Two-days Training Workshop on “Learn How to

Write Research Papers/Thesis Using LaTeX”

The Pakistan Scientific and Technological Information
Center (PASTIC) successfully concluded a two-days
training workshop on “Learn How to Write Research
Papers/Thesis Using LaTeX”, on December 16–17,
2025, at the PASTIC, QAU Campus, Islamabad.

The training was designed to equip researchers,
students, and professionals with essential skills in
scientific writing and technical documentation using
LaTeX, a powerful open-source typesetting system
widely used in academia and research worldwide.
Participants were briefed on PASTIC's specialized
research-oriented services. Dr. Muhammad Usman,
Database Administrator was the resource person of the
workshop.

The workshop brought together more than 25 research-
ers and students representing leading academic and
research institutions, including Quaid-i-Azam Univer-
sity (QAU), International Islamic University (IIU),
Fatima Jinnah Women University, Pakistan Atomic
Energy Commission (PAEC), and other organizations.

During the workshop participants were provided
hands-on training in LaTeX, covering fundamentals of
academic writing on the first day one and advanced
features for preparing publication-ready research
documents on the next day. At the end of workshop,
certificates were awarded to the participants and the
resource person. This initiative demonstrates

the country's research ecosystem by
empowering researchers.

Workshop on “Research Methodology and

Research Paper Writing”

PASTIC Quetta organized a one day training work-
shop on “Research Methodology and Research paper
writing” in collaboration with Post Graduate Medical
Institute(PGMI), Sandeman Civil Hospital Quetta, on
December 2, 2025.

The workshop was primarily designed for Ph.D.
students. A total of 60 participants along with 10
faculty members attended the workshop. Nayab Khan,
Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology, Univer-
sity of Balochistan served as the resource person. The
workshop aimed to enhance the understanding of
scientific research principles and develop practical
skills among students, researchers, and medical
professionals for writing high-quality research papers.

Prof. Noor Ahmed Khosa, Director (PGMI) Chief
Guest emphasized the significance of research in
modern scientific development and highlighted the
need for research capacity building in Balochistan. Dr.
Abdul Hafeez Sial, Vice Principal of Dental College
Quetta and Guest of Honor, appreciated the educa-
tional and research services of PASTIC and its role in
promoting scientific culture in the province.

At the closing ceremony shields were presented to the
distinguished guests while certificates were awarded
to senior doctors, researchers and participants. The
dedicated efforts of chief organizer Dr. Mir Abdul
Qadir, Additional Director (PGMI) and Mr. Abdul
Khalique Sial, Assistant Director (STI), PASTIC Sub
Centre Quetta were highly acknowledged.

PASTIC Sub-Centre Karachi organized a webinar titled
“Science, Innovation & Entrepreneurship for the UN
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)” on December 19,
2025 via the Zoom platform.

The webinar attracted over 90 researchers and faculty
members from universities and research & development
organizations across Pakistan, demonstrating strong
national interest in promoting SDGs-oriented science,
innovation, and entrepreneurship.

The session featured Dr. Samiyah Tasleem as the Resource
Person, who delivered an insightful presentation highlight-
ing the role of innovation-driven entrepreneurship and
applied research in achieving the UN SDGs. Her talk
covered key thematic areas including health technologies,
climate and environmental solutions, agri-tech innovations,
food security, and innovation leadership, with a strong
emphasis on practical impact, policy engagement, and
societal relevance.

Ms. Afsheen Tariq, Assistant Director (STI), PASTIC Sub-
Centre Karachi, provided an overview of the webinar and
highlighted PASTIC's mandate, objectives, and library and
information services for the research community. She also
encouraged participants to register on the National Scientist
Directory (NSD), a national platform designed to enhance
researcher visibility and foster collaboration across
institutions.

One-Day Webinar on

“Science, Innovation & Entrepreneurship for

One-Day Webinar on "Harnessing the Power of Data Using

Orange Tool and Python for Data Analytics”

PASTIC Sub-Centre Karachi organized a webinar on
"Harnessing the Power of Data Using Orange Tool and
Python for Data Analytics" via Zoom on December 23,
2025, drawing over 50 participants from universities and
organizations across Pakistan.Hafiz Syed Muhammad Rafi,
Senior Lecturer, Department of Computer Science, Iqra
University, conducted the session, covering practical
applications of the Orange Data Mining Tool and Python,
with emphasis on machine learning fundamentals and real-
world applications. The webinar was moderated by Ms.
Afsheen Tariq, Assistant Director, PASTIC Sub-Centre
Karachi, who highlighted PASTIC's role in research
support and capacity-building. The session successfully
enhanced participants' awareness and skills in modern data
analytics tools.

question-and-answer session, during which participants
discussed challenges, emerging opportunities, and effective
pathways for translating research outcomes into meaning-
ful societal impact. Participants appreciated PASTIC's
initiative and continued efforts in promoting research-
driven innovation and entrepreneurship across Pakistan.

Hasnain (Additional Director, PASTIC), Prof. Dr. Bilal
(Director QEC, CUVAS), and Muhammad Ashraf (Addi-
tional Director ORIC, KFUEIT) highlighted PASTIC's
services and the role of emerging technologies in modern
research. Dr. Maryam Ibrar (Additional Director, PASTIC)
led the two-hour sessions, covering reference management
basics, Mendeley's key features — including organizing
papers, generating citations, creating bibliographies, and
MS Word integration — supported by a live demonstration.

Recent Approaches in Plant Science

PASTIC collaborated with the Department of Botany,
University of Education, Lahore to support the conference
on "Recent Approaches in Plant Sciences" held on Novem-
ber 12, 2025, by publishing the e-Abstract Book of pro-
ceedings.

Event/ Webinar /Meeting Attended:

a. A one-day training session on “Academic and Scientific
Writing”, held on December 01, 2025, by the Department
of Chemistry, Women University Mardan. Dr. Ghazala Ali
Khan Additional Director (STI) participated as resource
person. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Razia Sultana,
appreciated the efforts of Dr. Naila Zubair (HoD, Chemis-
try) and Dr. Ghazala Ali Khan Additional Director,
PASTIC-PSF for organizing this valuable academic
activity. She emphasized the importance of such initiatives
in strengthening academic and research skills and
expressed hope for continued training opportunities in the
future.

b. Ms. Afsheen Tariq, Assistant Director, PASTIC Sub-
Centre Karachi, attended a webinar on "Halal Standards &
Quality Infrastructure" organized by AlHuda Centre of
Islamic Banking & Economics via Zoom on December 23,
2025. Mr. İhsan Övüt, Secretary General, SMIIC, Turkey,
shared insights on international Halal standardization,
accreditation, and quality infrastructure across OIC
member states.

c. Muhammad Hasnain, Additional Director (STI)
PASTIC, met with Prof. Dr. Rashid Masood, Rector
National Textile University, and senior faculty members on

The e-Abstract Book serves as an official record of the
conference, facilitating research dissemination among
scholars and professionals while enhancing the institution's
academic visibility. It also functions as a promotional
medium for PASTIC as part of its broader awareness
campaign.

December 22–23 at PNCA, featuring exhibits in robotics,
