Closing ceremony of the training workshop titled
“Short Term & Attachment Training Courses for
(LIS) Professionals” was held on March 5, 2021 at
Islamabad. PASTIC (Pakistan Scientific &
Technological Information Centre) a subsidiary of
Pakistan Science Foundation, under the umbrella of
Ministry of Science & Technology, has organized a
specialized training course at PASTIC National
Centre, Islamabad from February 15-March 5,
2021.The participants of the workshop included 25
selected Library professionals belonging to AJK,
Balochistan, Gilgit Baltistan, Federal, KPK, Punjab
and Sindh.
PASTIC National Science Reference Library
(NSRL) has developed a consortium of S&T and
R&D Libraries of Pakistan, for mutual cooperation
and collaboration through resource sharing under its
project named “Modernization of PASTIC National
Science Reference Library for effective resource
sharing among S&T libraries in Pakistan”. Under this
consortium various scattered indigenous R&D
information resources available in S&T libraries,
have been centralized over a common online platform
“PakCat” for search by the users. Empowering
Library Professionals on ICT Skills for development
of Pakistan, competence in information handling and
producing an adequate corps of information
scientists, is one of the main objectives of PASTIC.

Shahid Mahmood Baig was the Chief Guest and
Director General, National Library of Pakistan,
Islamabad, Syed Ghayor Hussain was the Guest of
honorin the closing ceremony of this training. DG
PASTIC, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akram Shaikh, in his
welcome address said that, PASTIC is always
striving for improving and strengthening its
information resources and services for the benefit of
R&D community. He advised the participants to
apply and disseminate their knowledge at their
respective parent organizations for the interest of
scientific community.

the workshop.

and to the country in general.
Chairman PSF, Prof. Dr. Shahid Mahmood Baig
appreciated the role of PASTIC in capacity building
of librarians. He said that human resource
development is an integral part of development
process which not only enhance knowledge of work
force but also improve their working capabilities.
During the workshop, librarians were given training
in communicative, writing and presentation skills;
use of software for reference management, library
automation and digitization; marketing of library
services; library services in digital and epidemic era
etc. Certificates and souvenirs were distributed to the
participants and resource persons respectively by the
chief guest.

(CSTRDLP), PASTIC National Centre Islamabad,
met Prof. Dr. Khalid M. Iraqi., Vice Chancellor,
University of Karachi on March 22, 2021. He gave a
brief presentation about Consortium of S&T and
R&D Libraries of Pakistan (CSTRDLP). Prof. Dr.
Khalid asked Director ORIC to provide data of R&D
Projects & Scientist for PASTIC digital databases,
and also instructed the Librarian to provide library
data for PASTIC Koha Cloud.

Session was started with the recitation of Holy Quran,
followed by welcome address by Dr. Muhammad
Fahim (Director, Centre of OMICS-Islamia College
University Peshawar). Ms. Ghazala Ali Khan
(Deputy Director PASTIC) briefed participants about
PASTIC S&T services. Dr. Maryam Ibrar Shinwari
delivered a detail presentation about reference
management tools, installation of Mendeley
software, development of library in Mendeley,
transport of data from different
websites to library, and formatting
techniques.

Poster Exhibition/Competition and Rare Disease Day
was organized by the Centre for Omic Sciences on
March 1, 2021 at Islamia College University
Peshawar.
The honorable Chairman, Pakistan Science
Foundation, Prof. Dr. Shahid Mehmood Baig, joined
the event as Chief Guest and for a keynote lecture on
Rare Diseases in Pakistan. Deputy Director PASTIC
Peshawar, Ms. Ghazala Ali Khan participated as
judge.Total39 universities participated in the
competition. Shields certificates and cash prizes were
distributed among the winners.
