Three weeks “Short term & Attachment
training courses for (LIS) Professionals”
organized by PASTIC National Centre,
Islamabad
A three-week “Short term & Attachment training
course for LIS Professionals” was organized by
PASTIC National Centre, QAU Campus, Islamabad,
from May 2-18, 2018, under its project entitled
“Modernization of PASTIC National Science
Reference Library for Effective Resource Sharing
among S&T libraries in Pakistan”. One of the core
objectives of this project is capacity building of
library professionals for better library management
in the digital epoch
The objective of the workshop was to improve the
soft and technical skills of LIS professionals for
transforming into innovative future leader. Contents
of this training program were related to library
management e.g., library digitization & automation,
development of library website & marketing through
social media whereas special sessions for improving
communication, writing, research and innovative
skills of the librarians were also included. 25 Library
professionals across Pakistan including AJK,
Balochistan, Federal, KPK, Punjab and Sindh
benefited from this training workshop.
Highly experienced and professional
resource persons were involved in this training. Field
visits to Pakistan Museum of Natural History,
COMSATS Library and National Library were also
part of this training program.
Workshop for Capacity Building of Young
Scientists on “Communicating Science to
Society” at University of Agriculture
Faisalabad
A one-day Workshop for Capacity Building of Young
Scientists on “Communicating Science to Society” at
University of Agriculture Faisalabad was jointly
organized by PASTIC Faisalabad and UAF on May
10, 2018. Inaugural session was presided by Prof. Dr.
Muhammad Akram Shaikh, Director General
PASTIC, and Guest of Honor was Mr. Shasmas-ul-
Islam, Editor, 92 News Faisalabad. In the closing
session the Chief Guest was Prof. Dr. Zafar Iqbal,
Vice Chancellor, University of Agriculture
Faisalabad. The resource persons were Mr. Paras Ali,
Editor Technology times and Ms. Huma Qamar, Ayub
Agricultural Research Institute Faisalabad. Around
130 participants participated in the workshop.

A three-Day Workshop on ''Emerging Technologies
in Research; Google Apps & SPSS'' was organized at
Ayub Agricultural Research Institute Faisalabad on
May 14-16, 2018. Resource Persons were Prof. Dr.
Muhammad Yaseen, Chairman Department of
Mathematics & Statistics, University of Agriculture
and Mr. Nadeem Sohail from FAST Lahore.
Workshop on ''Emerging Technologies in
Research; Google Apps & SPSS'' at Ayub
Agricultural Research Institute Faisalabad
On the first day, the focus of the workshop was on
practical training of Google Apps. 130 scientists
participated in the workshop. The next two days, the
focus of the training was on SPSS, and the number of
participants was 35.
Dr. Abid Mahmood, Director General Agriculture
Research, was the Chief Guest of the closing
ceremony. Muhammad Hasnain, Deputy Director
PASTIC, Faisalabad and Ch. Muhammad Nadeem
Akhtar, Senior Librarian were the Course
Coordinators.
Training program at PASTIC National
Centre, to enhance researcher's capabilities
PASTIC organized three days training workshop on
the topic of “Research Tools and Techniques (SPSS)”
at I.T Lab of PASTIC to enhance the quality of
research from May 2-4, 2018. Mr. Muhammad
Usman, was the resource person. Thirty one students
of M.phil and Ph.D from Arid Agriculture University
Rawalpindi, International Islamic University and
Virtual University Islamabad participated in the
training program. At the end of the training program,
Director General PASTIC, Prof. Dr. Muhmmad
Akram Shaikh distributed the training certificate
amongst the participants.

Seminar on "Technology Development
Fund" at PASTIC Sub Centre Karachi
Training workshop on "Plagiarism" at
PASTIC Sub Centre Karachi
PASTIC Sub Centre Karachi organized a one day
training workshop on "Plagiarism" on April 30, 2018
at PASTIC Sub Centre Karachi. 16 participants from
different universities attended the workshop, which
include Karachi University, Federal Urdu University
of Arts Science & Technology Karachi and Dow
Medical College Karachi. Resource Person was Dr.
Samiyah Tasleem, Federal Urdu University of Arts,
Science & Technology, Karachi.
PASTIC Sub Centre Karachi organized a one-day
Seminar on "How to write Research Paper" on May 9,
2018 at PASTIC Sub Centre Karachi. 16 participants
from different universities attended the seminar,
which include Karachi University, Federal Urdu
University of Arts Science & Technology Karachi,
Benazir Bhutto University Karachi, and Hamdard
University Karachi. Resource Person was Dr.
Samiyah Tasleem, Federal Urdu University of Arts,
science & Technology, Karachi.

PASTIC Sub Centre Karachi organized a one-day
“Workshop on Laboratory Animal Handling and
ethics” with collaboration of Federal Urdu
University of Arts, Science and Technology on May

Lahore. Forty nine research scholars and faculty
members of GCU attended the workshop.
Mr. Muhammad Naeem, Chief Librarian GCU,
welcomed the participants. The Chief Guest of
Inaugural session, Ms. Irum Sohail Director, Quality
Enhancement Cell (QEC), said that such training
workshops are necessary for the capacity building of
the researchers.
Mr. Ali Raza Khan, Deputy Director (STI), PASTIC,
shed light on the objectives and achievements of
PASTIC. Mr. Zaheer Ahmad, E-Library Expert,
Planning and Development Department, was the
Resource Person of the workshop. While
h i g h l i g h t i n g t h e i m p o r t a n c e o f C i t a t i o n
Management, Mr. Zaheer Ahmad, said that creating
references and citing published work in research
writing, is one of the most critical areas in producing
a well-rounded piece of writing. He said that
Mendeley is one of the most popular open source
free computer applications for citing and doing
referencing. He briefed the participants on various
techniques of Citation Management using Mendeley
software.

Prof. Dr. Tahir Kamran, Dean of Arts and Social
Sciences, was the Chief Guest. He was of the view
that students should spend their maximum time in
libraries to increase their knowledge and
understanding on various subjects. He also
distributed certificates among the participants, and
souvenirs to the resource persons of the workshop.
PASTIC Services Stalls
PASTIC National Center and its sub-centers
regularly organize information services stalls all
over the country, wherein PASTIC publications are
displayed and membership forms/pamphlets are
distributed, and the visitors are briefed about
PASTIC services. In continuation of this regular
