The PASTIC National Centre, Islamabad, in association
with the PASTIC Sub Centre Karachi, organized a highly
beneficial one-day training workshop on "Open Journal
Management System (OJS)," on March 7, 2024, at the
Latif Ebrahim Jamal National Science Information Center
(LEJNSIC), ICCBS, University of Karachi. The workshop
aimed to empower the journal publishers' community with
modern journal publishing tools and techniques with OJS.

One-day training workshop on “Open Journal
Management System (OJS)”
Mr. Saifullah Azim, the Project Manager giving introduction
about Project Plans.
From the Sindh region, with over 75 (seventy-five) active
consortium members who serve as journal editors partici-
pated. Additionally, the session saw with more than twenty
participants joined via Zoom meeting. Activity was
performed under development project titled “National
Digital Archive of Research Published in Pakistani
journals”. Through this project, PASTIC is aimed to
develop networking of journals publishers, preservation of
national research content, standardization of journals
repository and development of visualization model to
review research trends by providing free journal hosting,
data import and backup services, financial assistance for
digitization and capacity building.
The training session began with a recitation of The Holy
Quran. Ms. Afsheen Tariq, Assistant Director (STI)
PASTIC Karachi, extended a warm welcome to Project
Director, Resource person & all participants. In her
welcome address, she provided an insightful overview of
the services offered by PASTIC, emphasizing
its commitment to supporting researchers
and academics in Pakistan and also highlighted the
significance of the workshop.
Mr. Saifullah Azim, the Project Manager at PASTIC
Islamabad, introduced the project titled "National Digital
Archive of Research Published in Pakistani Journals”
emphasizing its pivotal objectives, notable achievements,
and ongoing strategic plans. During his presentation, he
underscored the project's profound significance for the
research community in Pakistan. Additionally, He elabo-
rated on the training component of the project, which
focuses on capacity building for journal publishers and the
scientific community, aiming to enhance skills in digital
content development and utilization.
Dr. Adnan Amin, resource person & faculty member at the
Centre for Excellence in Information Technology at the
Institute of Management Sciences in Peshawar, conducted
hands-on training on OJS.
He provided practical guidance on the application of OJS,
catering to the specific needs of editors. Throughout the

session, he actively engaged with participants, addressing
their queries and providing insightful solutions. This
training equipped participants with valuable knowledge
and skills to utilize OJS effectively for publishing needs.
During the closing session, Prof. Dr. M. Raza Shah (T.I),
Professor & Editor at ICCBS University of Karachi,
served as the Chief Guest. Prof. Dr. Raza acknowledged
the efforts of the Project Manager, and praised the
expertise of Dr. Adnan Amin.
The Chief Guest acknowledged the efforts of the organiz-
ers and the resource person by presenting them with
shields. Additionally, certificates were distributed among
participants.

Event/ Webinar /Meeting Attended
a. On March 1st, 2024, Ms. Afsheen Tariq A.D (STI) held a
meeting with Prof. Dr. Farzana Shaheen, the Director of
ICCBS. The purpose of the meeting was to organize an

The event attracted over 200 registrations and was
attended by 150 university librarians from 90 universities
& organizations spanning from Kashmir to Sindh.
Representatives from all major professional library
associations, college and school libraries as well as
researchers, educators, and students across the country
participated in this event.
The Convention was started by the Holy Quran and
welcome address by Ms. Saima Syed, Chief Librarian,
Bahria University, Islamabad. The distinguished chief
guest Mr. Saleem Uddin, Director of QA at Sindh HEC
highlighted importance of this convention. Vice Admiral
(R) Khawaja Ghazanfar Hussain HI (M), Director General
of Bahria University, Karachi Campus, added prestige to
the event.

Ms. Mahjabeen Ali, Additional Librarian, Sindh
Madressatul Islam University and founder and Director of
the Pakistan Federation Library Alumni, emphasized the
importance of collective effort in upgrading and ensuring
the smooth functioning of libraries to meet the demands of
the modern digital age in her closing remarks. Director
General of Bahria University, Karachi Campus appreci-
ated PASTIC, Bahria University Central Library and
PFLA for organizing such a successful and fruitful
convention for the library community.

First All Pakistan University Libraries Convention
held at Bahria University Karachi
The PASTIC Sub Centre Karachi, in collaboration with
Bahria University Central Library Karachi Campus and
the Pakistan Library Federation Association (PFLA),
organized the "First All Pakistan University Libraries
Convention” on April 22, 2024, at the Al-Beruni
Auditorium, Bahria University Karachi Campus
(BUKC). The convention focused on the theme "Univer-
sity Libraries: Highlighting Their Role in Research,
Education & Learning.”
Farooq, Dr. Yusuf, Mr. Nooruddin Merchant, Mr. Ashraf
Shareef, Mr. Rashid Rao, and Mr. Javed Iqbal, covered a
wide range of important topics themed around research,
education, artificial intelligence etc. Library representa-
tive from Mehran University delivered a presentation on
artificial intelligence (AI). He addressed the challenges
faced by libraries, discussed the effectiveness of AI in
supporting academic success, and highlighted its role in
enhancing user learning.

Karachi, delivered a presentation on PASTIC Services for
Libraries in Pakistan during the "First All Pakistan
University Libraries Convention” on April 22, 2024, at
Bahria University Karachi Campus (BUKC). She briefed
several key initiatives, of the National Consortium of
Science & Technologies and Research & Development of
Libraries including the PASTIC KOHA Cloud (An Online
Public Access Catalogs (OPACs) of various libraries), the
PakCat (Union Catalogue of Pakistani Libraries), and the
Digital Repository of Indigenous Literature
