Training workshop on “Make Your
Research Life Easier with Mendeley Tool”
held at PASTIC National Centre
PASTIC organized a training workshop on “Make
Your Research Life Easier with Mendeley Tool” on
April 18-19, 2019 at PASTIC National Centre,
Islamabad. The objective of this workshop was to
build the capacity of young researchers and to
enhance their skills in literature search, citation,
sharing and discovering of new research. Dr. Maryam
Ibrar was the Resource Persons of the workshop. 8
participants from Quaid-e-Azam University and
Foundation University participated in this training
workshop.
This workshop was part of a series that are regularly
organized by PASTIC to train the young researchers
on modern ICT tools and techniques useful in
research. There are many citation tools available for
helping researchers in citation during completion of
their thesis. The Mendeley application owes a unique
position among these tools being free, smarter and
user-friendly. Besides it provides an excellent
p l a t f o r m w h e r e r e s e a r c h e r s c a n s e a r c h
jobs/fellowships, research funds, research groups,
and literature etc. Moreover it is a cross-platform
application (Windows, Mac, Linux, iPhone) that
helps researchers to manage and annotate their
scientific paper collections. Citation data from its
cloud library can be accessed across multiple devices
e.g., Laptop, PC, iphone etc.
PASTIC organized a three-day training workshop
f r o m 2 4 - 2 6 A p r i l 2 0 1 9 f o r t h e f a c u l t y
members/scholars/ researchers/students of
COMSATS University, Abbotabad campus on the
topic of “Research Tools and Techniques (SPSS)” to
enhance researchers' capabilities in analytical skills.
Forty participants from COMSATS University,
Abboatabad Campus participated in the training
program. At the end of training program, Chief Guest
Prof. Dr. Arshid Pervez, HOD, Environmental
Sciences and Mr. Zaheer Nasir, Manager Trainings
PASTIC, distributed the training certificates amongst
the participants.

Training Workshop on"KOHA ILS
Software as services (SAS)"
PASTIC Sub Centre Karachi arranged a three-day
training Workshop on "KOHA ILS Software as
services (SAS)" and grand meeting of Senior LIS
professionals on April 15-17, 2019 at Government
College University Hyderabad, in collaboration with
Sindh College Library Association (SCLA). 45
Librarians from different Colleges, Sindh province,
attended the workshop. In the inaugural session Chief
Guest was Prof. Abdul Majeed Umrani, Additional
Director Colleges Hyderabad Region, Prof. Dr.
Nasir-ud-din Shaikh, Vice Chancellor, Government
College University Hyderabad, and Prof. Dr.
Muhammad Akram Shaikh, Director General
PASTIC, was Guest of Honor. Resource Persons
were Mr. Habib Akhter Jaffri, Principal Librarian
PASTIC, Mr. Rab Nawaz Lashari, Librarian
Government College Thatta, Mr. Azam Halepoto,
Librarian, Mr. LiaquatAli Rahoo, Sr. IT Assistant,
Mehran University of Engineering & Technology,
Jamshoro, Mr. Farooq Channar, Chief Librarian,
Quaid-e-Awan University of Engineering, Science &
Technology Nawabshah. In the closing session Chief
Guest was Mr. HabibAkhterJaffri, Project Director
and Principal Librarian, PASTIC National Centre
Islamabad.

policy & Effective usage of Turnitin Service"
PASTIC Sub Centre Karachi arranged a one-day
training Workshop on “HEC Plagiarism policy &
Effective usage of Turnitin Service" at Sindh
Agriculture University, Tandojam on April 16, 2019.
Thirty Faculty Members & Researchers from Sindh
Agriculture University, Tandojam attended the
training workshop. Prof. Dr. Shahzad Memon,
Director Quality Enhancement Cell, University of
Sindh was the Resource Person. Chief Guest was
Prof. Dr. Memon Mujeeb-u-ddin Sahrai, Vice
Chancellor, Sindh Agriculture University Tandojam,
Prof Dr. Muhammad Akram Shaikh, Director
General PASTIC & Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto,
Dean Faculty of Agriculture Engineering were
Guests of Honor.

Seminar on World Book & Copy Right Day
PASTIC jointly organized a seminar on “IQRA” to
mark World Book & Copy right Day, with the
collaboration of COMSATS University, Lahore
Campus, and Danish Society of Library and
Information Services, on April 23, 2019. A number of
students and faculty members attended the seminar.
The main aim of this seminar was to encourage users,
to explore the pleasure of reading books, by
providing them with an opportunity to have a book of
their own. Renowned writers, columnist, and anchor
persons, including Mr. Asad Ullah Khan and Mr.
Asgar Nadeem Syed, participated as Guest Speakers.
Mr. Saifullah Azeem, Principal System Analyst,
PASTIC National Centre, Islamabad and Mr. Ali
Raza Khan, Deputy Director (STI), PASTIC Sub
Centre Lahore, were the Guest of Honors of the
event.
At the end, worthy guest speakers along with Dr.
Robina Farooq (CLA) and Dr. Muhammad Tariq,
distributed the certificates to organizers of the
seminar and presented the shields to Guest speakers.

Seminar on Resource Sharing and
Networking: Needs of Librarians and
Libraries of 21st Century at e-Library
PASTIC in line with its objectives organized a
seminar in collaboration with e-Library Faisalabad &
Society of Reading and Knowledge on “Resource
Sharing and Networking: Needs of Librarians and
Libraries of 21st Century” on April 13, 2019 at e-
Library. 49 Librarians and senior professional from
Faisalabad, Chiniot, and Sammundri attended the
seminar. The Chief Guest was Dr. Tariq Najmi from
FAST Lahore.

Seminar on PASTIC (S&T) Services at
Centre of Biotechnology & Microbiology
(COBM), The University of Peshawar
A one day seminar on PASTIC (S&T) services for
young scholars was organized at Centre of
Biotechnology & Microbiology, The University of
Peshawar, for 8th semester Micro Biology research
scholars. Mrs. Ghazala Ali Khan (DD-PASTIC
Peshawar) presented online detail demonstration that
how young scholars can retrieve their required data
from PASTIC web page and also the online form
submission procedure. At the end of session 15
scholars submitted online request for research data as
per their need.

Department of Zoology, IMS & FTDC,
University of Balochistan, Quetta

A two-day training workshop was organized by
PASTIC sub Centre Peshawar in joint collaboration
of NCE in Physical Chemistry (NCEPC) and Office
of Research Innovation & Commercialization
(ORIC) University of Peshawar on March 25-26,
2019. A total of 74 participants including faculty
members & M. Phil / PhD Scholars attended the
workshop. Dr. Rehman Ali (Assistant Professor,
Quaid-e-Azam Commerce College University of
Peshawar) and Ms. Ghazala Ali Khan (DD PASTIC)
were the Resource Persons. Prof. Dr. Bashir Ahmad
(Dean Life & Environmental Sciences), Prof. Dr.
Muhammad Abid (Dean Numerical & Physical
sciences), graced the inaugural and closing sessions
respectively as Chief Guest.

PASTIC Sub Center Quetta organized an PASTIC
Training Workshop on “EndNote” for Department of
Zoology, University of Balochistan Quetta, on April
9-10, 2019 at University of Balochistan with the
collaboration of IMS & FTDC, for orientation of the
students 35 Research Scholars enrolled in M.Phil /
Ph.D. program along with 10 faculty members
attended the workshop. Lecture was delivered about
PASTIC services by Mr. Abdul Khalique Sial,
Regional In-Charge, PASTIC Sub Centre, Quetta.
Resource Person, Dr. Rab Nawaz Soomro, Assistant
Director, Livestock department, Karachi delivered
the lecture on EndNote Software.
