Seminar at e-library empowers
library professionals of Faisalabad

PASTIC organized a seminar on September 29, 2018
in collaboration with E-Library on “Leadership,
C o m m u n i c a t i o n , a n d I n n o v a t i o n S k i l l s f o r
Information Professionals” for librarians from
Faisalabad, Chiniot, and Sammundri. Eminent library
leader and QEC Director at ITU, Dr. Muhammad
Ramzan, shared the value of knowledge and librarian's
role as a leader to empower the community.

Training Workshop on 'Library Automation
by using KOHA ILS' at the Islamia University
of Bahawalpur

Dr. Tariq Najmi, Deputy Librarian at COMSATS
Lahore, talked about different communication and
innovation styles at workplace. Later, the Chief Guest
Dr. Muhammad Akram Shaikh, Director General
PASTIC Islamabad, appreciated efforts of e-library
staff and the resource persons in promoting essential
knowledge among library community. The seminar
helped to motivate the librarians to work with
innovation and effective communication skills.

A 3-day training workshop on “Library Automation by
using KOHA ILS” at the Islamia University of
Bahawalpur, was jointly organized by PASTIC Sub-
centre Faisalabad and PASTIC National Centre
Islamabad, under the development project of PASTIC
on modernization of libraries, from September 26-28,
2018. The Resource Person was Mr. Nadeem Sohail,
Manager Library, FAST Lahore.

Meeting of Librarians for development
of Consortium of libraries of Pakistan
at Islamia University Bahawalpur

Lecture on E-Filling of Tax Returns at
PASTIC by an Expert Tax lawyer

The workshop focus was on practical training on
Library automation using KOHA Integrated Library
Software (ILS). The number of participants was 30,
hailing from Multan, Rahimyar Khan, Bahawalpur,
Bahawalnagar, Lodhran and Hasil Pur. Prof. Dr.
Rubina Bhatti, Chairperson Department of Library
Science, was the Chief Guest of the opening ceremony.
Syed Habib Akhter Jafferi, Project Director, PASTIC
National Centre Islamabad and Muhammad Hasnain,
Deputy Director PASTIC, Faisalabad were the Course
Coordinators.

A meeting of Librarians was held on September 27,
2018 at Islamia University Bahawalpur for the
development of Consortium (CSTRDLP). The
Participants were from different cities such as
Bahawalpur, Lodhran, Rahim Yar Khan, Muzafarghar
and Multan. This activity is part of the PASTIC
Development Project “Modernization of PASTIC
National Science Reference Library for effective
Resource Sharing among S&T Libraries in Pakistan”.

The main objective of the meeting was to enhance the
membership of consortium (CSTRDLP) through
networking, resource sharing and capacity building of
library & information science professionals.

Syed Habib Akhter, Jaffri, Project Director introduced
the newly customized Open Source Library Software
“PASTIC Koha” during the meeting. This software is
centrally connected platform; through this medium
indigenous scientific research data will be shared among
the members of the consortium for facilitation of
research scholars to solve their problems.

Tax E-filling expert, Advocate Mr Faraz Fazal Sheikh
delivered a lecture on "Electronic-Filing of Tax Returns"
at Pakistan Scientific & Technological Information
Centre (PASTIC) on September 19th, 2018.

The lecture comprised of brief description of
terminologies, rules and regulations, common mistakes
and misconception regarding electronic filling of income
tax returns according to the Income Tax Ordinance 2001.
The lecture was followed by a detailed question answer
session, during which he elaborated different issues and
confusions related to electronic filling of income tax return
and wealth statement by salaried persons.
The lecture was attended by officers of PASTIC, PMNH
and PSF. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akram Shaikh, DG
PASTIC, presented shield of honor to Resource Person Mr.
Faraz Fazal Sheikh.

Workshop on Topic Selection and Literature
Review Step by Step

Techniques (SPSS)”, to enhance quality of research. Mr.
Muhammad Usman was the Resource Person. Twenty
research scholars from Quaid-e-Azam University
participated in the training program. At the end of the
training program, Director General PASTIC, Prof. Dr.
Muhmmad Akram Shaikh distributed training
certificates among the participants.

PASTIC Sub-Centre Lahore organized a one day
workshop with the collaboration of Lahore College for
Women University Lahore (LCWU), on “Topic
Selection and Literature Review Step By Step”, on
September 25, 2018. A total number of 54 participants
from LCWU, others universities and libraries
participated in this workshop.

Mr. Nadeem Sohail, Manager Library FAST, was the
Resource Person. He delivered presentation on “Topic
Selection, Literature Review and Literature citation
management” by using Zetero software. He also gave
the participants hands on practice on searching tools.
At the end, shields and certificates were distributed
among guests, resource persons and participants.
Mr. Ali Raza Khan, Deputy Director (STI), PASTIC
Sub Centre Lahore, introduced PASTIC and its
services. He highlighted the importance of this
workshop. He also presented an overview of PASTIC
website to participants, and showed them an
interesting documentary about PASTIC

Dr. Humaira Majeed Khan, Director, Institute of
Pharmacy, Lahore College for Women University
Lahore, threw light on the importance of research and
research tools assistance in this technological era. She
described that the role of library has totally changed
from traditional to electronic. She said that this training
was a good initiative taken by PASTIC and LCWU,
and it would enhance the research culture at LCWU.

Training workshop on “Learning Data
Analysis through SPSS” at PASTIC Sub
Centre Karachi

Training workshop on "Literature Search
and Endnote" at PASTIC Sub-Centre Karachi

PASTIC Sub Centre Karachi arranged a training
workshop on “Learning Data Analysis through SPSS”
from September 10-11, 2018 at PASTIC Sub Centre
Karachi. Total 17 participants attended the workshop.
In the inaugural session, Deputy Director PASTIC Sub
Centre Karachi, delivered briefing about PASTIC
services, through PASTIC website and documentary of
PASTIC / PSF. Resource Persons were Ms. Sara Wahab
and H.M Aamir Anis, from Jinnah Sindh Medical
University, Karachi. Deputy Director PASTIC
presented shields to the resource persons, and
distributed certificates among the participants.

PASTIC Sub Centre Karachi arranged one day training
workshop on "Literature Search and Endnote" at
PASTIC Sub-Centre Karachi on September 27, 2018.
Total 17 participants attended the workshop. In the
inaugural sessions Deputy Director PASTIC Sub
Centre Karachi briefed the participants about PASTIC
services through PASTIC website, and documentary of
PASTIC / PSF was played. Resource Person was Mr.
Sajid Atif Aleem from Jinnah Sindh Medical
University, Karachi. Deputy Director PASTIC
presented shield to the resource persons and distributed
certificates among the participants.

Awareness Seminar for the Promotion of
PASTIC Services

PASTIC arranged awareness seminars at the following
3 universities:-
University of Sindh, Thatta Campus

PASTIC Sub Centre Karachi organized PASTIC
Services Awareness Seminar on August 30, 2018 at
University of Sindh, Thatta Campus. 50 research
students and faculty members attended the Seminar.
Deputy Director, PASTIC Sub-Centre Karachi,
delivered presentation to the participants about PASTIC
services, through PASTIC website and documentary of
PASTIC / PSF. Chief Guest was Prof. Dr. Sarfaraz
Hussain Solangi, Pro Vice Chancellor, University of
Sindh, Thatta Campus.
