Islamabad, December 17, 2025 — The Pakistan Scientific and Technological Information Center (PASTIC) successfully concluded a two-day training workshop on LaTeX, held from December 16–17, 2025, at the PASTIC National Center, Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) Campus, Islamabad.
The workshop witnessed the participation of over 25 researchers and students from leading academic and research institutions, including Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU), International Islamic University (IIU), Fatima Jinnah Women University, Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), and other organizations. Participants actively took part in the training, reflecting strong interest in capacity-building initiatives related to research documentation and scholarly publishing.
The first day of the workshop focused on developing a practical understanding of LaTeX for academic writing. Key topics included creating research papers, structuring documents using sections, applying formatting styles, and designing tables. Participants engaged in hands-on exercises aimed at building a strong foundation for producing professional-quality academic documents.
On the second day, participants explored advanced LaTeX features, including handling figures and mathematical equations, managing references and bibliographies, and working with major international journal templates. These practical sessions enabled participants to gain confidence in preparing publication-ready research articles, theses, reports, and presentations.
The training was designed to equip researchers, students, and professionals with essential skills in scientific writing and technical documentation using LaTeX, a powerful open-source typesetting system widely used in academia and research worldwide. The workshop also provided participants with the opportunity to explore PASTIC’s specialized facilities and services, which support the scientific community by enhancing access to information, strengthening research capabilities, and promoting open knowledge sharing.
The workshop concluded with a closing ceremony, during which certificates were awarded to the participants and the resource person in recognition of their active participation and commitment throughout the training.
PASTIC extends special thanks to Dr. Muhammad Usman, Data Science Specialist at PASTIC, Islamabad, for delivering the lectures and sharing valuable expertise during the two-day training workshop titled “Learn How to Write Research Papers/Thesis Using LaTeX.”
This initiative underscores PASTIC’s continued commitment to strengthening research capacity in Pakistan and promoting the adoption of open-source tools for scholarly communication. By organizing such training programs, PASTIC continues to play a pivotal role in empowering researchers and fostering a culture of technical excellence and self-reliance in scientific documentation.
PASTIC expresses its gratitude to all participants for their enthusiasm and engagement and looks forward to organizing more capacity-building workshops in the future.
