One Day Project Awareness and Training
Workshop for Sindh Region at University
of Sindh, Jamshoro
PASTIC in collaboration with University of Sindh,
Jamshoro organized a one day project awareness and
training workshop on June 12, 2024 to empower the
Journal Publishers community with modern Journal
publishing tools and techniques. Sixty Five consortium
members from Sindh region participated in the project
awareness and training activity. The said Activity was
performed under development project titled “National
Digital Archive of Research Published in Pakistani
Journals” which aims to provide single electronic-
platform to Journals publisher's community for preserva-
tion and dissemination of research published in indigenous
research Journals.
Prof. Dr. Syed Tufail Hussain Shah, Director, NCEAC,
University of Sindh, Jamshoro and Ms Romila Qamar,
Associate Managing Editor, Sustainable Development
Policy Institute (SDPI), Islamabad were the Resource
Persons of the training activity. Prof, Dr. M. Akram
Shaikh, DG, PASTIC introduced PASTIC services while
Mr. Saifullah Azim, Project Manager briefly explained the
project's current achievements and ongoing plans. Prof.
(Meritorious) Dr. M. Siddique Kalhoro, Vice Chancellor
University of Sindh, Jamshoro was the chief guest of the
opening ceremony.

Two Days Training on "Patents Drafting, Filing,
and Management" at The University of Haripur
Pakistan Scientific & Technological Information Centre
(PASTIC) in collaboration with Office of Research
Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC), The Univer-
sity of Haripur successfully organized a comprehensive
two days hands-on training “Patents Drafting, Filing, and
Management” on June 25-26, 2024 at The University of
Haripur.
The training session was conducted by Mr. Zahoor Ahmad
former Deputy Director Patents-IPO Pakistan and Addi-
tional Controller of Examinations, The University of
Peshawar shared his valuable insights and expertise with
the participants. This collaborative effort between ORIC
and PASTIC promoted innovation and intellectual
property development in Pakistan.

Five days training workshop on
“Geochemical Data Analysis Tools and Techniques”
held at HDIP Islamabad
PASTIC National Centre organized an intensive five days
training workshop on “Geochemical Data Analysis Tools
and Techniques” from 6-11 June, 2024 at Hydrocarbon
Development Institute of Pakistan (HDIP) in collabora-
tion with HDIP and National University of Science and
Technology (NUST). Sixteen Geoscientists from HDIP
participated in this training activity. Training was aimed at
building capacity of geologists for geochemical data
analysis using latest tools and techniques. Dr. Zamir
Hussain, an expert Statisticians working as Associate
Professor at School of Interdisciplinary Engineering &

Scientist Convention at IIEE, PCSIR, Karachi
Sciences, NUST was resource person of this training
workshop.
Participants learned into various software tools and
statistical techniques to effectively manage and visualize
geochemical data. Various data analysis techniques like
Exploratory Data Analysis, Clustering, Regression, Time
series analysis and Principal Component Analysis were
performed using geochemical datasets. This initiative
marks a significant step towards enhancing expertise in
geological and geochemical data analysis of geologists
working at HDIP. At the end of training, certificates were
distributed among participants and souvenirs among
resource person and organizers.

PASTIC Sub Centre Karachi on behalf of Pakistan Science
Foundation (PSF) organized “The Scientist Convention:
Science for Socio-Economic Development,” & Golden
Jubilee Celebrations of Pakistan Science Foundation
(PSF), on June 24, 2024 at the Institute of Industrial
Electronics Engineering (IIEE), PCSIR, Karachi. More
than 400 participants from various educational institutions
of Karachi participated in the event.
Engr. Dr. Farah Haroon, Principal IIEE, provided a brief
overview of the goals and achievements of the Institute of
Industrial Electronics Engineering (IIEE) during her
welcome remarks. The event was graced by the presence
of the Federal Minister for Science and Technol-
ogy, Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, as the
chief guest. Dr. Siddiqui, pointed out that the
ratio of researchers per million in Pakistan is less than 500,
indicating a pressing need for greater investment in
scientific research and development. Dr. HU Khan,
Chairman of the Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF),
highlighted 50 years of remarkable scientific accomplish-
ments credited to the Foundation during its celebrations.
Eminent scientists Dr. Prof. Vaqar Hussain (SEGIMITE),
Prof. Dr. Zaheer Ul-Haq, (PCMD), University of Karachi,
Professor Dr. Haroon Rasheed, Bahria University Karachi
Campus, Imran Cheema an alumnus of the Association of
IIEE, delivered the keynote address, by sharing insights
into the latest advancements and future directions in the
field of science and technology.
All dignitaries and other delegations paid visit to the IIEE
Science Projects Display Center. The Chief Guest encour-
aged students to promote and submit their projects to the
Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF) for funding. In the end
of inaugural session, souvenirs were distributed among
organizers, speakers and panelists by the Chief Guest.

A panel discussion on "Science for Socio-Economic
Development”, was conducted in which esteemed
speakers like Engr. Dr. Sidra Abid Syed, Prof. Dr. Shehzad
Nasim, Dr. Syeda Sadaf Akbar, and Dr. Sadia Khalil,
discussed a range of critical topics at the intersection of
science, technology, and socio-economic development
and addressed the students' questions. In the closing
session, the Vote of Thanks was given by Afsheen Tariq
Asst. Director (STI) PASTIC Karachi.

Three Days International Conference on
“Earth Sciences Pakistan 2024 (ESP 2024)”
at Baragali Summer Campus,
University of Peshawar
Three days International Conference on “Earth Sciences
Pakistan 2024” was organized by National Centre of
Excellence in Geology, University of Peshawar from June
2-4, 2024 at Baragali Summer Campus, University of
Peshawar in collaboration with PASTIC & PSF. Prof Dr.
M. Akram Shaikh Director General PASTIC graced the
occasion as guest of honor at the opening ceremony.
Dr. Liaqat Ali Director NCEG & convener of the confer-
ence welcomed participants. Prof. Dr. M. Akram Shaikh
highlighted the importance of collaboration among
academia, industry, and R&D organizations. He encour-
aged academia to focus on applied projects that can be
commercialized and deliver benefits to the community. He
appreciated Pakistan's scientific community and organiza-

Tools and Applications (ICTAPP-24)”

The Institute of Computer Sciences and Information

Sciences, The Agriculture University Peshawar hosted a
three days 2nd International Conference on “Computing
Technologies, Tools and Applications (ICTAPP-24)'' from
June 4-6, 2024 at The University of Agriculture, Peshawar
– Pakistan.

Three Days National Conference on
"Exploring the Nexus: Articial Intelligence and
Libraries" at Sheringal
PASTIC in collaboration with the Central Library-Islamia
College Peshawar, Department of Computer Science &
Central Library SBBU-Sheringal, Department of Library
and Information Science-Khushal Khan Khattak Univer-
sity Karak and Department of Library and Information
Science-University of Peshawar organized a three Days
National Conference on "Exploring the Nexus: Artificial
Intelligence and Libraries" on June 28-30, 2024 at the
SBBU-Sheringal-Upper Dir. The aim was to provide
participants with valuable opportunities for professional
development, networking, and knowledge exchange for
foster professional growth and collaboration among
librarians, S&T Organizations, faculty members, and
researchers from all provinces of Pakistan. The conference
was attended by 200 professionals including librarians,
faculty members, and researchers.

project, “Feasibility Study for Establishment of National
Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) for Pakistan” on June
28, 2024 at Serena Hotel, Islamabad. The event was
attended by all relevant stakeholders and technical
experts. Maj Gen Rafiq Ur Rehman, HI(M), Surveyor
General of Pakistan graced this occasion as the Chief
Guest and showed commitment to achieve the challenging
milestone after a successful feasibility.
