Pakistan Scientific and Technological Information Centre (PASTIC) is a premier organization in the country for Collection and Dissemination of Scientific & Technological Information for catering to the information needs of scientists, researchers, academicians, industrialists, entrepreneurs, planners, policy makers, etc.
PASTIC National Centre organized one day training workshop on “Data Literacy & Journalism: Step towards Interpreting & Drafting Data Driven Stories” in collaboration with Technology Times on 17th November, 2021 at PASTIC National Centre, Islamabad. Director General, PASTIC Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akram Shaikh gave brief introduction of PASTIC services and described the aim to organize the said training workshop.
Mr. Umer Cheema renowned investigative journalist participated as Guest of Honor at inaugural session and delivered his opening talk to the training participants. Twenty Five (25) media personnel attended the training workshop from Islamabad and vicinity. Topics covered during training workshop were data literacy & evaluation, interpreting data through analytic toolkit and drafting data-driven stories.
At the end of the training workshop, participants were equipped to have basic knowledge regarding significance of data and its importance for the public at large, to identify how to search, analyze and interpret data professionally & how to equip with tools for visualizing data, and to identify open data resources which can further be evaluated to use it?
Chairman NADRA, Pakistan, Mr. Muhammad Tariq Malik attended the closing session as Chief Guest and delivered his closing speech. He also appreciated PASTIC’s role for support and promotion of research through its various activities. At the end of the closing ceremony, Mr. Muhammad Tariq Malik, Chairman NADRA along with Director General PASTIC Prof. Dr. Muhmmad Akram Shaikh distributed the training certificates amongst the participants.
