Seminar & Poster Presentation on “Health:

A Seminar and Poster Presentation on “Health: A
Multidisciplinary Perspective from Data to Diagnosis”
was organized on September 20, 2025 at the Pakistan
Institute of Rehabilitation and Medical Sciences
(PIRMS), Karachi by Pakistan Group of Colleges
(PGC), in collaboration with the PASTIC Sub-Centre
Karachi. The event brought together over 100 partici-
pants from various universities, researchers, and
students to discuss the evolving multidisciplinary
approaches in healthcare and diagnostics.

Ms. Afsheen Tariq, Assistant Director (STI), PASTIC
Sub-Centre Karachi, also briefed the participants
about PASTIC's services, including scientific
information resources, capacity-building programs,
and research facilitation initiatives. The event con-
cluded with a vote of thanks from Dr. Saba Memon,
who acknowledged the contribution and collaboration
of PASTIC Sub-Centre Karachi in making the event
successful.
Two-Days Hands-on Training Workshop on the
Role of Articial Intelligence (AI) in Research
and the Use of Modern Tools
The PASTIC Sub-Centre Peshawar, in collaboration with
the Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC), Islamia College
University Peshawar, organized a two-days hands-on
training workshop on “The Role of Artificial Intelligence
(AI) in Research and the Use of Modern Tools” on Septem-
ber 24–25, 2025. Dr. Suleman Amin from Economics
Department, University of Peshawar was the Resource
Person. The event was attended by 50 academic profession-
als and research fellows from various universities and R&D
centers across KP.
Dr. Ghazala underscored PASTIC/PSF's pivotal role in
advancing research ecosystems and strengthening national
scientific capacity. Prof. Dr. Izhar acknowledged PASTIC's
Distinguished guest speakers included Prof. Dr.
Shahana Urooj Kazmi (President, Pakistan Society for
Microbiology), Dr. Mohammad Zeeshan, Prof. Dr.
Muhammad Sohail, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akram
Khatri and Dr. Nain Taara Bukhari, who delivered
insightful presentations highlighting the importance of
data-driven approaches in diagnosis and public health.
The seminar was graced by Prof. Dr. Farhan Essa,
(CEO, Dr. Essa Laboratory & Diagnostic Centre) as
Chief Guest. A total of 29 scientific posters were
displayed during the event, showcasing innovative
ideas and research work of students. The posters were
evaluated by an expert panel of judges, and prizes were
awarded to the winners.

ongoing efforts and expressed strong interest in exploring
future avenues of collaboration.
The workshop concluded with a formal closing ceremony
led by Vice Chancellor, Islamia College, Prof. Dr. Ahmad-
ur-Rehman Saljoqi Ahmad, who distributed certificates and
underscored the importance of integrating AI into Paki-
stan's research ecosystem to align with global academic and
technological standards.

23, 2025. A total of 223 participants attended the event,
representing both the university and affiliated external
organizations. The second webinar was organized in
collaboration with Riphah International University on
September 30, 2025 at Riphah International University
Faisalabad. The event drew 186 participants from the
university and surrounding organizations.
Muhammad Hasnain, Additional Director Sub-Centre
Faisalabad introduced PASTIC's services briefly, highlight-
ing its role in promoting scientific knowledge, research
support, and access to digital resources. Dr. Maryam Ibrar
(Additional Director, STI) as a resource person, delivered
insights on effective literature searching and scholarly
resource management using Mendeley tool.
PASTIC–ISTIC Hybrid Meeting held on
September 25, 2025
A hybrid meeting between PASTIC, Islamabad and the
International Science and Technology Information Centre
(ISTIC), China was held on September 25, 2025, from 1:30
PM to 4:00 PM. Senior officials from both organizations
participated in the meeting. The ISTIC delegation com-
prised Prof. Wei Zhao, Prof. Xue Lei, Xing Wang, Rui
Wang, and Zhaoyang Wang. PASTIC representatives were
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akram Shaikh (Director General,
PASTIC) along with Mr. Saifullah Azim, Dr. Syed Aftab
Hussain Shah, Dr. Maryam Ibrar, Dr. Muhammad Usman,
and Mr. Nabi Bux. The meeting centered on identifying
potential areas for collaborative ISTIC–PASTIC initiatives.

PASTIC–ISTIC Hybrid Meeting held on September 25, 2025
Abstract Book of the First International
Conference on “Recent Advances in Green
Biotechnology and Climate Resilience
(RAGBCR-2025)” October 15-16, 2025
The Department of Biotechnology and Environmental
Sciences at Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University (SBBU),
Dir, in collaboration with PASTIC, PSF, and HEC will host
the two-days First International Conference on Recent
Advances in Green Biotechnology and Climate Resilience
(RAGBCR-2025) on October 15–16, 2025. PASTIC
collaborated in the event by printing and publishing abstract
books of the said conference.
Mr. Saifullah Azim, Principal System Analyst PASTIC
participated as a panelist in a Virtual Panel Discussion on
the topic of “Connecting Pakistan's Research with Global
PID Infrastructure” held on September 30, 2025 jointly
organized by ILMA University, PASTIC, DataCite and
XploreOpen. The session was focused on strengthening
Pakistan's research connectivity with the global Persistent
Identifier (PID) framework to enhance research visibility,
interoperability, and accessibility. The event was moder-
ated by Amber Osman (XploreOpen), with panelists: Mr.
Mohamad Mostafa (DataCite, Germany), Mr. Saifullah
Azim (PASTIC), and Prof. Dr. M.I. Subhani (ILMA
University, Pakistan) contributing valuable insights on
leveraging PID infrastructure for advancing open research
in Pakistan.

PASTIC Sub-Centre Karachi organized a PASTIC S&T
Services Awareness Stall on September 24, 2025 at the
Department of Biochemistry, University of Karachi.
PASTIC Karachi team actively interacted with the students
and faculty members, distributing informative materials
and addressing queries related to PASTIC's databases and
scientific services. More than 100 visitors attended the stall
and appreciated PASTIC's efforts in promoting research
culture and facilitating knowledge dissemination across
academic institutions.

a. Dr. Ghazala Ali Khan Additional Director, PASTIC
participated as Guest of Honor at a one-day seminar on
“Drug Awareness & Prevention Campaign among Female
Students” organized by The Agriculture University
Peshawar. The seminar aimed to highlight the growing
global and national concern of drug abuse, explore its
underlying causes, and examine its serious impact on the
lives of young women.
b. Principal, School of Health Sciences Peshawar, Dr.
Malik Rizwan, visited the PASTIC Regional Office
Peshawar on September 11, 2025 and also held discussions
with the Sub-Centre Incharge to explore prospects for
future collaboration.
c. Syed Shabib Zaidi, Science Assistant, PASTIC Sub-

Centre Karachi, visited “The 22 3P Pakistan Exhibition”
on September 12, 2025 at Expo Centre, Karachi organized
by FAKT Exhibitions (Pvt.) Ltd. During his visit, he
actively engaged with exhibitors, briefed them about
PASTIC services, and collected relevant industry data.
d. Ms. Afsheen Tariq, Assistant Director (STI), PASTIC
Sub-Centre Karachi, attended a webinar on “Enabling a
Perfect Research Ecosystem with Elsevier's Science Direct
& SD-AI” held via Zoom on September 16, 2025. The
session was hosted by Elsevier, in collaboration with the
Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan.

Centre Karachi visited the 14 Edition of the IEEEP Fair
2025 on September 18, 2025 at Expo Centre, Karachi
organized by the IEEEP Karachi Chapter in collaboration
with Badar Expo Solutions to showcase the latest innova-
tions in electrical, electronics, and allied engineering
sectors.

Karachi, attended a webinar on “Avoiding Common Pitfalls
in Social Science Manuscripts: What Editors Often Reject

was hosted by Elsevier, in collaboration with the HEC,
Pakistan.

h. Ms. Afsheen Tariq, Assistant Director (STI) at Sub-
Centre Karachi, attended the “Training of Women Science
& Engineering Graduates on Cleaner Production &
Circularity” on September 24, 2025 at the Department of
Chemical Engineering, University of Karachi. The training
was organized under the project titled “Pakistan Leather
Sector: Traceability, Cleaner Production and Circularity.”
i. Mr. Syed Shabib Zaidi, Science Assistant at PASTIC Sub-
Centre Karachi, attended a seminar on “Environmental
Reservation & Poster Competition” on September 24, 2025
at the Department of Biochemistry, University of Karachi.
The event aimed to raise awareness about environmental
conservation and sustainability practices among students
and researchers. He shared information about PASTIC's
S&T services, and explored opportunities for future
collaboration while interacting with the faculty and
researchers.

this event for enhancing visibility among industry leaders,
entrepreneurs, and technology innovators.

Karachi, attended a workshop on “RO Water, Mineraliza-
tion and Public Health: Awareness and Suppliers' Responsi-

event was organized by the SEGMITE, PSF and FUUAST,
Karachi.
l. Dr. Sadaf Manzoor, Chairperson along with Prof. Dr.
Sajjad Ahmad, from Department of Statistics, Islamia
College Peshawar visited Sub Centre Peshawar on Septem-
ber 29, 2025 and discussed with Dr. Ghazala Ali Khan
about avenues for future collaboration.
