Training Workshop on “PASTIC KOHA
Cloud” at Karakoram International
University Gilgit Baltistan
A training workshop on “PASTIC KOHA Cloud”
was held on September 10-11, 2020 at Karakoram
International University, Gilgit.
The main objective of the training workshop was the
capacity building of participants including Library
Professionals / Information managers and fresh
graduates in Library information science to work
independently in the new digital environment.
PASTIC newly customized Open Source Library
Software “PASTIC Koha Cloud” was introduced,
and hands on training was imparted to empower the
participants get full benefit of the software. The
Participants were from different universities,
colleges and libraries of Gilgit-Baltistan region.
At the closing ceremony Director General, PASTIC,
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akram Shaikh was the Chief
Guest, while Vice Chancellor, KIU, Gilgit Prof. Dr.
Attaullah Shah was the Guest of Honour. Syed Habib
Akhter Jaffri, Project Director and Resource Person
of the workshop highlighted the audience in the
closing ceremony about the salient features of the
connected platform (Koha Cloud) developed by
PASTIC. Through this medium, indigenous scientific
research data will be shared through networking,
resource sharing and capacity building of library &
information science professionals, for facilitation of
research scholars, to solve their problems.

PASTIC Sub-Centre Peshawar organized one-day
online workshop on “Make your Research Life
Easier with MENDELEY” on September 9, 2020.
Total 63 participants from all major universities &
S&T organization from KP, Punjab & Sindh
participated in said workshop. Dr. Maryum Ibrar
Shinwari, Sr. Scientific Information Officer, from
PASTIC National Centre Islamabad was the resource
person.

Online workshop on “Management by
using Mendeley - Reference Management
Software'' at Govt. College University
Faisalabad.
PASTIC Sub-Centre Faisalabad organized online
workshop on " Management by using Mendeley -
Reference Management Software'' on September 17,
2020 at Govt. College University Faisalabad
(GCUF). About 22 participants (Directors and other
R&D workers) from GCUF, GCWUF and Ghazi
University DG Khan had participated in the
workshop. The Session was started with the recitation
from the Holy Quran followed by welcome address
by Deputy Director PASTIC Sub-Centre Faisalabad
followed by remarks by Prof. Dr. Khalid Zia, Director
ORIC GCUF. The presentation/training on workshop
was delivered by Resource Person, Dr. Maryam Ibrar
Shinwari, Senior Scientific Information Officer,
PASTIC Islamabad. Concluding remarks were
delivered by Dr. Muhammad Ali Tarrar, Director
ORIC, Ghazi University D.G. Khan, and he
highlighted the importance of workshop for R&D
workers/Scientists. He also shed light on the role of
research and development in promotion of scientists.
He also appreciated PASTIC efforts to hold this
successful workshop.

Online workshop on “Writing a
Scientific Research Paper” at PASTIC
Sub-centre Karachi
PASTIC Sub-Centre Karachi organized an online
workshop on “Writing a Scientific Research Paper”
on September 15, 2020. Total 49 researchers of
different universities, and R&D Institutions from
Sindh, Punjab Balochistan and AJK have participated
in the workshop. The session was started with the
recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by
welcome address by Mr. Abdul Fatah Shaikh, Deputy
Director (STI), PASTIC Sub-Centre Karachi. Dr.
Syeda Sadaf Akbar, Resource Person of the
workshop gave a detailed presentation. At the end of
the session closing remarks were delivered by Prof.
Dr. Muhammad Akram Shaikh, Director General,
PASTIC National Centre, Islamabad.
PSDP Concept Clearance Meeting was held on
September 28, 2020 at MoST Committee Room.
Honorable Federal Minister for Science and
Technology, Chaudhry Fawad Hussain Presided over
the meeting.
Director General PASTIC, Prof. Dr. Muhammad
Akram Shaikh, participated in the meeting and
submitted the project Proposal titled "Pakistan
R e s e a r c h I n f o r m a t i o n P o r t a l " .
2. Online opening ceremony of the Training
Center on Scientific, Technological and Economic
Cooperation under Belt and Road Initiative (BRI)
Dr. Saima Tanveer, Additional Director (STI), on
behalf of Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akram Shaikh,
Director General PASTIC, attended the online
opening ceremony of the Training Center on
Scientific, Technological and Economic Cooperation
under Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), on September
25, 2020, jointly launched by Beijing Technology
and Business University (BTBU) and Economic
Cooperation Organization Science Foundation
(ECOSF). The Training Center has been established
under the funding of China Association of Science
and Technology (CAST), which

was won by the BTBU and ECOSF jointly, for human
and institutional capacity building in science,
engineering, technology, and business management,
along the belt and road countries. The Center would
serve as a strategic training platform, which is
deemed to be critical for infrastructure development
and socio-economic growth for B&R countries,
including Pakistan. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akram
Shaikh, Director General PASTIC has been
appointed as an Expert Committee Member of
BTBU-ECOSF Joint Training Center on Scientific,
Technological and Economic Cooperation under Belt
and Road initiative.

participated in one-Day Seminar on “Food Security”
on September 17, 2020, organized by Directorate of
