ceremony with senior officials of PSF, PASTIC, & COMSTECH.
PASTIC in collaboration with Government College
University Faisalabad (GCUF) organised one day training
activity on Open Journal System (OJS) on December 9,
2023 to empower the Journal Publishers community with
modern Journal publishing tools and techniques. Dr.
Adnan Amin, Lecturer IM Sciences, Peshawar was the
resource person. Fifty two (52) journal editors as consor-
tium members participated in the training activity from
Faisalabad region. Activity was performed under develop-
ment project titled “National Digital Archive of Research
Published in Pakistani journals”.
Through this project, PASTIC is aimed to develop Net-
working of Journals Publishers, Preservation of National
Research Content, Standardization of Journals Reposi-
tory and development of Visualization Model to Review
Research Trends by providing free Journal Hosting, Data
import and Backup Services, Financial Assistance for
Digitization and Capacity Building.
Project Manager, Mr. Saifullah Azim briefly introduced
the project's current achievements and ongoing plans.
During the closing ceremony, Director General, PASTIC,
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akram Shaikh briefly introduced the
PASTIC services. He also described the project's aim and
objective to provide single electronic-platform to Journals
publisher's community for preservation and dissemination
of research published in indigenous research Journals. Dr.
Tanveer Shahzad, Director ORIC, GCUF graced the event
during closing ceremony by distributing the
certificates to the participants.
COMSTECH (Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)
Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological
Cooperation) an inter-governmental organization has been
established to promote and coordinate scientific and
technological activities among OIC member states.
PASTIC & COMSTECH joined hands towards building a
common platform for launching collaborative activities in
the relevant fields of mutual interest. Both organizations
signed a memorandum of understanding for potential
collaboration by facilitating in areas of combined growth
for their beneficiaries.

COMSTECH, Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary (Mustafa
Laureate HI, SI, TI) signed the MoU in a ceremony held at
COMSTECH Secretariat, Islamabad on December 5,
2023. Senior officials of PSF, PASTIC and COMSTECH
attended this ceremony.
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akram Shaikh, Director General
PASTIC said that PASTIC will extend the cooperation for
resource sharing, and knowledge dissemination among
libraries in member states through forming an alliance or
consortium of libraries across OIC states.

Prof. Dr. Mohammad Suhail Zubairy (HI, SI, FPAS) on
December 4, 2023 at the A.Q. Khan Auditorium of the
Pakistan Academy of Sciences, Islamabad.
The speaker, Dr. Muhammad Suhail Zubairy (HI, SI,
FPAS) is a distinguished Professor of Physics in the
Department of Physics and Astronomy at the Texas A&M
University (USA). Prof. Zubairy has made pioneering
contributions in the fields of Quantum computing, laser
physics and quantum optics and has authored and co-
authored several books and over 300 research papers on a
wide variety of research problems relating to theoretical
physics. His research work has been widely recognized by
the physics community worldwide. He has received
several awards and honours during his professional career.
Presently, he is on a short visit to Pakistan to inspire young
and enthusiastic students/researchers on the topic of
mysteries of quantum mechanics.
Prof. Dr. Akram Shaikh, Director General PASTIC graced
the occasion with valued presence accompanied by senior
PASTIC officials.
b. PSCK Officer Afsheen Tariq Assistant Director (STI)
attended Seminar on “DHA Tech Talk: Building the
Future” on December 12, 2023 at the Convention Hall
DHA Country & Golf Club Karachi. The event was
organized by the Ecommerce Gateway Pakistan (Pvt.) Ltd
and DHA Karachi.
c. On behalf of Pakistan Science Foundation, Afsheen
Tariq Assistant Director (STI), PASTIC Karachi attended
a Seminar on “Tropical Cyclone and Tsunami Threats to
Pakistan Coast and our Preparations” on the occasion of
50th anniversary of the PTC, PMD on
December 13, 2023 at Pearl Continental
hotel, Karachi. The event was organized by
PASTIC S&T Services Awareness Stall
A post conference workshop on the "Role of Microbes in
Everyday Life" held on December 7, 2023, at the Pakistan
Institute of Rehabilitation and Medical Sciences (PIRMS)
Karachi. The workshop was organized by Pakistan Society
for Microbiology in collaboration with Government of
Sindh Education Department, Pakistan Science Founda-
tion, PASTIC sub-centre, Karachi (PSCK), and PIRMS.
Afsheen Tariq, Assistant Director (STI) PSCK highlighted
the various activities & scientific projects of Pakistan
Science Foundation & PASTIC regarding their role for the
development and promotion of science. She also gave
presentation on importance of prevention of infectious
diseases in children's, promoting healthy habits for a
stronger future, vaccination, immunization, good hygiene
habits, healthy lifestyle and nutrition etc.
