An abstracting and indexing service is a service that provides summary of documents and assign keywords to documents for search and retrieval. There are several abstracting and indexing services available today e.g., Science Direct, SCOPUS, PubMed etc

Type of Indexes

Indexing databases are categorized based on the resource type:

  1. Region-Based: PSA by PASTIC, etc.
  2. Subject-Based: e.g., ZMath, PakMedinet, etc.
  3. Publisher-Based: e.g., Scopus by Elsevier, etc.

About PASTIC Abstracting and Indexing Service (AIS)

The Abstracting and Indexing Service (AIS) of PASTIC was initiated in 1960 with the publication of "Pakistan Science Abstracts" (PSA). This secondary information source supports research and development activities in Pakistan.

The online version is now available as a searchable database at:
"Pakistan Science Abstracts" (PSA).

PASTIC AIS is the only indexing service in Pakistan dedicated to Science & Technology.

Objectives

  1. To increase accessibility, readership, and citation of Pakistani journals.
  2. To enhance the reputation of Pakistani journals.
