Two Days Training Workshop on “KOHA:
Problem Based session for Practitioners
& Online Databases: Access & Usage”.
PASTIC Sub-Centre, Karachi in collaboration with Bait-
ul-Hikmah Library, Hamdard University, organized two
days training workshop on "KOHA: Problem-Based
session for Practitioners & Online Databases: Access &
Usage" from October 11 to 12, 2023, at The Faculty of
Health & Medical Sciences (FHMS), Hamdard Univer-
sity, Karachi. The workshop was participated by more than
75 participants from various universities of Pakistan.
The workshop commenced with the recitation of The Holy
Quran. Prof. Malahat Kaleem Sherwani, Director of Bait
al Hikmah Library at Hamdard University, delivered a
welcome address to the participants. In her address, she
emphasized the significance of KOHA software, the
importance of using digital databases, and introduced
PASTIC services to the participants of the
workshop. The Chief Guest, Registrar,
Hamdard University, appreciated for
Dr. Muhammad Wasim Zia, Senior Lecturer at the Depart-
ment of Library & Information Sciences, University of
Karachi and resource person of the workshop conducted
training on various aspects of KOHA, such as interface
navigation, cataloging, acquisitions, circulation, patron
management, OPAC searching, and retrieval etc. The
session was concluded by Prof. Dr. Raza Ur Rehman,
Faculty of Health & Medical Sciences, Hamdard Univer-
sity and presented shield to Resource Person.

Ms. Afsheen Tariq, Assistant Director (STI) at PASTIC
Karachi, introduced various PASTIC services and its role
in capacity building. She highlighted the importance of
PASTIC KOHA Cloud, PakCat, the digital repository of
indigenous S&T material, Union Online Public Access
Catalogue (Union OPAC), and newly developed databases
and portals for scientific research and innovation.
The second day featured training on online databases.
The Resource Person Mr. Attaullah, Chief Librarian at
Ziauddin University, covered databases like PubMed and

Awareness Seminar on Breast Cancer
Faculty of Pharmacy, Hamdard University, gave training
on EBSCOhost and Cochrane Library Application
databases. Ms. Fatima Iqbal, Assistant Librarian at Bait al
Hikmah, gave detailed presentation on HEC Digital
Library databases. This workshop provided valuable
insights and practical training in library and information
sciences, helping participants to enhance their skills and
knowledge in managing library resources and utilizing
online databases effectively.
Ms. Alia Nasir, Principal and Associate Professor at
Rufayda Hamdard College of Nursing, Hamdard
University, delivered closing remarks. She appreciated
the efforts of PASTIC for organizing such a successful
workshop and also thanked to resource persons for
delivering the valuable sessions for faculty members,

organized awareness seminar on Breast Cancer on
October 4th, 2023, at the Bait-ul-Hikmah Auditorium,
Hamdard University Karachi. Raising awareness about
breast cancer is crucial for early detection and prevention,
and such events play a vital role in educating the public on
this important health issue.
Dr. Anum, a renowned oncologist from Shoukat Khanum
Hospital, shared invaluable insights into the latest
advancements in breast cancer treatment, emphasizing
early detection and its crucial role in improving survival
rates. Speaker Dr. Tabiba Syma Ghayas, an esteemed
Professor in Eastern Medicine at Hamdard University,
shed light on complementary and alternative approaches

Conferences” on October 20, 2023 at Expo Centre
Karachi. She also attended the Seminars on Breast Cancer
& Boosting Medical Devices Development in Pakistan.
This event organized by the Ecommerce Gateway
Pakistan (Pvt.) Ltd. Farhan Anis, Vice President of
Ecommerce Gateway Pakistan, highlighted the critical
importance of the healthcare sector. Nearly 50 exhibitors
from 150 different companies participated in the three-day
trade fair including foreign delegates from six countries.
