ISTIC Delegation visits PASTIC

A delegation of Institute of Scientific and Technical
Information of China (ISTIC) led by Ms. Zhao Zhiyun,
Director General and Professor, Mr. GuoDezheng,
Associate Professor, Ms. Gao Fang, Associate
Professor and First Secretary (Science & Technology)
from Chinese Embassy in Pakistan visited Pakistan
Scientific and Technological Information Centre
(PASTIC), Islamabad on July 2, 2019. ISTIC is the
PASTIC's counterpart organization in China.

The main objective of the visit of ISTIC delegation was
to dig out avenues of mutual collaborations between
PASTIC and ISTIC to facilitate research and
development activities between the two countries.

The delegation was received at PASTIC by Director
General PASTIC Prof. Dr. Akram Shaikh, and a team
of senior officers from PSF and PASTIC. On their
arrival the delegation was taken for a round of
PASTIC to give them an idea about the delivery of
v a r i o u s S & T i n f o r m a t i o n s e r v i c e s b y t h e
organization. Later on DG PASTIC delivered a
comprehensive presentation about PASTIC services
and activities and the future plans. Afterwards, the
Director General ISTIC Ms. Zhao Zhiyun informed
about ISTIC role in the national science, technology
and innovation system of China, and that how it is
playing a major role in the national S&T system of
China. She further elaborated that most of the ISTIC
China services are quite similar to PASTIC.
During discussion various areas have been identified
for mutual collaboration including sharing of S&T
information resources, information resource
management, capacity building on academic trainings
for S&T information professionals, Scientometrics
analysis and S&T Report Services etc. It was mutually
agreed that initially both the organizations should sign
a general MoU to develop collaboration for sharing of
mutual resources and expertise for S&T/R&D based
socio economic development under CPEC Road and
Belt initiative.

Training Workshop on SPSS at PASTIC
National Centre to enhance Researchers'
Capabilities

PASTIC organized a three-day training workshop 29-
31 July 2019 for the scholars/ researchers/students on
the topic of “Research Tools and Techniques (SPSS)”
to enhance quality of research. Thirty eight research
scholars from Quaid e Azam University, PIDE,
University of the Punjab, PMAS Arid Agriculture
University, Foundation University, Swabi University
and NUML University participated in the training
program. At the end of the training program, Director
General PASTIC Prof. Dr. Muhmmad Akram Shaikh
distributed the training certificates among the
participants.

Whereas, Director General PASTIC Prof Dr.
Muhammad Akram Shaikh delivered a keynote
speech at the inaugural ceremony of the conference at
Serena Hotel, Swat, Pakistan.
Visit of Mellinium Roots School Students to PASTIC
Nine students of Mellinium Roots School visited
PASTIC National Centre Islamabad on July 31, 2019.
Mr. Saifullah Azeem, Principal System Analyst,
delivered detail presentation about PASTIC activities,
and took them for visit of different sections of
PASTIC. One week un-paid internship will also be
provided to the students at PASTIC.

Nine students of Mellinium Roots School visited
PASTIC National Centre Islamabad on July 31, 2019.
Mr. Saifullah Azeem, Principal System Analyst,
delivered detail presentation about PASTIC activities,
and took them for visit of different sections of
PASTIC. One week un-paid internship will also be
provided to the students at PASTIC.

PASTIC Sub Centre Karachi organized a one day
training Workshop on "HEC Plagiarism Policy &
Effective Usage of Turnitin Service” on July 11, 2019
at PASTIC Sub Centre Karachi. 14 Participants from

various universities including IBA, University of
Sindh, Jamshoro, Pakistan Study Centre, Jamshoro,
Department of Pharmacy, ICCBS, IES, Applied
Chemistry, University of Karachi, Pakistan
Agriculture Research Council, Shaheed Benazir
Bhutto University, Habib University, Jinnah
University for Women & Mehran University, attended
the training workshop. Resource Person, Prof. Dr.
Shahzad Ahmed Memon, from Quality Enhancement
Cell, University of Sindh, Jamshoro was the Resource
Person. In the inaugural session, Deputy Director
PASTIC Sub-Centre, Mr. Abdul Fateh Shaikh
delivered a detailed presentation (through PASTIC
website) to explain the participants about PASTIC
activities.

Whereas in the closing session of the workshop
certificates were distributed to the participants.

Deputy Director PASTIC Sub Centre Karachi presented
Shield to the Resource Person during the workshop.

.Chief Guest was Prof. Dr. Kiran Rafiq, Student
adviser, Jinnah Sindh Medical University. 30 Faculty
Members and Researchers from Faculty of
Pharmacy, Jinnah Sindh Medical University attended
the training workshop. Mr. Muhammad Yousuf Ali,
Resource Person from The Aga Khan University
Hospital, imparted training on Endnote. Mr. Abdul
Fatah Shaikh, Deputy Director PASTIC Sub Centre
Karachi, briefed about PASTIC services through
PASTIC website, at end of workshop, and certificates
were distributed to the participants.

PASTIC Sub Centre Karachi arranged a one-day
training Workshop on "Literature Search &
Endonote" at Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences,
Jinnah Sindh Medical University on July 16, 2019.

PASTIC Sub-centre Peshawar arranged a seminar on

Commercialization" at Sarhad University Peshawar

on July 18, 2019. 42 Participants of different

departments attended the seminar.

The seminar was jointly organized by PASTIC Peshawar,
