Seminar on the "Future of Robotics in
Medical Sciences”
The seminar on the "Future of Robotics in Medical
Sciences" organized by PASTIC Karachi Sub Centre in
collaboration with the ORIC (Office of Research,
Innovation, and Commercialization) and the Faculty of
Pharmacy, Hamdard University was held on September
20th, 2023, at the Bait-ul-Hikmah Auditorium, Hamdard
University, Karachi. The seminar was intended to en-
lighten and educate participants about the realm of
robotics, as well as the resources and assistance provided
by PASTIC and the Pakistan Science Foundation, for
fostering scientific pursuits within the region.

The event was participated by diverse assembly of
participants from Hamdard University, with a total of over
100 researchers, including faculty members, PhD stu-
dents, directors, and heads of departments, underscoring
the significance of the event and the interest it garnered
within the university community.
The seminar commenced with a recitation of The Holy
Quran. Following this, Ms. Ayman Taj, the Assistant
Director of ORIC at Hamdard University, inaugurated the
session. In her opening address, she introduced PASTIC
and provided an overview of the profiles of the upcoming
speakers.
Ms. Afsheen Tariq, the Assistant Director (STI) at
PASTIC, Karachi, introduced various PASTIC services
and highlighted its pivotal role in capacity building. She
also offered insights into the newly developed databases
and portals by PASTIC, emphasizing their
importance in the context of scientific

shed some light on the supportive role played by the
Pakistan Science Foundation in advancing scientific
research efforts.
Eng. Dr. Sidra Abid, the Chairperson of the Biomedical
Engineering department at Sir Syed University, delivered
a comprehensive presentation on the future of robotics in
the domain of medical sciences. She emphasized how
robotics is revolutionizing healthcare by enhancing the
precision, efficiency, and capabilities of various medical
procedures and processes.
Dr. Muhammad Faris, an Assistant Professor from the
Faculty of Engineering Science and Technology (FEST) at
Hamdard University, also took the stage to present on the
integration of robotics in healthcare. He expounded on
how the incorporation of robotics into medical fields
constitutes a dynamic and promising area, promising to
improve healthcare outcomes and patient care.
The session included an engaging question and answer
segment between the speakers and participants, fostering
meaningful discussions.

At the closing session, various acknowledgments and
expressions of appreciation were extended. Prof. Dr.
Shamim Akhtar, the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy at
Hamdard University, extended her gratitude and offered a
vote of thanks, acknowledging the invaluable contribu-
tions of the speakers and their dedicated efforts toward the
advancement of the scientific community. To commemo-
rate the event, certificates, shields, and souvenirs were
presented to the organizers and speakers as tokens of
appreciation.
02-Days Training Workshop on
“Data Arranging and Analysis by Using SPSS'’
PASTIC Sub Centre Peshawar organized a two days
Hands-on training workshop on “Data Arranging and
Analysis by Using SPSS'' on September 25-26, 2023 at
Pakistan Forest Institute Peshawar for young foresters
(M.Sc. & BS students). Dr. Nowsherwan Zarif, Assistant
Professor, PFI Peshawar welcomed the participants,
guests, and resource person. The formal training was
started with the recitation of The Holy Quran. Dr. Sadaf
Manzoor, Associate Professor, Department of Statistics,
Islamia College Peshawar provided her services as a
resource person. She conducted four sessions and
engaged students practically by delivering hands-on
training to cover all contents of the subject training.

Additional Director PASTIC took two short sessions and
explained PASTIC & PSF services/activities for young
scholars and scientists throughout the country. Dr. Safdar
Ali Shah Additional Director General (Education) along
with Mr. Ghayyas Ahmad Raja Director, Forest
Education Division, PFI, Dr. Sajjad Saeed & Dr. Zahid
Rauf graced the closing ceremony as Chief Guest. Dr.
Safdar Ali Shah addressed the participants & appreciated
the PASTIC support for arranging training and seminars
for their students and wished to continue such types of
sessions in the future. In closing session resource person
and participants got shield & certificates at the end. The
said training was attended by 41 participants.

PASTIC Services S & T Awareness Stall
a. PASTIC Karachi arranged a PASTIC Awareness S&T
Services stall at Hamdard University in Karachi on
September 20, 2023. PSCK officials distributed
informative pamphlets to students and scholars. It's
noteworthy that over 100 faculty members and researchers
visited the PASTIC Service Stall, indicating a strong
interest in the services offered.
b. PSC Quetta arranged PASTIC Stall on September 14,
2023 at Sardar Bahadur Khan Women's University,
Chemistry Department, Quetta.

a. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akram Shaikh, Director General
PASTIC participated online at a high-end dialogue during
the event titled “Beijing Science Literacy Week 2023” on
September the 17th, 2023. The theme of the high-end
dialogue was “How can Science Museums play a part in
improving the quality of education for teens”. The
Director General; PASTIC has highlighted the role of
Science Museums in improving the digital education.
This International meeting was sponsored by Beijing
Association for Science and Technology (BAST). Beijing
International week for Science Literacy is an
International, professional and open brand activity for
science communication, science education and scientific
& technological exchanges, playing a positive role in
promoting mutual learning of experience in science
communication, sharing of science communication
resources, and science literary of the public, and
sustainable development of human society
b. PASTIC Karachi & Pakistan Science Foundation
conducted the written test for the International Junior
Science Olympiad (IJSO) 2023 for the Karachi region
students on September 22, 2023 at PASTIC Sub Centre
Karachi. Science Olympiads indeed play a crucial role in
identifying and nurturing young scientific talent.
