The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB), Pakistan in collaboration with Camel Association of Pakistan (CAP) has decided to hold an International Camel Conference (ICC) at its Baghdad-ul-Jadeed Campus. This ICC event is scheduled on Dec 19-21, 2013 with a theme of “Camels are Created for Deserts.” Apart from the scientific/technical sessions, camel activities like camel show, beauty competition, racing, ridding and show of camel acrobats will also be hosted. The Islamia University of Bahawalpur is located at the brink of the Cholistan desert that spreads over 28000 km2 on three Districts of the Punjab province. It is thriving with biodiverse flora and fauna and is considered as a future food basket. The best camels of the country are being reared in this desert which are embodied in the socio-cultural system of Rohi dwellers (ROHAILAYS). To feel this taste and to expose the international community with the Cholistan desert and its enrichment you must recommend scientists from related area to attend/participate this exciting event.

On behalf of the organizers (IUB and CAP), I take pride in inviting the local and international camel scientists, delegates, camel lovers and other people to participate in this International event in the midst of the Cholistan desert. This will be a unique opportunity for all to see the best camels of the world in their habitat, interact with Rohi herders, exchange views and ideas with scientists working in different disciplines of camel management, breeding, reproduction, feeding, health cover, its socioeconomic importance in desert environments, welfare of camels and the herders and its ultimate conservation in arid and desert areas.
