Training Workshop on “Library Automation
for College Librarians” at PASTIC National
Center, Islamabad

A 3-Day training workshop on “Library Automation
for College Librarians” was organized by PASTIC at
PASTIC National Center Islamabad from June 26-
28, 2019. Resource Person, Mr. SherAfzal Khan
(Air University) gave training to the participants on
Koha. 23 participants attended the workshop.The
Director General PASTIC opened the workshop with
Introductory Remarks.

Training Workshop on “Research Tools
and Techniques (SPSS)” at Rawalpindi
Medical University

PASTIC organized a three-day training workshop on
“Research Tools and Techniques (SPSS)” from June
25-27, 2019 at Holy Family Hospital Rawalpindi, in
collaboration with Rawalpindi Medical University
to enhance the research skills and capabilities of the
doctors, faculty members and research scholars.
Forty participants from Rawalpindi Medical
University and Holy Family Hospital participated in
the training workshop. Mr. Muhammad Usman from
PASTIC was the Resource Person of the workshop.
At the end, Chief Guest Prof. Dr. Muhammad Umar,
Vice Chancellor and Mr. ZaheerNasir, Manager
Trainings, PASTIC, distributed the training
certificates amongst the participants.

Technology's visit to PSC Faisalabad

Science & Technology visited PASTIC Sub-centre
Faisalabad on May 31, 2019 and was given briefing
on the services and activities of the sub-centre by Mr.
Muhammad Hasnain, Deputy Director (STI), PSC
Faisalabad, which were appreciated by the Federal
Minister MoST.

and 10 faculty members attended the workshop.

centre Faisalabad on May 31, 2019, and was given

Seminar under Consortium “Networking
of S&T and R&D Libraries of Faisalabad.”
and “Launching PASTIC Cloud KOHA free
Library Automation software in Faisalabad”

A one-day seminar on “Networking of S&T and
R&D libraries of Faisalabad” and “Launching of
PASTIC Koha cloud in Faisalabad”, was organized
by PASTIC with collaboration of University of
Agriculture, Faisalabad on June 21, 2019. In this
seminar Resource Persons briefed and trained
participants, about how PASTIC Koha cloud
software works and helps the Library professionals.

PASTIC with collaboration of the University of
Peshawar organized a grand meeting/Seminar on LIS
Professionals at University of Peshawar on June 17,
2019. In this meeting PASTIC KOHA CLOUD was
launched and a technical session was provided to
participants. Professional Librarians participated in
this activity from all districts of KPK. Resource
Persons Syed HabibAkhterJaffri (PASTIC,
Islamabad) and others give their presentations on
Koha to participants.

PASTIC organized a training workshop on
“Strengthening Library Professionals through
enhancing Technical and Soft Skills” at Quaid-e-
azam Public Library Quetta, with collaboration of
Pakistan Library Association (Baluchistan chapter)
and Pakistan Library Club (Baluchistan chapter) on
June 24-28, 2019. The Resource Persons in this
training were Syed HabibAkhterJaffri (Principal
Librarian, PASTIC), Mr. Iftikhar Shah (HEC
Islamabad), Professor Abdul Baqi (University of
Peshawar) and Dr. Tariq Najmi (Comsats University,
Lahore). Resource Persons gave training on technical
and soft skills. The number of participants was 35.

. Chief Guest was Prof. Dr. Kiran Rafiq, Student
adviser, Jinnah Sindh Medical University. 30 Faculty
Members and Researchers from Faculty of
Pharmacy, Jinnah Sindh Medical University attended
the training workshop. Mr. Muhammad Yousuf Ali,
Resource Person from The Aga Khan University
Hospital, imparted training on Endnote. Mr. Abdul
Fatah Shaikh, Deputy Director PASTIC Sub Centre
Karachi, briefed about PASTIC services through
PASTIC website, at end of workshop, and certificates
were distributed to the participants.

A total of 70 participants were from all major
universities, Medical Colleges & Post Graduate
colleges of Peshawar and surrounding areas. The
Resource Persons included Syed HabibAkhterJaffri
(Principal Librarian PASTIC Islamabad), Dr.
S a e e d U l l a h J a n ( C h i e f L i b r a r i a n ,
KhushalKhahanKhattak University Karak), Mr.
HabiburRehman (Chief Librarian University of
Peshawar) and Ms. Ghazala Ali Khan (Deputy
Director, PASTIC Peshawar).

A meeting with Mercurial Minds was held on May
30, 2019 at PASTIC. In this meeting External
Technical members of Consortium, Mr. Shahzad
Abbas (Comsats, Islamabad), Mr. ZahidIqbal
(international Islamic University, Islamabad), Mr.
SherAfzal (Air University, Islamabad), Mr. Ata-ur-
Rehman (NICP, Quaid-e-Azam University)
participated. The topic under discussion was
“Working issues in the Progress of the PASTIC
Project and issues in deliverables”.

PASTIC Sub-Centre Karachi arranged a one-day training
workshop on "Citation Management with Endnote" at
PASTIC Sub Centre Karachi on June 24, 2019. 16
participants from different universities attended the
training workshop. Mr. SajidAtifAleem, Resource Person
from Jinnah Sindh Medical University gave training on
Endnote. Mr. Abdul Fatah Shaikh, Deputy Director
PASTIC Sub-Centre Karachi, briefed about PASTIC
services through PASTIC website, and documentary of
PASTIC / PSF was played and certificates were distributed
among the participants.

Regional Science Olympiad / Fair June
12, 2019 at Abbottabad

Deputy Director PASTIC, Peshawar participated as judge

i n a b o v e s c i e n c e f a i r h e l d a t A b b o t a b a d , f o r

students/research scholars of Mansehra region, organized

by Directorate of Science & Technology, Khyber

Pakhtunkhwa. More then 130 stalls were displayed by

research scholars of all levels, including schools, colleges,

technical colleges and universities. On the basis of

judgment, scholars were awarded cash prizes at the end of

the session.

SDF Project Skype Mid Year Review
Meeting held on June 24, 2019

SDF Project Skype Mid Year Review Meeting was held on

June 24, 2019. All the 6 project collaborating countries

including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, India

and Pakistan participated in the Skype Meeting.

The meeting was held by Project Funding Agency SDF to

review the project activities done during the period Jan-

June 2019. During the meeting all the country

collaborators delivered their country presentations

regarding out put of the project during 6 months period.
