Data Collection Seminar under SDF
Project “Networking and Capacity Building
of Women Entrepreneurs from SAARC
Countries” at SWCCI Peshawar
A one-day seminar under SDF Project “Networking
and Capacity Building of Women Entrepreneurs
from SAARC Countries” was held on February 7,
2019 at Sarhad Women Chamber of Commerce and
Industries at Peshawar. A total of 30 women
entrepreneurs along with Ms. Azra Jamshed
(President Women Chamber), Afsheen Malik (Vice
President Women Chamber and Mrs. Fitrat Ilyas
Bilour (Excutive member) actively participated.
From PASTIC Dr. Saima Huma Tanveer, Mr.
Saifullah Azeem, Ghazala Ali Khan and Muhammad
Usman attended the session.
Dr. Saima Huma Tanveer, Project Director,
emphasized the objective of the project. While, Mr.
Saifullah Azeem, and Mr. Muhammad Usman gave a
brief account of already performed activates at
different chambers nation wide and international
activities under the umbrella of this project. The
Chamber President and her team took keen interest,
filled the data collection forms and showed their
willingness to work with PASTIC in future as well.

TISC-Seminar on “Patents &
Trademarks as Social Sciences Resources”
A one-day Technology & Innovation Support Centre
(TISC) seminar titled “Patents & Trademarks as
Social Sciences Resources,” was jointly organized on
February 28, 2019 by PASTIC, ORIC- Qurtuba
University of Science & Information Technology,
Dera Ismail Khan Campus, KPK and IPO-Pakistan.
The program was started with the recitation from the
Holy Quran. Mrs. Ghazala Ali Khan, Dy. Director
(STI), PASTIC Sub-Centre, Peshawar briefed the
audience about the PASTIC Services. Mr. Ghulam
Mujtaba Kamal, Resource Person, IPO-Pakistan
delivered a talk on the importance of Intellectual
Property Rights particularly in the domains of patents
& trademarks as social sciences resources. The
seminar was attended by researchers as well as
faculty members. Question-Answer session was also
held at the end of presentation and certificates were
distributed among the participants. Finally, the
shields were awarded to the management and
organizers.
Training workshop on SPSS at PASTIC
National Centre, QAU Campus, Islamabad
to enhance researcher's capabilities.
PASTIC organized a three-day training workshop on
F e b r u a r y 2 6 - 2 8 , 2 0 1 9 f o r t h e s c h o l a r s /
researchers/students on the topic of “Research Tools
and Techniques (SPSS)” to enhance quality of
research. Twenty seven research scholars from Quaid
e Azam University, PIDE, Rawalpindi Medical
University, PIEAS, Bahria University and
Agriculture University, Faisalabad participated in the
training program, while two scholars from National
Agriculture Research Centre and National Centre for
Physics also participated in the training workshop. At
the end of the training program, Manager Trainings,
Mr. Zaheer Nasir and Principal System Analyst Mr.
Saif ullah Azim distributed the training certificates
among the participants.

evolution of societies by converting them into the
digital economy.

PASTIC in collaboration with University of
Agriculture, Faisalabad (UAF) organized one day
PASTIC-UAF-ICT-EXPO Titled “Innovative Trends
In Science and Education” at Expo Centre, UAF on
February 20, 2019.
The objectives of the workshop were to create
awareness in the audience about the latest ICT
tools/technologies and applications, and to provide
an opportunity to academic innovators to showcase/
market their ICT projects/innovations/products and
enhance networking opportunity and creativity
among ICT professionals.
The various universities, colleges and institutes
displayed their innovative ideas/projects related to
ICT, such as National University of Computer and
Emerging Sciences (former FAST) Faisalabad
Campus, NFC, Govt. College University for Women,
Govt College University, University of Engineering
& Technology (UET) Faisalabad campus, Khawaja
Fareed University of Engineering and Information
Technology, Rahim Yar Khan, University of
Sargodha, University of Central Punjab, National
Textile University, UAF Sub-Campus Burewala and
UAF. The exhibitors also discussed their modes and
means of innovations with the visitors. A total of 130
ICT and related projects were displayed at the Expo.
Inaugural ceremony was held at New Senate Hall,
UAF. Mr. Zia Alamdar, President, Faisalabad
Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) was the
Chief Guest. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akram Shaikh,
Director General PASTIC in his address sensitized
and motivated the students to develop innovative and
state of the art projects for showcasing in such
exhibitions while PASTIC is organizing same events
in other cities of Pakistan. Prof. Dr. Aftab Maroof,
Director, FAST Faisalabad campus emphasized
business community to take up best of the best idea
being displayed in this Expo for the benefit of the end
user. After the closing of the inaugural session,
formal opening of ICT exhibition was carried out by
President FCCI along with other guests.
Four members from PASTIC, UAF, NTU, FAST
evaluated the ICT innovations displayed at stalls
under a prescribed mechanism. At the end of
concluding ceremony, cash awards were distributed
a m o n g 1 0 b e s t i n n o v a t o r s f r o m d i ff e r e n t
Universities. Moreover, shields were also distributed
among the organizers of the ICT Expo from PASTIC
and UAF.

welfare Board, Bhittai Dental & Medical college,

etc., attended the training workshop. Mr. Aijaz
Akhter Ahmedani Resource Person has given
training on SLiMS.
PASTIC Sub Centre Karachi arranged Two days
training workshop on "Data Analysis through
STATA Software" at PASTIC Sub Centre Karachi on
February 26– 27, 2019. Participants from different
universities and departments like Department of
Genetics, University of Karachi, IBA, Dawood
University of Engineering & Technology,
Department of Sociology, University of Karachi,
Education Department Government of Sindh,
College Education Government of Sindh, Benazir
Bhutto Shaheed University, IoBM, University of
Sindh, Jamshoro etc attended the training
workshop.Ms. Sara Wahab, Resource Person from
Jinnah Sindh Medical University, gave training on
STATA Software.
Awareness Seminars for the Promotion
of PASTIC Services
PASTIC arranged a Services Awareness Seminar at
the following Institute:
Department of Soil & Environmental Sciences,
Agriculture University Peshawar
A one-day seminar on PASTIC S&T services was
organized in collaboration with Department of Soil
and Environmental Sciences, The Agriculture
University Peshawar for their Ph.D and M. Sc (Hons)

scholars. However, students from Agronomy
Department under the supervision of Dr. Shazma has
also attended seminar. Mrs. Ghazala Ali Khan (DD-
PASTIC Peshawar) presented the use of PASTIC
Services and also presented the online form
submission procedure. A total of 45 research scholars
attended the session.
Awareness Seminars for the
Promotion of PASTIC Services
Dr. Syed Aftab Hussain Shah, Sr. SIO, PASTIC
attended IRP meeting on February 15, 2019 at PIDE,
Islamabad regarding forthcoming Islamabad
Innovation Summit in 2020 at Quaid-i-Azam
University, Islamabad.

“Patent Database Searches & Development
of Technology & Innovation Support
Centres (TISCs)”
Dr. Syed Aftab Hussain Shah, Sr. SIO, PASTIC
attended training workshop on “Patent Database
Searches & Development of Technology &
Innovation Support Centres (TISCs),” organized by
IPO- Regional Office Lahore & HEC-WIPO at
Lahore University of Management Sciences
(LUMS), Lahore on February 20-21, 2019. The
workshop highlighted real time patent filing issues,
searching techniques by using different patent
databases, i.e., PATENTSCOPE and ESPACENET,
etc.
The Director General PASTIV attended a three-day
Conference cum Expo organized by the Ministry of
Science and Technology at PCSIR Laboratories
Complex, Lahore on February 11, 2019. The title was
“Higher Education in Science and Technology for
Socio-Economic Development of Pakistan” . The
Expo was inaugurated by Senator Mr. Mushtaq
Ahmed inaugurated. The conference revolved
around the linkages between adaption of best
practices by sharing the success stories of
universities, R&D organizations and different
industries of Pakistan, which lead to Domestic
Education Policy Reforms, Economic Growth,
Sustainable Development, Innovation and
Entrepreneurship.
The objective behind arranging this expo is to realize
and emphasize upon the public mission and potential
of higher education in Pakistan and facilitate the
engagement between academic institutions,
industry, policy makers and leadership to share and
recommend best practices.

PASTIC Services Stalls
Lahore
PASTIC National Center and its sub-centers
regularly organize information services stalls all
over the country, wherein PASTIC publications are
displayed and membership forms/pamphlets are
distributed, and the visitors are briefed about
PASTIC services. In continuation of this regular
activity the following stall were organized during the
month of February 2019 at the following place:-

Laboratories Complex, Lahore on February 11-12,
2019, during Conference cum Expo.
