Three days training workshop on “SPSS”

held at PASTIC ISLAMABAD

Pakistan Science and Technology Information Centre
(PASTIC) successfully concluded the three-days training
workshop on Statistical Package for the Social Sciences
(SPSS) at PASTIC National Centre, QAU Campus,
Islamabad. The hands-on training workshop held from
February 19-21, 2025 designed to empower researchers,
students, and professionals with the necessary skills to
effectively utilize SPSS software for advanced data
analysis.

Thirty-Six (36) participants from Department of Phar-
macy, QAU Islamabad attended this training workshop.
Sessions were held on data Transformation, Missing
Value Analysis (MVA), Descriptive Statistics and
Inferential Statistics. Interactive competitions were also
held for participants engagement in the sessions. Partici-
pants also visited PASTIC National Science Reference
Library and the Reprographic Unit (Press). Dr. Muhamad
Usman was the Resource Person for the said training
workshop.

Participants appreciated the program for its insightful
sessions on advanced research tools, instructional
leadership, and modern teaching methodologies. They
highlighted the practical approach and interactive
learning environment as key takeaways, emphasizing its
impact on their research and professional growth.

A Webinar on "Research Smartly with AI Tools:

Search to Citation"

A webinar was organized by PASTIC Sub Centre,
Faisalabad on February 12, 2025.84 participants compris-
ing Deans, Directors, Faculty members, Researcher and
Students from Muhammad Nawaz Sharif University of
Agriculture Multan (MNSUA) attended the webinar. The
main objective of this webinar was to enhance efficiency,
accuracy and innovation in research process.The session
commenced with an overview of PASTIC services by
Muhammad Hasnain Additional Director (STI), PASTIC
Faisalabad. Dr. Maryam Ibrar, Additional Director (STI),
at PASTIC Islamabad as a resource person shared valu-

commitment and their newly developed skills. Dr. Amjad
Khan (Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacy,
QAU) and Dr. Maryum Ibrar (Additional Director,
PASTIC) distributed the certificates among the partici-
pants at the end of closing ceremony.

Event/ Webinar /Meeting Attended

a. Mr. Hafiz Muhammad Rehan Qayyum, Assistant
Manager (RU), successfully participated in a training

course titled “Managing Human Resource in

Public Sector”. This specialized training

able insights on leveraging AI tools to enhance research
efficiency, from conducting smart searches to managing
citations effectively. All participants appreciated
PASTIC's services for researchers.

Participants were introduced with the AI powered
research tools e.g. Semantic Scholar, SciSpace,
ResearchRabbit, Connected Papers for reading, writing,
summarizing, literature review and citation/reference
management. Participants commented on the ease of
using AI for conducting in-depth literature review, with its
automated features of integrating different citation styles
while fostering a smarter approach to information
gathering.

Institute (PPMI) from February 12-14 , 2025.

b. Prof. Dr. Shagufta Ishteyaque, Chairperson of the
Department of Chemical Engineering, University of
Karachi, along with a faculty member, visited the
PASTIC Sub-Centre Karachi on February 14 , 2025 to
explore opportunities for future collaboration with
PASTIC.

c. Mr. Shahid Jamil, Assistant Director (Admin), PASTIC
Sub-Centre Karachi, along with PASTIC officials,
attended a seminar titled “Sustainable Green Process
Industries,” which coincided with the inaugural ceremony
of the Lucky Cement Research Lab at the Department of
Chemical Engineering, University of Karachi, on
February 18, 2025.

d. Dr. Maryum Ibrar, Additional Director (STI) attended a
webinar on “Academic AI for Every Library in the
MENA Region” on February 26, 2025 organized by
Clarivate, Web of Science. Main objective of this webinar
was to help participants enhance their research experience
with a responsibly developed, generative AI-powered
tool. This AI Research Assistant helps users quickly find
the right content and easily navigate complex research
tasks.

e. Mr. Saifullah Azim, Principal System Analyst attended
training course on “Time Management” at Pakistan
Planning and Management Institute (PPMI) on February
19-21, 2025. The course equipped individuals with
essential strategies and tools to improve their time
management skills, enhance productivity, and maintain
continuous improvement in personal and professional
