Hybrid Webinar on Data analysis with SPSS
PASTIC National Center, Islamabad organized a hybrid
(onsite/online) webinar titled “Data analysis with SPSS” on
January 22, 2026. The event attracted more than 85 partici-
pants from Pakistan and abroad.
During the webinar, Mr. Nabi Bux delivered an overview of
the services offered by PASTIC. He highlighted key
resources available through the PASTIC website, including
access to scientific article databases, information on R&D
projects, research equipment, and other related support
services aimed at strengthening the national research
ecosystem.
The technical session was led by Dr. Muhammad Usman,
Database Administrator, who delivered an introductory
presentation on SPSS. His session covered foundational
concepts such as understanding data types, data manipula-
tion techniques, and performing descriptive and inferential
statistical analyses, supported by simple and illustrative
examples to enhance participants' understanding.

One Day Seminar on "Drafting and Filing of
Patent Application”
PASTIC Regional Office Peshawar in collaboration with
PCSIR Laboratories Complex Peshawar organized a one-
day seminar "Drafting and Filing of Patent Application" on
January 13, 2026 at PCSIR Lab. Complex, Peshawar. The
seminar featured a keynote address by Zahoor Ahmad
Director, Directorate of Quality Enhance, University of
Peshawar in which he emphasized the signifi-
cance of IPR including patents, copy-rights,
trademarks, trade secrets, industrial design
Two-days hands-on Training on “Data Analysis
using SPSS”
The PASTIC National Center, Islamabad successfully
concluded two-days hands-on training on “Data Analysis
using SPSS” held from January 28–29, 2026. The training
brought together 46 researchers and faculty members from
leading academic and research institutions, including
Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU), International Islamic
University (IIU), Pakistan Institute of Development
Economics (PIDE), Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture
University, Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) and
others.
Participants were guided through essential statistical
concepts that form the basis for effective data analysis. The
session began with an introduction to the basic principles of
statistical analysis followed by a detailed discussion on
different types of data and their characteristics. Emphasis
was placed on data pre-processing techniques including
data transformation methods and the analysis of missing
values highlighting their importance in ensuring data
quality and accuracy. Participants also gained hands-on
experience in data manipulation using SPSS allowing them
to apply theoretical concepts in a practical environment.
Hands-on inferential analysis—including t-tests, ANOVA,
correlation, regression, and chi-square testing—was
conducted data import from multiple sources was demon-
strated and a team-based case study exercise was facilitated.

Chairman PSF, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Akmal, visited the
session encouraged converting training into employable
skills, sought constructive feedback, emphasized end-of-
training evaluations and reaffirmed PSF's commitment to
skill development aligned with national and market needs.
The sessions were conducted by Dr. M. Usman (DBA,
PASTIC), as the resource person. Ms. Rabia Zafar, Lecturer
at Bahria University, provided continuous voluntary
support by assisting participants throughout the training
sessions.

A significant webinar on “Learn Smart Reference Manage-
ment with Mendeley” was held on January 27,2026 at
Muhammad Nawaz Sharif University of Agriculture
Multan, organized by PASTIC, PSF and MNSUA Multan.
The webinar was attended by 48 participants from the
university. Muhammad Hasnain, Additional Director
PASTIC introduced PASTIC's services briefly highlighting
its role in promoting scientific knowledge, research
support, and access to digital resources.
Dr. Maryam Ibrar, Additional Director (STI), PASTIC
served as the resource person for the webinar. During the
two-hours session, participants were introduced to the
fundamentals of reference management and learned how
Mendeley can streamline academic and research work. Key

Workshop on “The Research Publication Pathway:
Navigating the Submission and Review Process”
PASTIC regional office Faisalabad organized a one day
workshop on “The Research Publication Pathway: Navi-
gating the Submission and Review Process” on January 06,
2026. The workshop was attended by around 210 partici-
pants from Government College Women University
Faisalabad. Muhammad Hasnain Additional Director(STI)
PASTIC Faisalabad introduced PASTIC's services and its
role in scientific knowledge dissemination and research
support The session was conducted by Prof. Dr. Salman Bin
Naeem, Chairman, Department of Information Manage-
ment, The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, who shared
practical insights on credible journal selection, avoiding
predatory practices, publication ethics and the peer-review
process. VC. Prof. Dr. Kanwal Ameen (T.I.) emphasized the
importance of quality research, ethical compliance and
meaningful academic contributions.

Glimpse of the Webinar “Research Ethics & Responsible
Conduct” via Zoom at PASTIC, Karachi
features included organizing research papers, generating
citations, creating bibliographies, and integrating
Mendeley with Microsoft Word. A live demonstration
further helped attendees understand the workflow in real
time. In addition, participants were guided on effective
literature searching through the HEC Digital Library and
open-access repositories such as PubMed, Semantic
Scholar etc..
Webinar on “Research Ethics & Responsible Conduct”
PASTIC regional office Karachi organized a webinar titled
“Research Ethics & Responsible Conduct” on January 23,
2026 via Zoom at PASTIC Sub-Centre Karachi. The
webinar aimed to promote ethical research practices and
enhance awareness regarding integrity, transparency and
responsible behavior in scientific research.
Ms. Afsheen Tariq, Assistant Director (STI), PASTIC Sub-
Centre Karachi highlighted the role of PASTIC as a
constituent organization of the Pakistan Science Founda-
tion (PSF).
The session was led by Dr. Bina Hasan, Assistant Professor,
Department of Biochemistry, and University of Karachi
who delivered an insightful presentation on research ethics,
plagiarism and authorship responsibilities, data integrity.
The webinar was attended by around 100 participants
including faculty members, researchers, and students from
universities, R&D institutions, and research organizations
across Pakistan.
Abstract Book of the International Conference on Extreme
Weather Events: Impacts and Responses (ICEWE-2026)”
February 03-04, 2026
The Society of Economic Geologists & Mineral Technolo-
gists (SEGMITE), Abbottabad University of Science &
Technology (AUST), Pakistan Council of Research in
Water Resources (PCRWR), Pakistan Meteorological
Department (PMD) in collaboration with PASTIC and
HEC will host the two-days International Conference on
Extreme Weather Events: Impacts and Responses
(ICEWE-2026)” February 03-04, 2026. PASTIC collabo-
rated by printing and publishing 150 copies of the abstract
book for the conference, ensuring that the research contri-
butions and scholarly insights were widely accessible to
participants and institutions.

Two-day 7 International Conference on Sustainability in
Process Industry (SPI-2026) will be organized by the
Department of Chemical Engineering, University of
Engineering & Technology, Peshawar, on February 09-10,
2026, in collaboration with HEC PASTIC, Tehnolo (Pvt)
Ltd. PASTIC contributed to the event by printing and
publishing 80 copies of abstract books for the conference.
This collaboration aims to foster innovation and sustainable
practices in the process industry, bringing together experts
and enthusiasts from around the world.

a. Ms. Afsheen Tariq, Assistant Director, PASTIC Sub-
Centre Karachi visited the exhibition stalls of “Mera Brand
Pakistan” on January 03, 2026 at the Expo Centre Karachi.
The exhibition was organized by the Pak International
Business Forum (PIBF). During her visit, Ms. Afsheen

Tariq interacted with exhibitors and reviewed a diverse
range of locally developed products and services highlight-
ing Pakistan's growing entrepreneurial spirit and industrial

Centre Karachi, visited the “19 Build Asia International
Exhibition 2026” on January 22, 2026 at the Expo Centre
Karachi. The exhibition was organized by E-Commerce
Gateway Pakistan (Pvt.) Ltd. The visit aimed to provide
insights into emerging technologies and current industry
trends while offering opportunities to strengthen linkages
between research, innovation, and the construction sector.
c. Mr. Syed Shabib Zaidi, Science Assistant, PASTIC Sub-
Centre Karachi participated as a Jury Member for JUW-
ERITA 2026 (Exhibition of Research, Innovation, Technol-
ogy, and Arts) to evaluate student projects on January 31,
2026. His participation reflected PASTIC's continued
support for promoting innovation, research excellence and
academic engagement.
