Webinar on Data Analytics using SPSS
The Pakistan Scientific and Technological Information
Centre (PASTIC) conducted a hybrid webinar on “Data
Analytics using SPSS” on November 4, 2025. The
session provided an introductory overview of the
Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS),
focusing on how researchers can effectively analyze
and interpret their data using this powerful statistical
tool. Dr. Muhammad Usman, Database Administrator
was the resource person of this webinar.
The webinar was attended by over 90 participants
online and 10 members in person at the PASTIC IT
Training Lab. Participants represented a diverse range
of universities and organizations, across Pakistan.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Saifullah Azim, Principal
System Analyst at the PASTIC National Centre,
emphasized the value of such training initiatives,
noting that they help students and researchers enhance
their analytical skills and make well-informed,
data-driven decisions. PASTIC remains committed to
fostering a research culture that empowers scholars to
contribute effectively to national scientific and
technological progress.

One-day Training Workshop on E-Filing and
Office Automation
The Pakistan Scientific and Technological Information
Centre (PASTIC) organized a one-day in-house
training workshop on “E-Filing and Office
Automation” Islamabad, on November 7, 2025 at the
PASTIC National Centre, Islamabad. The workshop
aimed to enhance the digital competency of officers
and officials by promoting efficient and paperless
office practices in line with the Government of
Pakistan's vision for digital governance.
The session was conducted by Mr. Saifullah Azim,
Principal System Analyst, Mr. Tariq Mehmood, and
Mr. Muhammad Umer, who shared their expertise on
electronic file management, e-correspondence, and
office automation tools. Around 25–30 officers and
officials from PASTIC participated in the workshop.
The workshop provided participants with hands-on
training on the use of e-filing systems, digital corre-
spondence protocols, and automation software. It also
emphasized the importance of transparency, effi-

hands-on training workshop on “Data Analysis Using
SPSS”, on November 5, 2025 at PASTIC National
Centre, Islamabad. Dr. Muhammad Usman, Database

A total of 25 participants from various departments of
QAU and the International Islamic University (IIU)
attended the workshop. The training covered funda-
mental concepts of data analysis, including setting up
data files, managing different data types, performing
data cleaning operations such as transfor-
mations and missing value analysis, and
generating descriptive statistics.

other automation tools can streamline workflows,
reduce physical file movement, and improve coordina-
tion among departments.
The Pakistan Scientific and Technological Information
Centre (PASTIC), in collaboration with the Department of
Pharmacy, Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU), organized a
seminar on “Research for All – Empowering Undergradu-
ate Researchers” on November 13, 2025 at the Saulat
Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Drug Research's
Seminar Hall, QAU. Dr. Muhammad Usman, Database
Administrator was the resource person of this webinar.
The event aimed to encourage a research-oriented mindset
among undergraduate students and introduce them to
essential scientific tools and methodologies. More than 75
students and young researchers participated in the session,
where they received guidance on research practices, data
management, and analytical techniques.
The seminar concluded with an engaging discussion on the
importance of data-driven approaches in academic projects.
Participants commended PASTIC's efforts to foster a strong
research culture and empower emerging scientists through
targeted capacity-building initiatives.

Seminar on Research for All – Empowering
Undergraduate Researchers

Webinar on LaTeX for Scientic Writing
PASTIC National Center, Islamabad successfully con-
ducted a hybrid webinar titled “LaTeX for Scientific
Writing” on November 21, 2025. The session was attended
by 44 researchers, faculty members, and professionals from
various universities and organizations across the country.
Dr. Muhammad Usman, Database Administrator was the
resource person of this webinar.
The session offered an introductory yet comprehensive
overview of LaTeX, emphasizing its importance in prepar-
ing research papers, theses, and other academic documents
with accuracy, consistency, and professional formatting.
Participants joined both online and on-site at the PASTIC IT
Lab, where the interactive setting allowed for meaningful
discussion and hands-on learning.

The Pakistan Scientific and Technological Information
Centre (PASTIC) National Center at Quaid-i-Azam
University (QAU) Campus, Islamabad, conducted a hybrid
orientation webinar on “Data Analysis with SPSS” on
November 27, 2025. Dr. Muhammad Usman, Database
Administrator, was the resource person for this webinar.
The session was attended by approximately 50 participants
from various universities and organizations across the
country, including International Islamic University
Islamabad (IIUI), Islamia University of Bahawalpur,
Quaid-i-Azam University, University of Karachi, Sindh
Education Department, and others. The webinar provided
an essential introduction to the Statistical Package for the
Social Sciences (SPSS), equipping participants with
practical knowledge in basic data handling, descriptive
statistics, and fundamental analytical techniques.
Participants praised the interactive format of the webinar,
which allowed for real-time questions and discussions,
enhancing their learning experience. The webinar's success
underscores PASTIC's dedication to providing accessible
and valuable educational resources. By continually offering
such training programs, PASTIC plays a pivotal role in
nurturing the analytical skills necessary for research
excellence and scientific innovation in Pakistan.

A dynamic and multidimensional event was organized by
the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Sir Syed
University of Engineering & Technology (SSUET), in
collaboration with PASTIC Sub-Centre Karachi and other
partners, on November 6, 2025 integrating Breast Cancer
Awareness, World Food Day, and the Transformative
Power of Psychological Wellbeing. The objective of the
event was to raise awareness about cancer prevention,
highlight the importance of healthy dietary practices, and
emphasize mental resilience. More than 200 participants,
including students, faculty members, researchers, and
representatives from various industries, attended the
seminar.
The inaugural session was led by Ms. Afsheen Tariq,
Assistant Director (STI), PASTIC Sub-Centre Karachi,
who highlighted PASTIC's vital role in promoting scientific
awareness. Prof. Dr. Sidra Abid Syed, Chairperson of the
Biomedical Engineering Department at SSUET, empha-
sized the importance of integrating biomedical innovation,
nutrition, and mental wellness to foster comprehensive
health.
This training reflects PASTIC's continued commitment to
strengthening Pakistan's research ecosystem by offering
high-quality capacity-building opportunities.

University Faisalabad. 77 participants from university and
surrounding organizations attended this Session. The
session offered a live demonstration of Mendeley's full
functionality, helping participants understand how they can
save time and improve accuracy in writing and research
smartly using this intelligent tool.
Muhammad Hasnain (PASTIC), Additional Director (STI)
Sub Centre Faisalabad introduced PASTIC's services,
highlighting its role in scientific knowledge dissemination
and research support, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Shahid,
Director ORIC GCUF emphasized modern research
practices and emerging technologies.
During the 1–2 hour session, participants were introduced
to the basics of reference management and saw how
Mendeley can simplify academic and research work. The
session covered key features such as organizing research
papers, generating citations, creating bibliographies, and
integrating Mendeley with Microsoft Word. A live demon-
stration helped attendees understand how these tools work
in real time.
The session was well received by students, researchers, and
faculty members who are keen to improve their research
workflow. This webinar served as a helpful starting point
for anyone looking to manage references more efficiently
and write smarter with Mendeley. This webinar was
delivered by Dr. Maryam Ibrar, Additional Director (STI),
PASTIC.

A webinar on “Literature Searching and Management
Skills for Researchers” was held on November 25, 2025, at
Baba Guru Nanak University, Nankana Sahib, Punjab,
Pakistan. Organized by PASTIC-Faisalabad, PSF, and
ORIC, University of Layyah, it drew 50 participants from
the university and surrounding organizations. Muhammad
Hasnain, Additional Director of PASTIC, introduced
PASTIC's services, highlighting its role in promoting
scientific knowledge, research support, and access to digital
resources.
The session began with an introduction to the fundamentals
of literature review by Dr. Maryum Ibrar, Additional
Director of PASTIC. Participants were then briefed on
various literature search platforms, including freely
accessible resources and those subscribed through the
Higher Education Commission (HEC). AI-assisted
literature search tools—such as Research Rabbit, Semantic
Scholar, and SciSpace—were also introduced. The pro-
gram concluded with an in-depth demonstration of the
Mendeley Reference Manager, showcasing its library
management features, integrated PDF reader, web plugin,
and its capability to generate in-text citations and bibliogra-
phies in Microsoft Word.
Prof. Dr. Azhar Rasool, Director of ORIC BGNU, empha-
sized the importance of modern research practices in
diverse scientific disciplines. Participants expressed
appreciation for the comprehensive coverage of tools and
techniques, noting the immediate applicability of the skills
gained. This initiative reflects PASTIC's ongoing commit-
ment to empowering researchers by equipping them with
the necessary skills to navigate digital resources effectively.
The event highlighted the growing need for digital literacy
in academic research, drawing attention to the dynamic
landscape of scientific inquiry. Moving forward, similar
webinars are planned to continuously support the research
capabilities of scholars across the nation.

A glimpse of webinar on “Literature Searching and
Management Skills for Researchers”
The 3-days intensive training program titled IPR-TIIA-
2025, was organized by PASTIC Regional Office
Peshawar, on November 19–21, 2025, with the financial
support of the Directorate of Science & Technology
(DoST), Government of KP, and in collaboration with
ORIC–University of Peshawar at Department of History,
Sheikh Muhammad Taimur Academic Block II, University
of Peshawar.
Mr. Zahoor Ahmad, Director Quality Enhancement Cell,
University of Peshawar served as the resource person and
conducted all technical sessions over the 3 days, ensuring
an engaging and insightful learning experience for partici-
pants.
The core objective of this initiative was to disseminate
Intellectual Property (IP) knowledge and build capacity
among scientists and academic professionals, particularly
those representing the Newly Merged Districts (NMDs) of
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
This capacity-building program brought together 52
participants from S&T organizations, public and private
universities, and the Higher Education Department across
KP.

tion), Mr. Sajid Hussain Director, Directorate of Science &
Technology, DoST–KP Government, Prof. Dr.
M. Akram Sheikh Director General, PASTIC,
Prof. Dr. Johar Ali, Vice Chancellor, Univer-
sity of Peshawar, and Prof. Dr. Jehan Bakhat Vice Chancel-
lor, Agriculture University Peshawar graced the closing
session. All dignitaries acknowledged and appreciated the
efforts of PASTIC-Peshawar, DoST-KP Government, and
ORIC-UoP for successfully organizing this impactful
training program. Shields and certificates were distributed
among participants and the resource person at the conclu-
sion of the event.
