PASTIC-UAF “STEM & IT Innovation

Expo: Innovative Trends in Science

Technology, Engineering Mathematics

and ICTS”

PASTIC Sub-Centre Faisalabad, in collaboration
with UAF, organized a one-day PASTIC-UAF
“STEM & IT Innovations Expo: Innovative Trends in
Science Technology, Engineering Mathematics
(STEM) and ICTS” on January 29, at Expo Centre,
University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF).

400 exhibitors with 200 projects participated from 34
organizations (R&D Organizations, Universities and
Schools / colleges) of Southern Punjab and
Faisalabad. STEM & IT Expo was inaugurated by
Punjab Excise and Taxation Minister, Hafiz Mumtaz
Ahmed, Vice Chancellor UAF, Prof. Dr. Muhammad
Ashraf (HI,SI), FCCI President Muhammad, Mr.
Sikandar Azam, and Director General PASTIC, Prof.
Dr. Muhammad Akram Shaikh.

A two-day hands on workshop on “Basic Research
data Analysis through SPSS”, jointly organized by
PASTIC Sub-centre Peshawar, Department of
Botany and Department of Biotechnology, Abdul
Wali Khan University Mardan on January 8-9, 2020.
45 M.Phil & PhD scholars along with their faculty
members availed the SPSS training.

R&D libraries of Pakistan (CSTRDLP)

During closing session Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ashraf
(HI,SI), Vice Chancellor UAF, was the Chief Guest,
and Prof. Dr. Shoukat Parvaiz, Vice Chancellor,
University of Faisalabad, and Prof. Dr. Muhammad
Akram Shaikh, DG PASTIC, were the Guests of
Honor. Certificates, shields and innovation prizes
were distributed among the participants and
exhibitors.

conducted the practical session.

Ghazala Ali Khan, delivered a detailed presentation
(through PASTIC website), to explain the
perticipants about PASTIC activities. Prof. Dr.

the Resource Person, organizers and participants.

Training workshop on "Applying

Quantitative Research Techniques

using SPSS”

The objective of the seminar was to create awareness
among librarian community, about the consortium
and the tools developed through it. Syed Ghayyur
Hussain, Director General, National Library of
Pakistan, was the Chief Guest at the occasion. While
speaking at the ceremony he appreciated PASTIC
efforts towards establishing a real national platform
for the librarian community for effective resource
sharing. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akram Shaikh,
Director General PASTIC, presented shields to the
resource persons. Mr.Nadeem Sohail, Librarian
Islamia University Bahawalpur, Dr. Tariq Najmi,
Deputy Librarian COMSATS University Lahore, Dr.
Midrarullah Librarian NUST, Islamabad and Syed
Habib Akhter Jafferi, Principal Librarian PASTIC,
were the Resource Persons of the workshop. A large
number of Library professionals attended this
seminar.

PASTIC has established a Consortium of S&T and
R&D Libraries of Pakistan (CSTRDLP) under its
PSDP project entitled, “Modernization of PASTIC
National Science Reference Library for Effective
Resource Sharing among S&T libraries in Pakistan”.
Two software tools have been developed through this
consortium i.e., A Cloud based Koha System, named
as PakCat (Union online Public Access Catalogue /
OPAC) of Books available in Science and technology
Libraries of Pakistan and D-Space full text digital
repository of indigenous S&T literature. Till now 100
libraries have joined this Library Cloud.

PASTIC Sub Centre Karachi arranged a two-day
training workshop on "Applying Quantitative
Research Techniques using SPSS” on January 28-29,
2020 at PASTIC Sub Centre Karachi. 12 participants
from various universities and Departments including
Department of Botany, Biotechnology, ICCBS,
University of Karachi, Pakistan Study Centre,
University of Sindh, Jamshoro, Virtual University,
National Institute of Bone Marrow Transplant
Diseases, SZABIST etc., attended the training
workshop.

Mr. Hafiz M. Aamir Anis, Deputy Director QEC and
Ms. Sara Wahab, Lecture of Biostatistics, Resource
Persons from Jinnah Sindh Medical University, have
given training on SPSS Software. Mr. Abdul Fatah
Shaikh, delivered a detailed presentation (through
PASTIC website) to explain the perticipants about
PASTIC activities. At the end shield was presented to
the Resource Person, and certificates were distributed
among the participants.

January 29-30, 2020 with his team.

University Lahore, University of Punjab Lahore,

Minhaj University Lahore, Superior College

University Lahore, University of Management &

Technology Lahore, University of Central Punjab

Lahore, Beacon House National University Lahore,

Dyal Singh Library, and informed them about the

benefits of the Consortium.

Through joining this consortium, one library can get

access to the material of another library. All librarians

showed great interest to work for strengthening the

libraries, and to become member of the consortium.
