PASTIC National Centre organized, “Three Weeks
Short Term Training Course” for LIS Professionals”
from February 15, 2021 to March 05, 2021.
The inaugural ceremony was held on February 15,
2021 at National Centre, QAU Campus, Islamabad.
The Chief Guest for the ceremony was Prof. Dr.
Muhammad Ali Shah, Vice Chancellor, Quaid-i-
Azam University, Islamabad and the Guest of Honor
was Prof. Dr. Shahid Mahmood Baig S.I, Chairman
Pakistan Science Foundation, Islamabad.
The participants of the training workshop were from
Federal Areas, Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber
Pakhtunkhuwa and Gilgit-Baltistan provinces.

Communication & Software Skills, Library
Automation & Digitization, Citation & Reference
Management, Marketing of Library Services, Library
Services in Electronic & COVID-19 Era, etc.
During this Training Course about 10 sessions were
held. In the first session, the participants learned
about Effective Communication Skills, best
Presentation Skills and Time Management by Ms.
Tooba Ahmad (COMSATS University, Lahore). Her
lecture was very interactive and informative.

In the second, third and fourth sessions, Dr.
Muhammad Tariq (COMSATS University, Lahore)
delivered contents about the soft skills of librarians
for making them leader, innovator, planner and
communicator.
In the fifth session, Dr. Salman Bin Naeem (Islamia
University of Bahawalpur) delivered his presentation
on Personality development for LIS professionals
while Syed Ghayor Hussain (National Library,
Islamabad) discussed Copyright Issues in Libraries.
In the sixth session, Mr. Muhammad Jawaad (AIOU,
Islamabad) discussed Foundation & Theories of LIS
Profession and Library procedures (Acquisition,
Cataloguing and Circulation) in the digital era.

introduced Library Automation and Mr. Basharat
Hafeez (AIOU), introduced MARC/RDA as a content
standard for library resource description. Mr. Qamer
Naveed (FAST-NU, Islamabad)delivered his
presentation on Virtual / Insignia.
In the tenth session, Mr. Chaudhry Nadeem, AARI
Faisalabad, carried out hands on training on Calibre
E-Book Manager Software.

Study tours to renowned Libraries of the Islamabad
city were also part of the program. Participants visited
Central Library of COMSATS University, National
Library of Pakistan, Central Library of National
University of Science & Technology (NUST) and
Central Library of National University of Computer
and Emerging Sciences (FAST-NU).
Awareness Seminars for Consortium of S&T

(CSTRDLP)
Awareness Seminars for Consortium of S&T and
R&D Libraries of Pakistan (CSTRDLP) were
organized on February 8-9, 2021 in the following
Universities of Lahore. The presentation on the
seminar was delivered by the Resource Person, Syed
Habib Akhtar Jafery, Project
Director, PASTIC Islamabad.

Workshop on Literature Searching Techniques
& Free Online Resources for Scholars: A
proceeding
Total 40 participants from University of the Punjab
participated in the seminar. Collaborator from the
Punjab University was Dr. M. Haroon Usmani, Chief
Librarian, Punjab University Lahore.

Seminar on PASTIC Koha Cloud, Digital Repository
and PAKCAT was held on February 09, 2021 at Hailey
College of Commerce, University of Punjab, Lahore.

The PASTIC Sub Centre Lahore in collaboration
with the Superior College Lahore, organized a
workshop on “Literature Searching Techniques and
Free Online Resources for Scholars”, on February 27,
2021. Total 47 participants from the department of
English Language & Literature participated in the
workshop.
Welcome address by the Senior Advisor, Prof. Sajjad
Hassan.
The Session was started with the recitation from the
Holy Quran, followed by welcome address by the
Senior Advisor, Prof. Sajjad Hassan, who highlighted
t h e i m p o r t a n c e o f t h e s e m i n a r f o r R & D
workers/scientists in equipment of the students with
the advanced skills of the modern times.
A presentation on the introduction of PASTIC
services was delivered by Mr. Ali Raza Khan, Deputy
Director (STI), PASTIC sub-centre Lahore. In the
second session Mr. Nadeem Sohail, Manager Library
presented the Literature Searching Techniques and
conducted Hands on Practice Session

PASTIC Sub-Centre Karachi organized an online
seminar on "Understanding the role of Intellectual
Property Rights and Patent information in research
and innovation” on February 10, 2021 at PASTIC Sub
Centre Karachi. Total 20 researchers of different
universities and R &D Institutions from Sindh and
Punjab participated in the seminar. The session was
started with the recitation from the Holy Quran,
followed by welcome address and PASTIC Services
presentation by Mr. Abdul Fatah Shaikh, Deputy
Director (STI), PASTIC Sub Centre Karachi. Ms.
Saima Kanwal, Deputy Director (TISC), National
Focal Person, Intellectual Property Organization of
Pakistan (IPO-Pakistan), Islamabad was the resource
person of the workshop. She gave a detail
presentation about Intellectual Property rights
(IPR's).

At the end, shields and certificates were distributed
among the guests, resource persons and the
participants. Concluding remarks were given by Prof.
Dr. Salman Masood, Dean Faculty of Commerce &

1stInternational Industrial Chemistry Conference
(IICC – 2021) 26-28th February, 2021 was organized
by Chemistry Department of the NED University of
Engineering & Technology at NED University of
Engineering & Technology, Karachi. PASTIC
N a t i o n a l C e n t r e I s l a m a b a d s p o n s o r e d t h e
conference, published & printed Abstract book.
The conference aims to promote strong industry
academia networks from across the country and
globe, to learn, discuss current research, challenges
in industrial processes and new innovations.

pharmaceutical and environmental chemistry, natural
products, textile chemistry, catalysts, green
approaches, water treatment etc. more than 150
research abstracts from various countries including
Australia, USA, UK, Spain, Morocco, Turkey,
Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, India and
Pakistan, online oral technical session, posters
presentations were also conducted.

service on February 21, 2021. He was a highly
