Three Days Training Workshop “SPSS” At

PASTIC National Centre, Qau Campus, Islamabad

PASTIC organized a three days extensive training
workshop on “Research Tools and Techniques (SPSS)”
held from December 10-12, 2024 for the research scholars
at PASTIC National Centre, Islamabad. Objective of this
workshop was to enhance the research capabilities of
research scholars and students. Dr. Maryam Ibrar was the
resource person of the said workshop. Twenty-four (24)
research scholars from Quaid-i-Azam School of Manage-
ment Sciences (QASMS), Quaid-i-Azam attended the
training workshop.

SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) is a
versatile and responsive program designed to undertake a
range of statistical procedures. SPSS software is widely
used in a wide range of disciplines i.e. commonly used in
marketing, education research, healthcare and medical
etc.

Principal System Analyst, Mr. Saifullah Azim attended
the closing session. He briefly introduced the different
PASTIC services and explained the objective to organize
such training workshops. At the end of the session,
Principal System Analyst, Mr. Saifullah Azim distributed
the training certificates amongst the participants.

One day Webinar on “Effective Research:

Literature Searching (Where and How)”

The Pakistan Scientific and Technological Information

Centre (PASTIC) National Centre, Islamabad,

in collaboration with the National Textile

University, Faisalabad, conducted a one-day

webinar titled “Effective Research: Literature Searching
(Where and How)” on November 13, 2024. The webinar
was organized for the research scholars of the National
Textile University, Faisalabad.

The seminar was conducted by Mr. Saifullah Azeem,
Principal System Analyst as a resource person, and
organized by Dr. Muhammad Usman, Assistant Professor
of Economics. The event received support from Dr.
Muhammad Hashim, Chairman of Business Administra-
tion, as well as Dr. Sajjad Ahmad Baig, Director of
Faisalabad Business School.

Participants received information on different databases,
search engines, and tools necessary for efficiently locating
pertinent research materials. The experts highlighted the
significance of creating strong research strategies to
improve the quality and influence of their academic work.

The webinar garnered exceptionally positive feedback
from attendees, who deemed the session highly beneficial
for their ongoing research projects. PASTIC National
Centre remains committed to supporting the academic
community through the organization of informative
sessions and the promotion of research excellence.

PASTIC Organizes Online Training Workshop on

Open Journal Systems (OJS)

PASTIC's IT section held a one-day online workshop on
Open Journal Systems (OJS) for the Lahore Journal of
Economics. The workshop aimed to improve the techni-
cal and editorial teams' skills in installing, configuring,
managing workflows, and publishing with OJS software.

The training session provided participants with insights
and practical knowledge to enhance their research and
publication processes. The workshop is part of PASTIC's
efforts to support and develop the capabilities of
researchers and editors in Pakistan.

Systems (OJS)

PASTIC and GCCP: Bridging Gaps and

Enhancing Pakistani Research Visibility

The Global Content Connect Project (GCCP) is imple-
mented by the Advance Educational Institute & Research
Center (AEIRC), based in Pakistan and the US, in
collaboration with Malir University (MU), Karachi, and
CrossRef. AEIRC collaborates with global partners to
improve public health in Pakistan through dedicated
research, education, and health initiatives. On December
17, 2024, a ZOOM meeting was convened between the
PASTIC and GCCP project teams. The primary objective
of the meeting was to explore potential collaborative
efforts aimed at enhancing research and development
initiatives in Pakistan.

During the meeting, both teams discussed strategies to
combine their resources and expertise to bridge the gap
between national research content and the global commu-
nity. The collaboration aims to enhance the online
visibility of scientific knowledge from Pakistan at an
international level. The PASTIC team included Mr.

team included Dr. Shamoon Noushad, General Secretary,
Advance Educational Institute & Research Center
(AEIRC), Neha Amber Sajid, Assistant Registrar, MU,
Ramsha Alam, Associate to Dean, MU, Amaila Fazal,
ORIC Officer, MU, and Yusra Saleem, Clinical Research
Officer, AEIRC.

The meeting began with a presentation by Dr. Shamoon
Noushad, who provided an overview of the Global
Content Connect Project. He discussed the project's
history, objectives, and identified gaps in Pakistani
content concerning online visibility. Dr. Noushad
highlighted the services offered by this project and
addressed the challenges encountered. Furthermore, he
underscored the significance of Digital Object Identifiers
(DOIs) and Open Researcher and Contributor IDs
(ORCIDs) in linking research content, explaining how
this integration would improve the visibility and accessi-
bility of Pakistani research.

Mr. Saifullah Azim provided an overview of the role of
PASTIC S&T information services for the scientific
community in Pakistan. He also presented the outline of
the National Digital Archive project, explaining its
capabilities and benefits for researchers and journal
editors. Dr. Syed Aftab Hussain Shah introduced the
database of R&D projects and the National Scientist
Directory, highlighting their importance for connecting
researchers and grants nationwide. Dr. Maryum Ibrar
delivered a summary of the PASTIC abstracting and
indexing database of Pakistan Science Abstracts (PSA),
demonstrating its features and usability for the scientific
community. Follow-up sessions will be held to solidify
the framework for this collaboration in the coming month.

attended the “36 PMA Biennial Medical Conference on
November 30, 2024 at the Movenpick Hotel, Karachi,
which was organized by the Pakistan Medical Association
(PMA).The significant event featured a comprehensive
agenda of presentation, panel discussion, and workshops,
focusing on innovations and medical science.

f· A successful two-day PASTIC Services Stall activity
was organized at the National Textile University,
Faisalabad on December 17-18, 2024 during the Book
Fair. The stall attracted a large number of visitors, includ-
ing Directors, Heads of Departments, PhD researchers,
and students from the university.

g· On December 19, 2024, an oath-taking ceremony was
held at the Main Library, National Textile University
Faisalabad. Muhammad Hasnain, Additional Director,
PASTIC Faisalabad, administered the oath to the newly
elected body of the Lyallpur Library Association (LLA).

Conferences held on December 5, 2024 at Expo Centre
Karachi. The event was organized by Prime Event Man-
agement, Karachi. During his visit, he gathered significant
industry data and explored the latest innovations and
advancements in the water and energy sectors.

More than 60 exhibitors from various cities and countries,
including China, Turkey, Morocco, Australia, Egypt, and
the USA, showcased their products and services at 175
stalls, highlighting a range of cutting-edge technologies
and solutions in the water and energy domains.

k. Mr. Shabib Zaidi, Science Assistant at PSCK, attended
the 2nd International Conference on “The Interdisciplin-
ary Value of Material Engineering” on December 17,
2024, at Dawood University of Engineering and Technol-
ogy (DUET) in Karachi. The conference was organized by
the Department of Metallurgy and Material Engineering at
DUET Karachi. During the event, Mr. Zaidi engaged in
discussions with faculty members and other participants
regarding potential features for future collaboration.

attended a training course on "Managing Triple Con-
straints in Projects" from November 6-8 at the Pakistan
Planning Management Institute (PPMI), Islamabad. The
course provided insights and strategies for balancing
scope, time, and cost in project management. It aimed to
equip participants with tools to navigate and optimize
these key constraints for successful project outcomes.
