The 10th Invention to Innovation Summit – 2025 was inaugurated at Punjab University, organized by the PU Office of Research Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC), with the collaboration of PASTIC, Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF), and other key partners.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali, Vice Chancellor Punjab University, emphasized the need to promote a culture of innovation and invention to strengthen the country’s economy. He stressed that universities must focus on producing skilled graduates rather than just awarding degrees.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akram Shaikh, Director General PASTIC and Member Science, Pakistan Science Foundation, addressed the participants and highlighted the importance of connecting academia, industry, researchers, technologists, and policymakers on one platform. He said that the Invention to Innovation Summit, launched in 2011, has now become a leading national brand, fostering research commercialization and innovation.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akram Shaikh urged for greater investment in research and development to improve Pakistan’s position on the Global Innovation Index. He encouraged students and researchers to take full advantage of this platform to engage with emerging technologies.

PU Pro-VC Prof. Dr. Khalid Mahmood stated that while the number of PhD scholars is increasing in Pakistan, innovation levels still need significant improvement. He shared that the summit this year witnessed growth in research papers, technology stalls, and participation, reflecting positive progress. He also congratulated PU for winning four awards at the PINTEC Expo 2025.

Prof. Dr. Abid H.K. Sherwani, Chief Advisor UMT, pointed out that although universities worldwide contribute 60% to innovation, in Pakistan, this figure remains at only 5%. He stressed the urgent need to leverage Pakistan’s agricultural and mineral resources through local technology development.

Director ORIC Dr. Aqil Inam expressed gratitude to PASTIC, HEC, PHEC, PSF, UMT, IRP, and PASTIC for their cooperation in organizing the summit. He shared that 85 companies displayed modern technologies, and more than 90 oral presentations and papers will be presented during the two-day event, covering fields such as food technology, vaccine production, mineral extraction, recycling, and plastic products.

The summit provides a vital platform for promoting socio-economic development through innovation, research, and collaboration.
