“Hybrid webinar on Statistical Package for the
Social Sciences (SPSS)'’
The (PNC), Islamabad, successfully organized a hybrid
webinar on Statistical Package for the Social Sciences
(SPSS) on July 3, 2026. The event was attended by 98
participants representing universities, research organiza-
tions, and academic institutions across Pakistan.
The webinar aimed to build participants' understanding of
SPSS as powerful statistical software widely used in
research and data analysis.
Dr. Muhammad Usman, Database Administrator PASTIC
(Resource person) highlighted the diverse range of statisti-
cal techniques and research tasks that can be performed
using SPSS, enabling participants to gain valuable insights
into selecting appropriate analytical methods for different
research scenarios.

The PNC successfully organized its Training Workshop on
“Research Tools & Techniques: Data Analysis Using SPSS”
from July, 22–23 2026. The two-days training program
brought together 39 participants from leading universities,
research organizations, and public sector institutions across
Pakistan. The participating organizations included Quaid-i-

guished delegation from Wuhan Textile University (WTU),
China, on July 10, 2026 for an interactive and insight-driven
institutional visit.
Prof. Dr. Zhaowei Zhang, Dean, School of Biomedical
Engineering and Health, accompanied by Associate Profes-
sors: Dr. Tang Yun, Dr. Zareen Zuhra, and Dr. Wajid
Hussain, visited PASTIC, the delegation explored PASTIC's
various specialized wings to understand the Centre's cutting-
edge scientific information services, research support
initiatives, and technological framework.

Azam University (QAU), Fatima Jinnah Women University
(FJWU), Foundation University, International Islamic
University Islamabad (IIUI), Islamic International Medical
& Dental College, the University of Peshawar, and the
National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA).
Participants received practical training in data transforma-
tion through recoding and compute functions, missing value
analysis, and other data preparation methods required for
reliable and meaningful statistical analysis. The interactive
lectures and hands-on exercises enabled participants to
develop practical skills for preparing datasets and applying
appropriate analytical techniques in research.
The concluding ceremony was held at the PASTIC National
Centre, where certificates were awarded to participants in
recognition of their successful completion of the training
program.
PASTIC Sub-Centre, Lahore, in collaboration with the
Center for Academic Integrity (CAI) at the University of
Lahore (UOL), organized a webinar on “Intelligent Litera-
ture Reviews: AI Tools, Critical Thinking, and Research
Ethics” on July 28, 2026. Ms. Rimsha Qayyum was the
moderator of the webinar.
During the session, Prof. Dr. Zaheer Ahmad (Resource
Person) provided a comprehensive overview of literature
reviews, explaining their role in establishing the scholarly
foundation of research, identifying knowledge gaps, and
developing well-informed research questions.

Professional Training on AI, Digital Libraries,
and Advanced Research Tools
PASTIC Sub Center, Peshawar, in collaboration with
Islamia College Peshawar and the Pakistan Librarians
Society (PLS), successfully organized a three-days Profes-
sional Training Workshop on “AI, Digital Libraries, and
Advanced Research Tools'' from July 6–8, 2026, at Fairy-
land Hotel, Malakandi, Kaghan Valley. A total of 50
participants representing all provinces of Pakistan and
Gilgit-Baltistan, attended the training program and bene-
fited from the expert-led sessions and practical learning
activities.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by Chief Guest Prof.
Dr. Ahmad-ur-Rahman Saljoqi Ahmadi, Vice Chancellor,
Islamia College Peshawar. In his keynote address, he
highlighted the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence
in higher education, research, and library services. He
appreciated the collaborative efforts of all three stake-
holders for organizing this timely and impactful initiative.
Throughout the three-days workshop, participants attended
expert-led sessions on Prompt Engineering, AI-Powered
Virtual Libraries, Advanced AI Research Tools,
Bibliometric Analysis, BIBFRAME, Smart PLS, and the
Future of Libraries. The workshop concluded with an
interactive feedback session followed by the distribution of
certificates and commemorative shields among the
participants and resource person.

PASTIC Sub-Centre Karachi organized an webinar on "The
Experimental Design Track in STEM" on July 22, 2026 via
Zoom. The online session engaged over 50 students,
researchers, faculty members, scientists, and professionals
from universities and research institutions across Pakistan.
Ms. Afsheen Tariq, Assistant Director (STI), delivered
PASTIC services promotional presentation. The keynote
presentation was delivered by Dr. Hira Zahid, Chairperson,
Faculty of Engineering Science, Technology & Manage-
ment, Ziauddin University. During her comprehensive
presentation, she discussed the fundamental principles of
experimental design, research planning, hypothesis
development, selection of variables and controls, sampling
strategies, and best practices for conducting reliable and
reproducible STEM research.
Workshop on Advanced Prompt Engineering and
NotebookLM for Research and Analysis
A workshop on Advanced Prompt Engineering and
NotebookLM for Research and Analysis was held on July
23, 2026 at Library, Ayub Agricultural Research Institute
(AARI), Faisalabad, organized by PASTIC, PSF, and
Library, AARI. Over 150 agricultural scientists from
various divisions and institutes of AARI actively partici-
pated in the workshop.
Opening remarks were delivered by the Director General,
(AARI). He appreciated the joint initiative of organizing a
timely and practical capacity-building session for the
scientific community. Mr. Muhammad Hasnain, Additional
Director, PASTIC Faisalabad, delivered the keynote
address. The technical session was delivered by the resource
person, Mr. Nadeem Sohail (Certified Prompt Engineer and
Library Automation Expert, TMC - Telemark Consulting,
Lahore).

Orientation Session on PASTIC Databases
PASTIC–PSF Sub-Center, Peshawar successfully con-
ducted a hybrid Orientation Session on PASTIC databases
at Qurtuba University of Science & Information Technol-
ogy, Peshawar, on July 3, 2026. The session was conducted
by Dr. Ghazala Ali Khan, Additional Director,
PASTIC–PSF Sub center, Peshawar, while Dr. Maryum
Ibrar, Additional Director, PASTIC Islamabad, joined the
session online as a Resource Person. The event was attended
by 30 participants including Pro Vice Chancel-

The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Khalil Hafeez,
Vice Chancellor, BUITEMS, as Chief Guest, with Mr.
Muhammad Suleman Kasi as Guest of Honor. Around 70
faculty members, researchers, and MPhil and PhD scholars
participated in the workshop. The technical session was
conducted by Mr. Muhammad Zaheer, Assistant Professor,
who focused on research methodology, proposal writing,
and effective research practices.
Prof. Dr. Khalil Hafeez, highly appreciated the efforts of
PASTIC Regional Office Quetta for organizing the
workshop despite the challenges in Balochistan. He
reaffirmed BUITEMS commitment to continuing
collaboration with PASTIC to promote research, innova-
tion, and academic capacity-building. At the closing
ceremony, certificates and appreciation shields were
distributed to participants and organizers.

National features, access mechanisms, and research benefits
of the Journals Archive (NJA) and Abstracting & Indexing

Online Orientation Session on PASTIC – A Hub
for Scientic and TechnologicaL Information”
An Online Orientation Session on “PASTIC – A Hub for
Scientific and Technological Information” was organized
for the research scholars of University of Jhang on July 09,
2026. The session commenced with an introductory briefing
on PASTIC's services by Mr. Muhammad Hasnain, Addi-
tional Director (STI), PASTIC. A total of 102 faculty
members, researchers, and students participated in orienta-
tion session. Mr. Saif Ullah Azeem, Principal System
Analyst, PASTIC, (Resource Person), emphasized
PASTIC's contribution to scientific knowledge dissemina-
tion, research facilitation, and access to digital resources.

"Power User in Locating Technical Resources: An In-depth
Dive with IEEE Xplore Digital Library" on July 14, 2026.
The webinar was organized by IEEE Asia.
d. Ms. Afsheen Tariq, Assistant Director (STI), PASTIC
Sub-Centre Karachi (PSCK), attended the Consultative
Workshop on Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS) under the
Nagoya Protocol – Sindh Region on July 27, 2026 at the
Pearl Inn Hotel Karachi. The workshop was jointly orga-
nized by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmen-
tal Coordination and WWF-Pakistan.
e. Syed Muzaffar Ali Shah, President of the Pakistan Library
Association (PLA) and Anwar Hussain Secretary PLA,
visited PASTIC Sub-Centre Karachi on July 14, 2026. Ms.
Afsheen Tariq, Assistant Director (STI), discussed on
exploring opportunities for future collaboration in organiz-
ing training workshops, seminars, webinars, and other
professional development activities for librarians, research-
ers, students, and information professionals.

a. Dr. Syed Aftab Hussain Shah, Additional Director (STI),

PASTIC, participated as a member to the 2 virtual meeting
of the WIPO Inventor Assistance Program (IAP) Steering
Committee via Zoom on Jul 14, 2026 organized by The
Intellectual Property Organization of Pakistan (IPO-
Pakistan). The session reviewed progress on IAP implemen-
tation and discussed strategies to enhance inventor support,
outreach, and coordination among partner institutions.
b. Ms. Afsheen Tariq, Assistant Director (STI), PASTIC
Sub-Centre Karachi, attended a Symposium on "Harnessing
Cross-Country Lessons to Strengthen Evidence-Informed
Policymaking in Pakistan" on July 8, 2026 at The Aga Khan
University (AKU), Karachi. The symposium was organized
by the Department of Community Health Sciences, Aga
Khan University, Karachi.
The session concluded with an interactive Q&A, during
which Mr. Saif Ullah Azeem addressed various queries
raised by the participants. The participants appreciated
PASTIC's role in providing indigenous S&T information to
researchers and R&D workers.
