PASTIC
PASTIC Sub Center Lahore organized one day
workshop with collaboration of FAST-NU Lahore on
“Google Apps for Writing Research paper and Thesis
A total of 42 participants from FAST, others
universities and libraries participated in this
workshop. This event was successfully conducted
with the collaboration of PASTIC and FAST-
National University of Computer & Emerging
Sciences.
Director-FAST NU, presented welcome note in
which he introduced FAST as academic institute and
underlined its role in quality education. Dr. Kashif
Zafar, HOD Computer Science Department,
highlighted the importance of research and research
tools assistance in this technological era. Mr. Ali Raza
Khan, Deputy Director (STI), PASTIC, Lahore sub
center gave an introduction about PASTIC and its
services. ”, on 21th February 2018, at FAST-NU
Lahore.

Training workshop on “SPSS Research Tools &
Techniques” was conducted at PASTIC National
Centre Islamabad from 26th to 28th February 2018.

35 students from different universities and scientific
institutes participated in the workshop, which
included students from PIDE, Quaid-e- Azam
university Islamabad, Foundation University

Peshawar, Government Degree College Mardan,
Ministry of Planning Development & Reforms
Islamabad, Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi,
Bahuddin Zakriya University Multan, Allama Iqbal
Open University Islamabad (AIOU) and Gomal
Unversity Dera Ismail Khan.

Mr. Nadeem Sohail, Manager Library was the key
resource person and gave presentation on google
Apps for researchers. The participants did 30 minutes
hands on practice on Google searching strategies,
google scholar, Google drive, Google docs, sheets
and slides. Mr. Nadeem Sohail, presented the Google
Forms, Google clouds search and trained the
percipients about these apps. At the end, shields were
distributed among guests and resource persons.
Participants received their certificates.

Workshop on “SPSS: Concepts &
Practical” at Qurtuba University DI Khan
A Two-day Workshop on “SPSS: Concepts &
Practical” was held on Feb 01-02, 2018 at Qurtuba
University DI Khan.
The workshop was organized jointly by PASTIC
Peshawar, Gulls Association Pakistan & Qurtuba
University, DI Khan. The workshop aimed to give
assistance to research students to understand and
interpret the data obtained from their survey
questionnaires. 55 Research students, from the
Departments of Management Sciences, IT and
Engineering were present to do hands-on and detailed
inputting of data through SPSS.
PASTIC Services Stalls
The resource persons Dr. Yasir Hayata Mughal and
Dr. Ismail discussed the following topics:
Introduction to Sampling and Designs, Inferential
Statistics, Test on One and Two Sample Means, Chi-
square Tests, Non-parametric Tests, Inferential
Statistics and other advance topics. The students were
encouraged to raise their queries about the derived
data from their research outputs.

at Geological Survey of Pakistan, Quetta
Prof. Dr. Hameedullah Khan Alizai (Vice
Chancellor, QURTUBA University) graced the
Opening and Closing sessions of the event and
appreciated the efforts of PASTIC.

PASTIC Quetta organized one day training
workshop on “EndNote” in collaboration with
Geological Survey of Pakistan Quetta on 15th
February 2018 at G.S.P Quetta. The purpose of
conducting this workshop was to make the
researchers learn about EndNote software. Dr.
Umbreen Shaheen was the resource person from
Zoology Department, University of Balochistan.
Mr. Abdul Khalique Sial, Incharge PASTIC Sub-
centre Quetta, gave briefing about PASTIC S&T
information services. Over 50 participants including
scientists and other officials of G.S.P attended the
workshop.

Mr. Adnan Alam Awan, Director (P&I) G.S.P, the

Training workshops on SPSS at
Karachi
PASTIC regularly organizes training workshops on
Research Methodology; this program is for students,
scholars of MSc, MS/M.Phil & Ph.D The objective of
this workshop is to provide basic understanding
about qualitative and quantitative research concepts,
methods and to build capacity of young researchers in
collecting, managing and analyzing data for
qualitative and quantitative research. In continuation
of this regular activity, PASTIC organized the
following training workshops at Karachi:-
1. Training workshop on “Learning Data Analysis
through SPSS” from 07-02-2018 to 08-02-18 with
collaboration of Peoples University of Medical &
Health Sciences for Women, Nawabshah, and Jinnah
Sindh Medical University Karachi
.
Dr. Nazir Khan, Director ORIC, Mr. Sajid Aleem,
Lecturer and Ms. Sarah Wahab, Lecturer, from Jinnah
Sindh Medical University Karachi, were the
Resource Persons.
In the opening session the chief guest was Prof. Dr.
Shamsuddin Shaikh, Pro Vice Chancellor, and
Peoples University of Medical & Health Sciences for
Women, Nawabshah. In the closing session Prof. Dr.
Azam Hussain Yousfani, Vice Chancellor, Peoples
University of Medical & Health Sciences for Women,
Nawabshah was chief guest. More than 40
participants attended the workshop.
2. Training workshop on “Learning Data Analysis
through SPSS” from 12-02-2018 to 13-02-2018, with
collaboration of ORIC, University of Karachi and
Jinnah Sindh Medical University Karachi, at PASTIC
Sub Centre Karachi. A total of 19 participants
attended the workshop. Mr. Sajid Aleem, Lecturer
and Ms. Sarah Wahab, Lecturer, from Jinnah Sindh
Medical University Karachi, were the Resource

Property Rights” was held at Peshawar on February
27th, 2018. The event was organized in collaboration
with Qurtuba University of Science & Technology
(QUSIT) Peshawar Campus.

The main objective to organize the event was to orient
the faculty members/researchers about the basics of
Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) and Drafting and
Filing of Patent Application. Targeted audience was
faculty members, M. Phil/PhD Scholars and
Librarians.
The Deputy Director PASTIC Peshawar delivered
PASTIC Services presentation during the event.

Awareness Seminar on “Intellectual Property
Rights” (IPRs) at PASTIC Sub-Centre Karachi
The PASTIC Sub-center Karachi, organized a one-
day Awareness Seminar on “Intellectual Property
Rights” (IPRs) on 26th February, 2018 with the

Intellectual Property Organization of Pakistan (IPO).
The venue was PASTIC Center at Karachi. A total of
19 participants attended the workshop from various
universities. Ms. Zubiya Hassan, Assistant Controller
/ Examiner, Patent office (IPO) Karachi, was the key
Resource Person. She gave an overview of the
Intellectual Property, mainly focusing on patents,
emphasizing their importance in research and socio-
economic development of the country

PASTIC arranges its Services Awareness Seminar
regularly at various forums and university
departments. The objectives of this regular activity
are to raise public awareness of the importance of
science and technology and broaden geographical
representation by increasing membership and
provide S&T information services to researchers.
The following seminar was organized during the
month of February 2018 at Karachi:-

At University of Sindh, Mirpurkhas Campus,
at Mirpurkhas on 9th February, 2018. More than 300
Researchers, Faculty members & students attended
the seminar.
PASTIC regularly organizes its service stalls all over
the country, wherein PASTIC Services are promoted,
publications are displayed and membership
forms/pamphlets/brochures and different kinds of
forms are distributed. Visitors are briefed about
PASTIC services. In continuation of this regular
activity following stalls were organized during the
month of February 2018.
