Objectives of the workshops
- The main objective of the workshop was to provide a forum for scientists and media practitioners so that they can discuss and come up with suitable ways and means to popularize science through mass media.
- Another objective was to strengthen and promote the role of scientists and mass media and enhance their interaction for promotion of S&T in the country and promote skills and good practices in the communication of science in the country. The workshop was expected to do the much needed job of capacity building of both scientists and the media practitioners.
Focus of the Workshops
The workshop mainly focused on the fact that improved collaboration between scientists and media people will not only help in making science understandable for masses but would also result in improved utilization of the research results through commercialization of science and technology in the country.

The theme of the first workshop was “Science in Mass Media: Genetics and Allied Sciences” organized in collaboration with the Department of Genetics, University of Karachi in 7-9 June, 2005 at Karachi. 42 participants from different S&T organizations and Print and Electronic Media participated in the workshop participants participated in the workshop.
The second workshop was on “Science in Mass Media” organized in collaboration with Department of Mass Communication, Allama Iqbal Open University, from 24-26 January, 2006, at Islamabad. . 31 participants from 19 different S&T Organizations and Print & Electronic Media participated in the workshop. Proceedings of this workshop has been published.
The third workshop was on “Projection of Scientific Knowledge in Mass Media of Pakistan” from 8-10 June, 2006 at Lahore. 34 participants from 20 different S&T organizations and Print and Electronic Media participated in the workshop.
The most important aspect of this workshop was that it was attended by literary personalities from the media like Amjad Islam Amjad, Asghar Nadeem Sayed, Muneeza Hashmi, Tajdar Alam, Dr. Amjad Pervez and Mr. Mazhar Qyum, The Nation, as well as eminent personalities from the scientific community such as Dr. Anwar Nasim, Dr Ghulam Murtaza, Dr. Naveed A. Malik, Dr. A. R. Shakoori, etc. Their presence made the whole workshop environment very literary and interesting.
The fourth workshop was on “Media & Science Awareness in the Knowledge Society” from September 5 - 6, 2006, Pakistan Forest Institute, Peshawar. 42 participants from 22 different S&T organizations and Print and Electronic Media participated in the workshop. Proceedings of this workshop has been published.
The fifth workshop “Science Awareness through Mass Media” was organized in collaboration with Balochistan University of Information Technology and Management Sciences, Quetta from 1-2 June, 2007 at Quetta. 41 participants from different S&T organizations and Print and Electronic Media participated in the workshop.
