What is Plagiarism & How to Avoid Plagiarism in Scientific Research

The activity was organized by PASTIC Sub Centre Peshawar for M.Sc. Forestry final year students of Pakistan Forest Institute Peshawar on September 13, 2017 at Pakistan Forest Institute Peshawar.
Plagiarism is considered as a serious crime in academic communication landscape. Direct or indirect occurrences of plagiarism in scholarly literature can lead to the end of academic career. Objective: The seminar was designed to enhance academic communication skills, give awareness about plagiarism and share strategies to deal with plagiarism risk.
Resource Person: Ghazala Ali Khan, Deputy Director, PASTIC Sub Centre Peshawar, was resource person of the seminar. She delivered two detail presentations during the session. First Presentation was about PASTIC S&T services: In this presentation she guides the students that how they can get research data from PASTIC regarding their research topic of their M.SC degree? How they can use PASTIC website to search journals of their choice through Pakistani Libraries by using PASTIC online Union Catalogue? And how they can retrieve scientific work of Pakistani Scientists by using online Pakistan Science Abstracts database from PASTIC website. Second Presentation was focused on the title of Seminar i.e. what is Plagiarism & How to Ovid Plagiarism in Scientific Research. In this presentation, the speaker discusses the following points in detail;
  • What is Plagiarism?
  • Role of Internet Plagiarism
  • Responsibility of Researcher
  • Copyright
  • Fair use of Copyright
  • Legal Implication regarding plagiarism
  • Types of Plagiarism
  • How to avoid plagiarism?
At the end of presentation, the speakers involved the participants through hands on training by giving them test to remove plagiarism from given paragraph. All the 35 students remained fully involved and enjoyed the session. PASTIC services stall was also organized & 35 students filled bibliographic request form.
