Webinar on “Research / Scientific Paper Writing
with LaTeX – Most Widely Used Software for
Research Writing”
The PASTIC National Center (PNC), Islamabad organized
a webinar on “Research / Scientific Paper Writing with
LaTeX – Most Widely Used Software for Research Writing”
on February 06, 2026. The webinar was attended by 76
participants, including researchers, faculty members, and
students from various universities and research organiza-
tions across the country. Dr. Muhammad Usman, Database
Administrator was the resource person of this session.
The objective of the webinar was to provide participants
with an introductory and comprehensive understanding of
LaTeX, a widely used document preparation system for
scientific and academic writing. The webinar covered key
areas of LaTeX, including basic document structure,
preparation of tables, figures, and mathematical equations,
as well as reference and citation management through
practical demonstrations and exercises.

During the two-hours session, participants were introduced
to the fundamentals of literature search and management. It
was demonstrated how Mendeley can streamline their
academic and research work smartly. They were guided on
effective literature searching through the HEC Digital
Library and open-access repositories such as PubMed,
Semantic Scholar etc. Key features included organizing
research papers, generating citations, creating bibliogra-
phies, and integrating Mendeley with Microsoft Word.

Webinar on “Literature Searching and
Management Skills for Researchers”
PASTIC Sub-Centre Faisalabad (PSCF) in collaboration
with the University of Mianwali organized a webinar on
“Literature Searching and Management Skills for Research-
ers” on February 10, 2026. Dr. Maryam Ibrar, Additional
Director (STI), PASTIC, served as the resource person for
the webinar. The webinar received an encouraging
response, with 70 participants from across the country,
including researchers, students, and faculty
members.
PASTIC Sub-Centre Faisalabad (PSCF) organized a one-
day training workshop on “Use of Digital Resources for
Academic Research” at National Textile University
Faisalabad (NTU) on February 11, 2026. The workshop
brought together 55 researchers and faculty members from
NTU. The workshop was conducted by Mr. Omar Farooq,
Chief Librarian, University of Agriculture Faisalabad.

PNC successfully conducted two-days hands-on training
workshop on “Scientific Writing with LaTeX” at its
National Center located at the Quaid-i-Azam University
(QAU) Campus, Islamabad, held from February 11–12,
2026. Dr. Muhammad Usman, Database Administrator was
the resource person of this session. A total of 20 participants
from Quaid-i-Azam University, Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid
Agriculture University, COMSATS University Islamabad,
and NUML attended the hands-on workshop, representing
diverse academic and research backgrounds.
During the two-days workshop, participants were intro-
duced to LaTeX and its fundamental concepts, including
document structure, text formatting, and table creation on
the first day, followed by advanced features on the second
day such as table formatting, image insertion and manage-
ment, page layout settings, mathematical equations,
references and citations, document styles, and the use of
professional templates.

PASTIC's efforts in facilitating and supporting scientists and
researchers.

Webinar on the Role of AI in Shaping the Future of
Education
PASTIC Sub-Centre Lahore (PSCL), in collaboration with
Virtual University of Pakistan, organized a
webinar on the Role of AI in shaping the
Future of Education on February 13, 2026. A
total of 43 students, faculty, staff, and researchers attended
the session both online and on campus.
Mr. Ali Raza Khan, Additional Director, PSCL, introduced
PASTIC S&T information services to scientific community
and discussed the importance of AI in today's era. Mr.
Nadeem Sohail, Library Automation Consultant, TMC
Lahore, served as the resource person and highlighted the
role of Artificial Intelligence in transforming higher
education.
Webinar on "Cybersecurity in the Age of Articial
Intelligence”
A one-day webinar on “Cybersecurity in the Age of
Artificial Intelligence” was organized by PSCL in
collaboration with University of the Punjab, Lahore on
February 23, 2026. The main objective of this webinar was
to highlight the role of AI in transforming cybersecurity.
Mr. Nadeem Sohail, Library Automation Consultant, TMC
Lahore, served as the resource person.
Mr. Ali Raza Khan, Additional Director, PASTIC Lahore,
delivered his keynote speech on PASTIC information
services for researchers while the technical session covered
AI-driven threat detection, cyber-attacks using AI, and
strategies to build resilient AI-based security frameworks.
Participants also discussed ethical and policy consider-
ations in AI-enabled cybersecurity systems.
The webinar provided practical insights into AI and
cybersecurity through an interactive and informative
session, and was attended by 54 participants, including
professionals, students, and researchers.

One-day training workshop on “Intellectual Property
Rights (IPR)”
PASTIC Sub-Centre Peshawar (PSCP), in collaboration
with ORIC, Khyber Medical University (KMU) Peshawar,
organized a one-day training workshop on “Intellectual
Property Rights (IPR)” on February 17, 2026, at the
Alexander Fleming Auditorium at Khyber Medical
University (KMU). Mr. Zahoor Ahmad, Director, Director-
ate of Quality Enhancement, University of Peshawar was
the resource person of this workshop.
The main objective of this training workshop was to
enhance awareness and understanding of Intellectual
Property Rights (IPR) among faculty members and
research scholars, and to equip them with basic knowledge
of patents, trademarks, copyrights, industrial designs,
patent filing procedures, and prior art searching for the
protection and effective management of research and
innovation. The workshop was attended by 60 participants,
including faculty members and research scholars, predomi-
nantly from KMU.
Dr. M. Naveed Iqbal, ORIC (KMU) underscored the signifi-
cance of intellectual property awareness in academic
research and innovation. Dr. Ghazala Ali Khan, Additional
Director, PSCP, provided an overview of the IPO framework
and elaborated on PASTIC's role in facilitating access to
patent information and promoting IP literacy. The webinar
covered the importance of intellectual property protection
and explained the major categories of intellectual property,
including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and industrial
designs, in safeguarding innovative ideas and research
outcomes.
Workshop on “Articial Intelligence Literacy”
A one-day workshop on Artificial Intelligence Literacy was
organized by PASTIC Sub-Centre Quetta (PSCQ) in
collaboration with BUITEMS on February 17, 2026. The
main objective of this workshop was to create awareness
about role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in transforming
research and education. Dr. Saeed Ahmed Magsi, Assistant
Professor, Department of Telecommunication Engineering
BUITEMS was the resource person of this workshop.
Around 60 participants, including researchers, doctors,
engineers, and faculty members attended the workshop.
The Chief Guest, Muhammad Ahsan Achakzai, Registrar
BUITEMS, appreciated the efforts of PSCQ and assured
full cooperation for future programs. At the concluding
session, shields and certificates were distributed among the
organizers, resource persons, and participants.

a. Dr. Ghazala Ali Khan, Additional Director, PSCP
attended the two-day Physical Training Course on “Busi-
ness Management for Small and Medium Enterprises”
organized by the Pakistan Academy for Rural Development
(PARD), Peshawar on February 10–11,2026. The training
focused on enhancing professional competencies in
business management, particularly for small and medium
enterprises, and provided valuable insights into modern
management practices, policy frameworks, and institu-
tional development strategies.
b. Mr. Syed Shabib Zaidi, Science Assistant, PSCK, visited
the 21st My Karachi Exhibition 2026 on February 06, 2026
at Expo Centre Karachi. The exhibition was organized by
the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI).
The visit was to observe emerging business and industrial
trends, interact with exhibitors from various sectors, and
collect relevant information regarding innovative products,
technologies, and services.
c. Ms. Afsheen Tariq, Assistant Director (STI) at PSCK,
attended a webinar on “Pakistan Fisheries and
Aquaculture” on February 12, 2026 via Zoom organized by
the National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA),
Karachi. It emphasized the role of scientific research,
modern aquaculture practices, and effective management of
marine resources in enhancing food security and economic
growth.
d. Ms. Afsheen Tariq, Assistant Director (STI), PSCK,
attended the seminar on “Application of AI in Chemical
Webinar on “Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)”
PASTIC Sub-Centre Karachi (PSCK) organized a webinar
on “Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)” on February 25,
2026 through an online platform. The webinar aimed to
create awareness about intellectual property rights, explain
the basic types of intellectual property, guide participants
on the protection of innovations, and promote research
commercialization. The session was facilitated by Dr.
Samiyah Tasleem, CEO & Founder of Pakistan Education
Health and Technology Innovation Consultant Group.
More than 70 participants from various universities,
research institutions, and organizations attended the
webinar.
Ms. Afsheen Tariq, Assistant Director (STI), PSCK,
introduced PASTIC/PSF services and initiatives. She also
highlighted the importance of Intellectual Property Rights
(IPR) in protecting innovations, encouraging researchers,
and promoting the commercialization of scientific ideas.

PSCK organized a PASTIC S&T Services Awareness Stall
on February 13, 2026 at the Department of Chemical
Engineering, University of Karachi. The stall was designed
to raise awareness about the scientific and technological
information services provided by PASTIC, while encourag-
ing students and faculty to utilize its research support
resources
