Webinar on “Harnessing the Blue Economy:
Sustainable Growth from Ocean Resources”
PASTIC Sub Centre Karachi organized a webinar on
“Harnessing the Blue Economy: Sustainable Growth
from Ocean Resources” on May 23, 2025, via Zoom at
PSCK. The event convened more than 65 researchers,
academics, and professionals from universities and
research institutions across Pakistan.
Ms. Afsheen Tariq, Assistant Director (STI), PASTIC
Sub-Centre Karachi introduced PASTIC key
services, underscoring its status as a leading national
institution dedicated to advancing scientific research
and innovation. Dr. Samiyah Tasleem, Assistant
Professor at the Hafiz Muhammad Ilyas Institute of
Pharmacology & Herbal Sciences, Hamdard
University, Karachi, and a renowned expert in
microbiology and biotechnology was the resource
person of this session.
She provided valuable insights into the vast potential of
the blue economy, focusing on emerging sectors such
as biotechnology, marine pharmacology, and
sustainable resource management. Her comprehensive
presentation effectively combined scientific rigor with
practical, actionable strategies for harnessing marine
resources in an environmentally responsible and
economically beneficial manner.
The session featured a dynamic Q&A segment, where
participants engaged with Dr. Tasleem to clarify key
concepts and explore the applications of her research.
In her closing remarks, Ms. Afsheen Tariq
expressed heartfelt thanks to Dr. Tasleem
for her thought-provoking and insightful presentation.

One-Day Seminar on Intellectual Property Rights
(IPRs).
A one-day seminar on Intellectual Property Rights
(IPRs) at university of Lahore was jointly organized
by PASTIC, IPO Pakistan, and University of Lahore,
(UoL), on June 24, 2025.The seminar brought together
academics, professionals, and students to explore the
fundamentals of patents and innovation protection
mechanisms in Pakistan.
The seminar was officially inaugurated with a keynote
address by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal, Director ORIC
and Dean of Sciences at UOL, who underscored the
increasing importance of IPRs in driving innovation
and economic development.
Mr. Ali Raza Khan, Additional Director (STI) at
PASTIC, served as guest of honor and highlighted
national initiatives aimed at raising awareness and
strengthening enforcement of Intellectual Property
Rights. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ashraf, Rector of UOL,
addressed the audience, emphasizing the university's
commitment to advancing research and safeguarding
intellectual pursuits.
The seminar featured two technical sessions led by
Ms. Shakra Khurshid, Senior Examiner of Patents at
the IPO Regional Office, Lahore. Session-1
(10:15–11:00 AM) was focused on the Introduction to
Patents and the structure of patent applications.
Participants were trained in drafting provisional and
complete specifications, gaining practical insight into
the anatomy of a patent document from the abstract to
drawings.
Session-2 (11:00 AM–1:00 PM) was dedicated to
Patent Claims Drafting. Ms. Khurshid guided
attendees through common pitfalls and effective
techniques in writing precise and enforceable
claims—crucial for avoiding costly legal and
procedural errors.
The event continued with an open Q&A session,
where participants engaged the resource person with

“Comprehensive Teacher Training Program on
Bloom's Taxonomy”
PASTIC Sub-Centre Karachi, in collaboration with the
Pakistan Group of Colleges (PGC), organized a “Compre-
hensive Teacher Training Program on Bloom's Taxonomy”
on June 23, 2025 at the Pakistan Institute of Rehabilitation
& Medical Sciences (PIRMS), Karachi.
The training was attended by 30 participants, including
teachers, instructors, and facilitators from various academic
institutions and disciplines. The primary objective of the
program was to enhance pedagogical skills, and to encour-
age the exchange of best teaching practices.
Dr. Saba Memon, Director and Research Head at Pakistan
Group of Colleges commenced the seminar by delivering a
welcome address. Dr. Ruqaya Nangrejo, Deputy Registrar
and Associate Professor of Physiology at Baqai Medical
University, facilitated the training session. She delivered an
insightful and interactive session on “Training of Teachers
in Bloom's Taxonomy”, focusing on the integra-
tion of innovative teaching strategies and
digital tools into classroom practice. Partici-
pants explored the six cognitive levels of Bloom's Taxon-
omy.
The program concluded with closing remarks by Ms.
Afsheen Tariq, who thanked the management of Pakistan
Group of Colleges (PGC) for their generous support and
collaboration in making the training program a success.

sessions. Chairperson IPO-Pakistan, Ambassador (R)
Farukh Amil, in his concluding remarks, appreciated
the speakers and participants, reiterating the
importance of IPR education in academic institutions.

a well-executed and intellectually rewarding event.

Training workshop titled “Enhance Your Teaching
Skills and Elevate Academic Excellence”
PASTIC Sub-Centre Karachi, in collaboration with the
Pakistan Group of Colleges (PGC), organized a training
workshop titled “Enhance Your Teaching Skills and Elevate
Academic Excellence” on June 28, 2025 at the Pakistan
Institute of Rehabilitation & Medical Sciences (PIRMS),
Karachi.
The workshop aimed to empower educators with innova-
tive teaching methodologies, strengthen pedagogical
practices, and promote academic excellence through
interactive learning sessions.
The session was attended by 29 participants, including
teachers, instructors, and facilitators from various academic
institutions. The event commenced with a welcome address
by Dr. Saba Memon, Director and Research Head at PGC.
She offered a concise overview of PASTIC's core services,
highlighting its pivotal role in advancing education and
research across Pakistan.

methods, and practical classroom management techniques.
The workshop concluded with an interactive Q&A seg-
ment, where participants exchanged insights and addressed
common instructional challenges.
In her closing remarks, Dr. Memon expressed gratitude to
the PASTIC representative, Syed Shabib Muhammad
(Science Assistant), for his active participation, collabora-
tion, and PASTIC's continued efforts in enhancing
professional capacity in the education sector.

Workshop on "PSG 2023 Pakistan Precepts
Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance”
A pivotal workshop titled “PSG 2023: Pakistan Precepts,
Standards, and Guidelines for Quality Assurance” was held
on June 19, 2025, at Cholistan University of Veterinary and
Animal Sciences (CUVAS), Bahawalpur. The event was
jointly organized by the Pakistan Scientific and
Technological Information Centre (PASTIC), the Pakistan
Science Foundation (PSF), and the Quality Enhancement
Cell (QEC), CUVAS, Bahawalpur.
The workshop was honored by the presence of Patron in
Chief, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mazhar
Ayaz, reflecting the event's institutional importance.
Attendees benefited from the knowledge and expertise
shared by esteemed guest speakers, namely Prof. Dr. Asad

Attendees gained valuable insights from distinguished
guest speakers, including Prof. Dr. Asad Ullah Madni

Director QEC, IUB), and Mr. Muhammad Hasnain
(Additional Director, PASTIC).
The discussions centered on the significance of PASTIC,
internal and external quality assurance practices, and
strategies for reviewing and enhancing institutional
performance. The event was attended by 32 participants,
who acknowledged PASTIC's significant contribution to
advancing research activities.

a. On May 22, 2025, eleven nominated Sectional Heads and
staff officers from PASTIC participated in a training
workshop on the E-Government Module (E-Office),
organized by the Federal Government at the PSF
Auditorium. The session focused on strengthening digital
documentation practices within the organization.

Digital Transformation: Ensuring an Equitable and
Inclusive Society," held on June 17, 2025.
