Six Weeks Specialized Training Course for Library Professionals Commences at Pastic National Centre, Islamabad

PASTIC (Pakistan Scientific & Technological Information Centre) a subsidiary of Pakistan Science Foundation under the umbrella of Ministry of Science & Technology is a specialized premier national organization in the field of S&T Information management and dissemination. PASTIC caters to the S&T information needs of researchers from universities, R & D organizations and the industry. Six weeks "Short term & Attachment training courses for (LIS) Professionals" begins at PASTIC National Centre, QAU Campus, Islamabad on 2nd May, 2018 under its project entitled "Modernization of PASTIC National Science Reference Library for Effective Resource Sharing among S&T libraries in Pakistan".

Director National Library of Pakistan, Syed Ghayour Hussain was the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony. While addressing the audience, he emphasized the critical role of capacity building towards nation’s ability for effective and productive utilization of resources. He appreciated pivotal role of PASTIC towards capacity building of LIS professionals in Pakistan.

Director General PASTIC, Prof Dr Muhmmad Akram Shaikh in his welcome address highlighted PASTIC’s S&T information services across the country since its inception more than 50 years ago. He further added that keeping in view of Sustainable Development Goals and Pakistan Vision 2025, PASTIC is playing its effective role towards national and global development through capacity building of librarians, researchers and scientists by its various training programs.

Syed Habib Akhter Jafferi, Principal Librarian (PASTIC) and chief organizer of the workshop, presented brief overview of project, while explaining the objectives of the workshop said that this training will improve the soft and technical skills of LIS professionals for transforming into innovative future leader. Contents of this training program are specialized covering different areas related to information management, literature search, library digitization & automation etc.

25 Library professionals across Pakistan including AJK, Balochistan, Federal, KPK, Punjab and Sindh will benefit from this training workshop.
