Training workshop on “Research Tools and
Techniques (SPSS)”
A two days training workshop on “Research Tools and
Techniques (SPSS)” was organized by PASTIC during
March 28-29, 2023 for the research scholars of Institute of
Psychiatry, Rawalpindi Medical University at PASTIC
National Centre, Islamabad. Objective of this workshop
was to enhance the research capabilities of research
scholars and students. Dr. Maryum Ibrar Additional
Director(STI) was the resource person. Total fourteen (14)
research scholars from Institute of Psychiatry (IoP)
attended the training workshop.
Mr. Saifullah Azim, Principal System Analyst, concluded
the closing session. He briefly introduced the different
PASTIC services and explained the objectives to organize
such training workshops. At the end of the session,

the training certificates amongst the participants.

PASTIC, Sub Centre, Karachi organized online workshop
on “Unlock the power of digital object Identifier (DOIs) in
Research” in collaboration with Advance Educational
Institute & Research Center on March 9, 2023 at PASTIC
Sub Centre Karachi. More than 70 researchers from
different universities and R&D Institutions across Pakistan
attended this workshop. The session was started with the
recitation from The Holy Quran, followed by a
welcome address by PASTIC representative

Seminar on “Intellectual Property Rights''
PASTIC Sub Centre, Peshawar in collaboration with
CECOS University's Centre for Professional Development
( C P D ) , O ff i c e o f R e s e a r c h , I n n o v a t i o n , a n d
Commercialization (ORIC) and Quality Enhancement
Cell (QEC) organized one day awareness seminar on
“Intellectual Property Rights”, on February 9, 2023. The
seminar was conducted by Mr. Zahoor Ahmad Director,
Directorate of Quality Enhancement Cell University of
Peshawar.
The seminar was designed with the aim to help the
esteemed faculty to gain a deeper understanding of IPR
and its importance and can better educate their students on
respecting and protecting intellectual property.The
participants have showed a keen interest in the seminar.

Seminar on “The Importance of Intellectual
Property Rights (IPRs) in promotion of Research
and Technology”
PASTIC Sub Centre, Peshawar in collaboration with
Office of Research & Commercialization (ORIC) and
Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC), University of Swabi
(UoS) organized one day awareness session on “The
Importance of Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) in
promotion of Research & Technology” on March 21, 2023.
Mr. Zahoor Ahmad, Director, Directorate of Quality
Enhancement Cell. University of Peshawar was the key
speaker.
The goal of this seminar was to build capacity of faculty
about respecting and protecting intellectual property by
giving them a deeper understanding of IPRs and its
significance. Prof. Dr. Nasimullah (Chairman, Chemistry
Department, UoS), Dr. Ruidar Ali Shah (Director, ORIC &
QEC UoS), Ghazala Ali Khan Additional Director,
(PASTIC- PSF), Senior faculty members from different
departments along with young researchers graced the
occasion. At the end of session shields and certificates were
distributed.
Awareness Seminar on PSDP Project
“National Digital Archive of Journals Published
in Pakistan''
PASTIC National Centre Islamabad with the collaboration
of Balochistan University of Information Technology
Engineering and Management Sciences (BUITEMS),
Takatu Campus, Quetta, arranged a one day awareness
seminar and Consortium launching ceremony of “National
Digital Archive Project”, on March 9, 2023.
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akram Shaikh, Director General,
PASTIC, Mr. SaifullahAzeem, Senior System Analyst &
Dr. Maryum Ibrar, Additional Director (STI), PASTIC,
briefed the participants about the scope of the project.
Altogether 70 Participants including Journal editors from
the Balochistan region attended the seminar.

Event/ Webinar /Meeting Attended
a. DG PASTIC, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akram Shaikh,
delivered a keynote speech about PASTIC Services and its
role for establishment of National Spatial Data
Infrastructure (NSDI) in Pakistan during a workshop held
at COMSATS University, Islamabad (CUI). The workshop
was organized as a part of the feasibility study for
establishment of National Spatial Data Infrastructure
(NSDI) for Pakistan by Survey of Pakistan having Dr.
Asmat Ali as Project Director, and Dr. Ali Tahir, CEO GIS
Plus. The objective of the workshop was to get feedback
and collect data from stakeholders of NSDI-Pakistan. The
workshop was attended by more than 50 persons from
different stakeholders.

of NSDI project. He appreciated the
initiative taken by Survey of Pakistan to

sharing among departments. He added data sharing is vital
to overcome duplication of efforts and resources in the
country. He also showed willingness to share list and
addresses of R&D and S&T organizations/Scientists
under Government of Pakistan as well as Private Sector.
PASTIC may also assist, on request to the Survey of
Pakistan/NSDI team in highlighting information through
research in the targeted areas [Sectors] of NSDI project
pertinent to Pakistan, which may be used as Datasets.
PASTIC will also host “NSDI Articles” on its website. The
presence of NSDI Articles on PASTIC website would
greatly help in raising much needed awareness of NSDI in
the country, he concluded.

Centre Karachi attended 2nd International Industrial
Chemistry Conference (IICC-2023) having theme of
“Industrial Chemistry towards Sustainable Future:
Growing Together” held on 3-4 March 2023, in both
virtual and in-person formats. The conference was
organized by the Department of Chemistry at NED
University of Engineering and Technology Karachi.
PASTIC National Center Islamabad sponsored the
conference by publishing and printing abstract book of
the said conference.The aim of the IICC-2023
Conference is to promote the exchange of ideas and
research results and foster collaboration between
academia and industry.
