PASTIC Organizes Seminar "To Promote Industry academia Collaboration For knowledge and Economic Development"

PASTIC Sub Center, Karachi in collaboration with The Sukkur Chamber of Commerce and Industry & Institute of Business Administration Sukkur organized a one day seminar to promote Industry Academia Collaboration for knowledge and Economic Development under its University-Industry Partnership (UIP) Program on May 6, 2017 at Sukkur -IBA.

Mr Manzoor Hussain Wassan, Minsiter of Industries government of Sindh was the chief Guest on the occasion along with Prof. Nisar Ahmed Siddiqui, Director IBA and Prof. Dr, Muhammad Ashraf, Chairman Pakistan Science Foundation as Guest of Honor. In his welcome speech, Prof. Nisar Ahmed Siddiqui highlighted the challenges faced by the academia and industry in building collaboration. He said that curriculum adapted by academic institutions and skills needed by industry have a gap which must be filled. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akram Shaikh, Director General PASTIC said that universities are the hub of knowledge and play important role in the social and economic development of nations. He also highlighted various initiatives taken by PSF (Pakistan Science Foundation) to promote the science education in Pakistan.

Prof. Dr. M. Ashraf, Chairman PSF mentioned several examples where industry extended deep cooperation with academic institutions like IBA Karachi, LUMS Lahore, and Textile University Faisalabad, etc. in the shape of mutual research projects, donations, provision of funding to raise facilities and award of scholarships. He said that economic development without development in science and technology is incomplete. Mr. Muhammad Iqbal Arain, President SCCI said that education without industry and industry with academia are blind, both are entirely interdependent.

The chief guest Mr. Manzoor Ahmed Wassan appreciated the efforts made by PASTIC, PSF, SCCI and Sukkur -IBA for organizing this event and engaging important stakeholders i.e. industry and academia. He said that industry and academia must collaborate and Sindh Government is always available for any support.

A large number of faculty members, industrialists and members of SCCI were present in the seminar. More than 250 participants attended the seminar. Six speakers from academia and industry gave presentations during the 2nd session. Shields and certificates were presented to the speakers and participants at the end of the seminar.
