One Day Project Awareness & Training Workshop
on National Digital Archive of research published
in Pakistani Journals
Pakistan Scientific & Technological Information Center
(PASTIC), Islamabad in collaboration with University of
Malakand, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa conducted a one day
Project Awareness & Training Workshop on “National
Digital Archive (NDA) of research published in Pakistani
Journals” on July 22, 2024 at Department of Computer
Science & IT, University of Malakand.
The aim of the event was to create awareness about the
NDA project and empower the Journal Publishers commu-
nity and researchers with modern journal publishing tools
& techniques. The activity was performed under a devel-
opment project titled "National Digital Archive of Re-
search Published in Pakistani Journals" which aims to
provide single electronic platform to Journals Publishers
community for the preservation & dissemination of
research published in indigenous research journals.
Researchers from Malakand and Swat region participated
in the activity. Prof Dr. Muhammad Akram Shaikh,
Director General PASTIC & Member Science, Pakistan
Science Foundation was the Guest of Honor at the Open-
ing Ceremony.
Prof Dr. Iftikhar Ahmad, Director, Center for Computa-
tional Materials Science, University of Malakand & Dr
Zahid Ali, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics,
UoM welcomed the PASTIC team & all the distinguished
guests & researchers from various universities & post-
graduate colleges of Malakand region.
Project Manager, Mr Saifullah Azim, PASTIC National
Centre, Islamabad briefly introduced the project's current
achievements & ongoing plans for promoting research &
development at national level. He has also delivered his
speech on modern approaches towards keyword planning
& searching.
Dr. Ghazala Ali Khan, Additional Director PASTIC
delivered her speech on various information services &
contributions of PASTIC for promoting research &
development at national level. At the end, souvenirs were
distributed to the guest speakers and certificates among the
participants & organizers.

Keynote Speakers delivering presentations on DNA during
Symposium.
Registrar, SSUET addressing the Symposium with glimpse of the
participants on “One-day symposium titled 'Integrating
Biosciences' on International DNA Day'' at SSUET Karachi.
The event began with the recitation of The Holy Quran.
Engr. Dr. Sidra Abid, Chairperson, Biomedical Engineer-
ing Department, SSUET, Karachi stated that DNA Day is
celebrated to honor the pioneering scientists whose
curiosity and determination unlocked the secrets of the
genetic code and to inspire future generations to continue
exploring the mysteries of life during her welcome
address. Registrar SSUET, Cdre Syed Sarfraz Ali (retd)
stated that DNA Day marks a pivotal moment in our
understanding of life at its most fundamental level,
opening doors to advancements in his opening remarks.
Afsheen Tariq, Assistant Director (STI) PASTIC Karachi,
described various information services of PASTIC to
support research and development activities in the
country.
Keynote Speakers Prof. Dr. Kashif, SZABIST University,
Dr. Saifullah University of Karachi (UoK), Prof. Dr.
Qudsia Tariq, UoK, Dr. Methab Alam, UoK, & Dr. Hira
Zahid Assistant Professor, Ziauddin University delivered
insightful presentations on various aspects of genomics.
They also highlighted the impact of stress and pressures on
DNA and emphasized the importance of introducing DNA
extraction techniques at the school level to

biomedical engineering field.

teemed speakers and over 250 participants, including
deans, faculty members, researchers and students.
In the closing session, Acting VC SSUET, Dr. Munawar
Hussain said that DNA is a great discovery and the nation
should take full benefit of it. Prof. Dr. Sidra Abid Syed
Presented vote of thanks. At the end, cash prizes were
distributed to the winners, and souvenirs among the
organizers & speakers.
Event/ Webinar /Meeting Attended
a. Director General PASTIC attended Pakistan Wildlife
Protection Awards 2024 ceremony, held on 31 July at
PNCA, Islamabad. This special event, organized by the
Snow Leopard Foundation in collaboration with the
Ministry of Climate Change & Environment Coordination
and the Illegal Wildlife Trade Challenge Fund, recognizes
the dedication and achievements of our nation's wildlife
guards.

PASTIC Services S&T Awareness Stall
PASTIC Sub Centre Karachi set up a PASTIC S&T
Awareness services stall on July 2nd, 2024 at Sir Syed
University of Engineering & Technology (SSUET),
Karachi. It's noteworthy that over 200 persons visited the
PASTIC Service Stall. Additionally, the display of
PASTIC publications and the collection of highly qualified
scientist profile data further enhanced the impact and
outreach.
