An online Work Meeting has been conducted by
PASTIC&PSF with Beijing Technology & Business
University (BTBU) and China Association for Science &
Technology (CAST), China on June 4, 2020.

The Meeting was attended byPSF/PASTIC officers headed
by Director General (DG)PASTIC, Prof. Dr. Muhammad
Akram Shaikh. Director International Liaison (IL) PSF,
Dr. Ahsan Feroz, Additional Director PASTIC, Dr.
SaimaTanveer, and Principal System Analyst PASTIC,
Mr. SaifullahAzim, were also present in the meeting.
Whereas from China the participants were Dr Di Yuna,
Executive Director, Associate Professor BTBU, Liu Ying
Director, International Office, BTBU, re-presentative of
CAST and Mr. Jia Wei, First Secretary Science &
Technology, Chinese Embassy Pakistan have attended the
meeting.

During the Meeting Dr. Di Yuna gave a detailed
presentation on the Project prepared by BTBU titled “2020
International Cooperative Platform” with sub titled
Bilateral S&T and Humanistic Exchange. The project will
be sponsored by International Affairs Department, Beijing
Academy of Science & Technology (BAST) and will be
undertaken by BTBU under the period January -
December 2020.The main objectives of the project
includes a) to implement substantive bilateral cooperation
in science communication, technology training program
or science information management. b) to do a survey on
China-Pakistan bilateral cooperation in S&T and c) to
promote people to people connection.

Director IL PSF, Dr. Ahsan Feroz welcomed the
collaborative project proposed by BTBU and agreed to
join hands with CAST/BAST and BTBU and nominated
Prof. Muhammad Akram Shaikh, DG PASTIC as the focal
person to liaise with BAST/BTBU in the project on PSF/
PASTIC behalf to organize all the collaborative activities
as proposed in the project by BTBU.

Dr. Feroz in his comments also highlighted that Artificial
Intelligence (AI) has already played a useful but

fragmented role in many aspects of the global fight against
the coronavirus.AI system can help to rapidly diagnose
COVID-19 patients. He further added that the use of AI in
agriculture helps the farmers and provides more efficient
ways to produce, harvest and sell essential crops.Pakistan is
striving to be at par with the world in terms of R&D in the
emerging technologies and their applications especially
AI.Pakistan immediately need to invest in these emerging
areas, but the financial constraint is creating gaps. However,
lack of resources should not impede us, if we are able to
efficiently synergize with our international partners and
friends in this regard.

While Prof. Akram Shaikh in his remarks also second the
comments of Dr. Feroz and emphasized that Pakistani
researchers and policymakers needs to learn from the
significant role of AI in healthcare and agriculture to
combat and mitigate the COVID-19 and the devastating
locust attack on crops.Further he added, our scientific
community also needs to learn and replicate the remarkable
successful example of the Chinese government to
effectively use Artificial Intelligence for transforming their
healthcare and agriculture sector.Dr. Shaikh also
highlighted the Capacity Building needs of Pakistani
researchers in the area of “S&T Data collection, analysis
and management”.

Seminar on “Intellectual Property Rights”

PASTIC Sub-Centre Faisalabadin collaboration with
Sargodha Chamber of Commerce & Industry
(SCCI)organized an online (zoom app) seminar on
“Intellectual Property Rights (IPs)” on June 5, 2020.
The seminar was participated by 24 participants
including President, Vice President and executive
members of SCCI. The Resource Person Mr. Zahoor
A h m e d , D i r e c t o r O R I C , U n i v e r s i t y o f
Peshawarhighlighted the importance and benefits of
various types of IPs and the essential requirements for
their protection.

Session was started with the recitation from the Holy
Quran, followed by welcome address by Mr. Faisal
Razzaq khawaja, Chairman R&D Cell SCCI. The
session wasended with closing remarks by Prof.
Muhammad Akram Shaikh, Director General

during COVID 19.Dr. Shaikh also commentented on
the role of national research and development in
exploring and testing new, viable and scientific
options for overcoming the pandemic at national
level, and appreciated the efforts ofSCCI andPASTIC
Sub-Centre, Faisalabad for holding a successful
seminar.

Management Software”on June 17, 2020.The

workshop was aparticipated by 34 senior level

researches including Directors and other R&D

workers from Sothern Punjab. Session was started

with the recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by

welcome addressby Mr. Muhammad Hasnain,

Deputy Director (STI), PASTIC Sub-Centre

Faisalabad. Mr. Nadeem Sohail, Resource Personof

the workshop gave a detailed presentation on the

topic. At the end of the session,closing remarks were

delivered by Dr. Abid Mehmood, Director General,

Ayub Agricultural Research Institute (AARI),
