Webinars on “Learn Smart Reference Management”

Two significant webinars on 'Learn Smart Reference
Management were organized by PASTIC Sub-Centre
Faisalabad in collaboration with University of Kamalia and
Ghazi University, Dera Ghazi Khan on March 5 and 12,
2026 respectively. Around 272 participants attended the
webinar.

Muhammad Hasnain, Additional Director, PASTIC
Faisalabad introduced PASTIC's services, highlighting its
role in promoting scientific knowledge, research support,
and access to digital resources. Dr. Maryam Ibrar, Addi-
tional Director Publication, PASTIC Islamabad, was the
resource person. She delivered a session on how to search
relevant data and manage it efficiently using the Mendeley
tool and PASTIC resources, making it easy and concise.

Prof. Dr. Ali Ajaz, Director ORIC, University of Kamalia
and Prof. Dr. Sagheer Atta, Director ORIC, Ghazi Univer-
sity emphasized the importance of modern research
practices in diverse scientific disciplines, highlighting the
role of emerging technologies in enhancing efficiency,

“Women in Science & Innovation” via Zoom on March 26,
2026. The session was conducted as part of PASTIC's
ongoing efforts to promote scientific awareness,
innovation, and inclusive participation in the field of

science and technology.The webinar aimed to

encourage and motivate female students and professionals
to pursue careers in STEM fields. The webinar witnessed
active participation, with more than 45 attendees including
students, educators, and professionals from various
institutions.

The session commenced with a welcome address by Ms.
Afsheen Tariq, Assistant Director (STI), PASTIC Sub-
Centre Karachi. She introduced PASTIC and the Pakistan
Science Foundation (PSF), outlining their roles in promot-
ing scientific research, information dissemination, and
capacity building across Pakistan.

The webinar featured Ms. Salima Shahzad Arwani,
Manager Academics, Southern Region, Aga Khan Educa-
tion Service, Pakistan, as the resource person. She empha-
sized the importance of empowering women through
education, skill development, and equal opportunities to
contribute effectively to national development.

PASTIC Sub-Centre Karachi organized a webinar titled
“Research Analysis & Report Writing using AI” on March
31, 2026 via zoom. The webinar attracted enthusiastic
participation from more than 100 attendees representing
universities and academic institutions from across Pakistan.
The session was designed to introduce participants to the
transformative role of Artificial Intelligence in contempo-
rary research practices and to highlight its growing signifi-
cance in enhancing research efficiency and quality.

The session commenced with a welcome address by Ms.
Afsheen Tariq, Assistant Director (STI), PASTIC Sub-
Centre Karachi. She introduced the PASTIC and the
Pakistan Science Foundation, services and emphasized
their key roles in promoting scientific research, facilitating
access to information, and strengthening capacity-building
initiatives nationwide.

The technical session was conducted by Dr. Afsheen Arif,
Assistant Professor at the Karachi Institute of Biotechnol-
ogy & Genetic Engineering, University of Karachi. She
delivered a comprehensive and insightful presentation on
the application of AI-powered tools in research processes.
The session covered key aspects such as data analysis,
literature review, interpretation of findings, and the
development of well-structured research reports. Through
practical demonstrations and real-world examples, partici-
pants were guided on how AI can significantly enhance
accuracy, efficiency, and overall productivity in academic

“Infrastructure Development under CPEC: Progress and
Challenges” on March 03, 2026 via Zoom organized by the
L.E.J. National Science Information Center, ICCBS,
University of Karachi.

b. Dr. Maryam Ibrar, Additional Director (STI) and Ms.
Afsheen Tariq, Assistant Director (STI), PASTIC Sub-
Centre Karachi, attended the online session titled “Short
Talks, Big Impacts – Asia-Pacific Region (Women
Scientists, Powerful Research)” held via Zoom on March
11, 2026. The session provided an international platform
for women scientists from the Asia-Pacific region to present
their research through concise and impactful three-minute
presentations.

c. Dr. Maryam Ibrar, Additional Director (STI) attended a
webinar on “Mastering the Art of Writing for Peer-
Reviewed Publications – Pakistan” organized by Springer
in collaboration with HEC on March 26, 2026

work.The session concluded with an interactive discussion,
during which participants shared their perspectives and
posed thoughtful questions to the resource person. This
exchange added considerable value to the learning experi-
ence and further deepened participants' understanding of
the subject.

INFOGRAPHICS: PASTIC National Scientists Directory

PASTIC has launched the National Scientist Directory, an
online platform designed to build a comprehensive data-
base of scientists and researchers in Pakistan. Scientists can
obtain National Registration Certificates by registering
their professional information, update their profiles on this
platform and promotes their professional visibility,
collaboration, and recognition while supporting national
scientific planning and development. The database is
steadily growing, with 9,318 registered scientists and more
than 543,600 visitors since its launch in April 2025,
reflecting increasing national engagement and wider
outreach. Whereas organizational affiliations reflect strong
participation from national R&D institutions such as
PARC, PAEC, PCSIR, NCP, NARC, PSF, AARI, and the
Higher Education Department.
