PASTIC and Higher Education Commission (HEC) is

supporting and promoting research culture through

their various activities and services, for the benefit of

research community in Pakistan. Finally both

o r g a n i z a t i o n s s i g n e d a m e m o r a n d u m o f

understanding for eliminating duplication of efforts

by developing cooperation and collaboration through

outreach, policy engagement initiatives, and effective

information sharing at PSF, Islamabad on May 19,

2021.

General PASTIC and Dr. Shaista Sohail, Executive

Director, HEC signed the MoU in an online ceremony

held at PSF. Senior officials of PASTIC, PSF, PMNH

and HEC attended this ceremony.

Chairman, Pakistan Science Foundation, Prof. Dr.

Shahid Mahmood Baig, appreciated this initiative of

mutual cooperation for the interest of the nation.

While addressing Director General, PASTIC, Prof.

Dr. Muhammad Akram Shaikh said that both the

organizations will share their resources and

information, to eliminate duplication of effort for the

C o m m i s s i o n , e n s u r e d t h e c o o p e r a t i o n f o r

complementing each other efforts in their areas of

expertise. Dr. Shaista Sohail, Executive Director,

HEC said that it is very important to utilize our

national resources in effective and intelligent way

through such type of inter organizational cooperation.

She hoped that this mutual collaboration will bring

fruitful results in near future.

PASTIC and PITC joined hands to extend the mutual
cooperation towards strengthening of the national
information resources, and to promote research,
innovation and indigenous product development, for
socio economic development of the country. Both
o r g a n i z a t i o n s s i g n e d a m e m o r a n d u m o f
understanding for potential collaboration, by
facilitating in areas of combined growth for their
beneficiaries at Pakistan Science Foundation
Islamabad on May 27, 2021.

Pakistan Innovation & Testing Centre (PITC) has
been established under PEC, to prepare standards for
PSQCA and conducting tests/trials, performance
validation of EM devices and engineering goods, to
develop local manufacturing industry. While
PASTIC, a subsidiary of Pakistan Science
Foundation (PSF), is committed to serve the nation's
e v e r- g r o w i n g i n f o r m a t i o n n e e d s , t h r o u g h
development of a National S&T Hub/Data Centre,
thereby acting as clearing house for all S&T
information produced in Pakistan.

General PASTIC and Engr. Dr. Nasir Mehmood
Khan, Secretary/ Registrar PEC, signed the MoU in a
ceremony held at PSF. Senior officials of PASTIC,
PSF, PMNH and PEC attended this ceremony.

joint collaboration for socio-economic development
of the country. While addressing, Director General,
PASTIC, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akram Shaikh, said
that both the organizations will share their expertise
for serving the innovators, researchers, industrialists,
academia (faculty and students). Engr. Dr. Nasir
Mehmood Khan hoped that this mutual collaboration
will extend the serving potential of both the
organizations.

PASTIC Sub-Centre Karachi organized an online
training Workshop on “Mendeley: Reference Data
Management for Research" on May 26, 2021 at
PASTIC Sub Centre Karachi. Total 100 researchers
participated in the workshop, including faculty
members & librarians of different universities and R
&D institutions from Sindh, Punjab, KPK, AJK &
Baluchistan. Session was started with the recitation
from the Holy Quran, followed by welcome address
by Ms. Afsheen Tariq, Assistant Director (STI),
PASTIC Sub Centre Karachi. She also delivered
detailed presentation about PASTIC services and its
new S&T and R&D Data Bases, through PASTIC
website. Dr. Maryam Ibrar, Mendeley Adviser /
Senior Scientific Information officer from PASTIC
National Centre Islamabad, was the resource person
of the workshop. She delivered a detailed
presentation about reference data management for
research, and gave online hands on training on
Mendeley Software.

SAARC WE Portal Demonstration /
training to AWCCI

Mr. Nabi bux, Assistant Web Manager, PASTIC
National Centre Islamabad, delivered SAARC WE
Portal Demonstration / training to Afghanistan
Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry
(AWCCI), on April 12, 2021, under the project
“Networking and Capacity Building of Women
Entrepreneurs (SMEs) from SAARC Countries" at
PASTIC National Centre Islamabad. In total 110
women entrepreneurs from Afghanistan have
attended the training.

A Glimpse of online training: -

PASTIC Sub Center Karachi organized an online
PASTIC S&T Awareness Seminar on May 21, 2021 at
PASTIC Sub Centre Karachi. Total 75 researchers
and faculty members attended the seminar. Ms.
Afsheen Tariq, Assistant Director (STI), PASTIC Sub
Centre Karachi delivered detailed presentation about
PASTIC services, Pak Cat and its new S&T and R&D
data bases through PASTIC website.

A view of the online seminar:-

Participation of PASTIC Ofcer in

International Workshop

Dr. Syed Aftab Hussain Shah, Senior Scientific
Information Officer, participated in “Online
International Workshop on Open Innovation:
Increasing the Competitive Advantage of a Nation”,
which was conducted from May 27-28, 2021 through
an online platform, using Zoom Video Conferencing.
This online Workshop was organized by the
International Science, Technology and Innovation
Centre for South-South Cooperation under the
auspices of UNESCO (ISTIC), in collaboration with
the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation
(MOSTI), Malaysia, United Nations Educational,
Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and
Malaysian Technology Development Corporation
(MTDC).
