A one-day National workshop on Sustainability in Process Industries (SPI 2014), was held nd on 22 May 2014, at UET Peshawar. The workshop was organized in collaboration with C h emi c a l E n g i n e e r i n g Department, UET Peshawar & National Academy of Young Scientists (NAYS). Director General PASTIC Dr. Akram Shaikh and Vice Chancellor, UET Engr. Imtiaz Hussain Gillani were the guests of honor. Proceedings of the inaugural session started with recitation of the Holy Quran. Addressing on the occasion, Dr. Saeed Gul Head of Chemical Engineering De p a r tme n t / S e c r e t a r y Workshop welcomed the Director General PASTIC and worthy guests. He elaborated the aims and objectives of the Seminar, and thanked PASTIC /PSF & NAYS for organizing the workshop at UET Peshawar. Dr. Akram Sheikh, Director General, PASTIC, explained the role of PASTIC /PSF and emphasized the participants to take guidance f rom the PASTIC/PSF authorities during their research. He added that quality of research needs to be at par with the international standards and it can only be p o s s i b l e i f r e s e a r c h e r s concentrate on the problem solving approach. Engr. Imtiaz Hussain Gillani, Vi c e - C h a n c e l l o r , UE T Peshawar welcomed the Dr. Akram Sheikh, Di rector General, PASTIC and worthy guests. He appreciated the efforts of PASTIC/NAYS and advised the young engineers & facul ty member s to get maximum benefit from the workshop and also from PASTIC/PSF services. Prof. Dr. Arshad Hussain (HOD, SCMENUST Islamabad) delivered plenary lecture and elaborately talked on “Application of Membrane Technology for CO 2 Capture from Natural Gas.”

Technical session I was divided into three groups, first group focused on Bioprocesses which was chaired by Dr. Arshad Hussain and Co-Chaired by Dr. Jami l Ahmad. Prof . Dr. SulemanTahir UOG, Gujrat delivered key note speech on “Bio-Refinery: An Integrated and Sustainable Alternative to Fos s i l Fuel ,” whi le s ix e n g i n e e r s f r om NUST Islamabad, Faisalabad, and UET, Peshawar presented their work.
